I was skeptical of Caffè Italia 34 because it is located on Warmoesstraat Street, which is a very touristy and popular street in central Amsterdam. I decided to give it a try because the ratings and reviews were good, and it was close to my hotel.
The staff is really friendly. I arrived for my reservation on time, and they had a nice table ready and waiting for me.
It was unseasonably chilly outside so the minestrone soup sounded perfect. Theirs comes in a cute little 'pot'. Their version was based on a tomato broth. It was piping hot and the toast points that came with it were excellent for dipping.
With the soup I ordered the bruschetta which came in four large pieces. I like bold flavors of garlic, especially on something like this, this one was a little short but still good. A little less salt, a little more garlic, and clean up the puddle in the bottom of the dish and it would be at that next level.
The seafood pasta was a bit disappointing. The shrimp were super small and there was some mystery fish like stuff mixed in with the pasta and de-shelled mussels. It was not bad, but it was not great. It was an adequate meal.
At 37 Euro, 42 Euro with a tip it was a decent meal, especially given the touristy area where the restaurant is located.
For the price and the great service as well as the descent food, I am going to give them a 4 star rating. read more
