First morning in Salzburg and we were looking for our first breakfast kind of like home. We walked past Habakuk and caught a glimpse of the Strudel in the window, and all thoughts of bacon and eggs were out the window! We walked in and were very warmly greeted, and sat right across from the glass cases that showcased their wares. Given two menus in German, we figured it out pretty quick. They had a NY breakfast and one below that outlined eggs, ham, cheese and bread, bingo, two orders of those please and water. Our utensils and napkins were brought on a white plate along with salt and pepper, as well as a silver plate holding our waters, which was a great touch. The interior is very classy, old school elegance, and the servers were the same, nicely dressed very polite and helpful. Our food arrived quickly, hot and abundant, not exactly bacon and eggs, but very good. We were not asked how we wanted our eggs cooked,, so what you see is what you get. My eggs were a little overcooked for my taste, but the lovely K got some yolk run. There was a very good amount of food for the price and it all worked well together. We had the chance to chat with our server who spoke very good English, as it seems most of the people we have come across in our two weeks on the Continent do. We had to go back the next afternoon to try the Strudel of course. We were recognized right away, and the place was quite a bit busier so we walked up the stairs and were sat in the main dining area. The Strudel was quite delicious, and once again abundant and swimming in warm custard, which I wasn't sure of, but man it was good. Also added a Stiegel beer which is brewed right here in Salzburg for over 500 years. Cafe Habakuk is a bit of a throwback to simpler times when good service and great food, at fair prices was the norm rather than the exception and we couldn't be happier. Our next trip back to Salzburg we will most certainly be back! read more

My friend and I were wandering around the area trying to choose a cafe. We stumbled upon this one, which had such enticing apple strudel and cookies on their display windows. We decided to walk inside on a mission to try said apple strudel and were greeted by kind staff. We took a seat and had THE loveliest waiter. I got the apple strudel with custard, but you get the option of either whipped cream, custard, or icecream I believe. My friend got the ham & cheese sandwich with a side salad. Long story short, the apple strudel was DIVINE. The entire dessert just feels homey and hits all the right spots. The sandwich was really good too. The bread was quite buttery and crispy. The salad had thousand island dressing. So so good! read more

I consider myself to be pretty well travelled and never have I been treated so poorly as this establishment. I was deliberately ignored by the waiting staff so after trying to pay for 20 mins I stood up and said I'd go to the til, to which the waitress nodded. I went to the til and was spoken to like absolute dirt by the owner, "you pay the server, you understand!" in a raised tone and when I tried to explain a flick of the hand and "yeah yeah" followed by a sarcastic "have a lovely day" as I left. I really don't say this lightly but I think they dislike English speakers. He was truly vile in his manner. Small man syndrome maybe. Food also average so nothing for him to be so confident about. read more

I visited this little cafe in the early afternoon and got a little dessert. The gentleman behind the counter, the owner, speaks 7 languages and all of them well. He speaks English and German, of course, and is very sweet. We got chocolate cake and a milkshake like dessert that was yummy, with chocolate and coffee. Unfortunately, I did not make note of what it was called, but there's a picture below. I highly recommend their ice cream, it's some of the best we had on this street while we were here, and pairs very well with the giant pretzels that are ALL over this area. read more

Stopped here in the mornings as it was right beside our hotel. The prices are great and a simple breakfast for two with coffee didn't cost more than €10-. We also tried the Salzburger Nockerl here for the first time and would recommend ordering this specialty. read more

The very best Mozart chocolates I've ever had! Buy these for your loved ones and the red foil mass-marketed ones for your co-workers (because these will run you about 1.6 euros a piece). The gentleman who waited on us was polite and spoke unaccented american English as well as German. The pastries such as apfelstrudel and linzer tart cookies also looked fantastic. This place is sort of a tourist trap. Although they serve American style breakfasts- everything is ala carte and is very expensive. 2 ham and egg omelettes and two coffees about 23 euros. They even charge 1.2 euro for butter. Do yourself a favor and across street and pick up some DIY breakfast at local grocery. read more

Quaint little cafe offering really good coffee, desserts, chocolates, truffles, hard candies as well as savory ham/egg/cheese omelets. Staff is friendly and everything is served in a rather formal manner such as forks brought to the table on a separate tray with a napkin, one's coffee on a separate tray with a small creamer, spoon, napkin and a small glass of water. Had an awful experience here with my girlfriend. Waitress was extremely rude and just overall awful service. After having some mediocre food we waited 15 minutes for bill after asking waitress for it. We then walked up to the front counter to ask for help (as our waitress was quite difficult), the people at the front began yelling at us that this was not their place. We only asked for help, never had the chance to mention how terrible our experience was. read more

We went into this cafe tonight about one hour before closing time to get two galati (ice cream) cones. It was raining outside; there was only one table being used, and all the other tables were unoccupied. After ordering and paying for our cones, we sat down at one of the empty tables to eat our cones. Immediately, the female worker told us we could not stay in the cafe to eat our cones, so we left and stood outside in the rain to eat our gelato. While we were standing there, another family went into the cafe and ordered some gelato. They asked if they could sit at an inside table to eat their gelato, and the male worker told them that would be fine. We will never go back to this cafe after being discriminated against this way. Two identical situations that happened within minutes where we had to eat our cones outside while the other family sat inside, out of the rain. (We were not rude, we were just an average family wanting to enjoy a treat.) In addition to the unfriendly service, proper safe food handling was not observed. read more
