A lovely neighborhood cafe with a nice setting, friendly staff, and tasty beer. I only met a friend for a drink there, so I can't fully comment on the menu, but my experience was a positive one. They have some nice niche beers available (not just Ottakringer from the tap) including a refreshing Lammsbrau. They have a bunch of wooden tables and chairs in front of the cafe, letting you enjoy the fresh air and the ambiance of the best part of Josefstadt, with its cobblestone street, rustic street lamps, and the magnificent Piaristenkirche at the end of the block. Mismatched, renewed wooden furniture, handmade tables, vintage carafes, walls covered with posters of festivals, exhibitions and films, lovely lamps decorated with different vintage fabrics, old shipdeck floor... I was amazed by this bohemian, shabby chic look! You pass into the next room through two marble counters, where you can either take a look at how your "galette´´ is made or how your espresso is prepared; shortly front cooking. At the back of the crêperie, there is a huge corner with shelves decorated with organic tea-varieties, soaps, cups, bags or many different literature, art books (even children´s books) which you can buy or just read there if you have forgotten yours and they are also published by Verlag der Provinz. You can even order a table, literally!! :D It sounds weird but true! Because of the reason that there were so many people willing to buy the handmade tables in the cafe, they decided to sell them with cooperation of Theater an der Josefstadt. Another interesting thing, which you could do here would be registering yourself for a scything course. Also in summer the crêperie turns into a great sidewalk cafe where you can sit outside and have conversation with your homie for hours or where you can have some privacy moment with your favourite book, or you can just relax with some great house wine or enjoy the dinner, the choice is yours! :D Their speciality is Galette; a norman-breton speciality which belongs to north west region of France; Brittany and Normandy. I guess you surely are familiar with it because of its relatives like crepes or pancakes. But this one is different! The thing which makes Galette unique is that it is always made of buck wheat and an egg topping and here would definitely be the place in Vienna, if you would ever like to taste some galettes! They are all organic; it means they are all made with buck wheat, spelt and soy milk which are 100% organic agricultural products. Also if you prefer to eat some desert, then you can choose from many Crepes or Waffles with maple syrup, chocolate and fruits, bio marmalade or even with chestnut creme. Although the dishes are prepared with organic products, time to time it can happen that your galette seem to be a bit dry. There is also a wide variety of tea; from self-created herbal tea blend to non-mixed herbal/ fruit / green or black tea, they got almost everything.:) If you are a coffee junkie, you can find grain coffee which is a better version of a usual one. Also organic wine is offered, even cidre. Be prepared to wait for awhile, till your order gets served. This lovely cafe is near my place so I sometimes come here for a brunch or breakfast. It has a really cosy interior design and the waitresses are friendly! I love their Galettes, they have many many kinds of it but even better they have waffles too!! Freshly made soft sweet waffles! I give 4 stars because if you come here on a sunday especially during summer and spring when you can sit outside, they are quite busy and when you order something rather than taking the brunch it takes really long time to come. This is a very friendly and comfy café restaurant, where you will feel instantly welcome and can enjoy tasty and bio food & drinks! They have a lot of cold and hot drinks, several coffee, hot chocolate, but also a long list of original and attractive TEAS! You will need ages to choose^^ but don't worry, they are all very, very good. If you want to eat there, on their meny you'll find a lot of galettes (salty version of crêpes) and salads, crêpes and waffels, but also several breakfasts and a wonderful brunch. Yammi. Cafe der Provinz has been one of those places I'd walk by in the 8th district of Vienna and dream spending a lovely meal with my husband. Something about the small cafe being situated on a quiet street with wooden tables and soft plants attracted me to it. One evening I looked Cafe der Provinz up online and saw they offered an organic buffet brunch. Knowing me, I made a reservation and my dream came true: I got to have brunch with my husband on Saturday morning! When you make a reservation, you are allowed 2 hours to relax and enjoy your meal there. This is one of the positive points I like about cafes and restaurants in Vienna: you are typically allowed to spend a lot of time when eating out, because it is encouraged to take it easy and relish in the food, drinks and experiences. A reservation for this brunch is highly suggested because Cafe der Provinz gets easily booked -- it is a very popular place and you want to have your table guaranteed! Inside the cafe the ambiance is cozy, dimly lit, with walls in warm colors of reds and browns, wooden tables and chairs, with vintage artwork displayed on the walls. It is a small cafe with a bookcase in the very back and overall I felt it was inviting and a perfect place to sit for hours with friends, or to simply come by yourself to read a book or study. Cafe der Provinz's brunch buffet are available on weekends and holidays and feature organic food and drinks: For 13.8o you are basically allowed unlimited access to their breakfast bar, which includes homemade crepes, waffles, deli meats, fine cheeses, local spelt bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, cereal and boiled eggs. You also get a glass of juice (I believe mine was berry flavored) and any other drinks like coffee or tea is extra. I ordered a Melange cause I wanted to enjoy some Viennese coffee that morning (and the coffee was great). What I REALLY liked was their waffles: freshly made and sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon, I loved putting on the chocolate nougat creme they offered as a side. And I will admit, I ate more than one serving of it -- cause they were pretty damn good and it's been YEARS since I had a waffle! And now I'm inspired to buy a waffle maker... I am looking forward to having brunch at Cafe der Provinz again, especially with my friends, and also eating lunch there some day. This is a 100% organic/bio restaurant/cafe in an absolutely lovely neighborhood. Several friends of mine and I met up here for their all-you-can-eat brunch this past Sunday, and we all thought it was delicious and a terrific value. The quality of the food was top notch, and the ambiance was also very relaxed and comfortable. Note: It might feel more crowded in the fall-winter since outdoor seating won't be possible. Simply the best galettes we ever had! They were so good that we decided to go back the next day; unfortunately, during the weekend mornings they don't serve the savory ones but have brunch instead; we went with the brunch and it was really good and copious: different types of cheese, ham, sugar and cinnamon galettes, waffles etc. Also, the melange there is one of the best from Vienna and they have a nice assortment of herbal teas (I ordered one made from 10 herbs). The service is very friendly. The decoration simple and cute (french country side style). In summer one can seat outside with a nice view to Maria Treu church. The products are mostly bio and good quality. What found not so ok was the quantity served. Regardinfd the price of the galletes should be served with a little salad and the filling should be a bit more generous in quantity. read more

We visited on a quiet Friday afternoon around 1. The decor was nice, simple and minimalist. We ordered two crepes with Nutella and banana after waiting for around 20 minutes. When the food arrived 25 minutes later, we only received one crepe with two sets of silverware. Even worse, the crepe was cardboard-esque and seemed as if it had just been heated up in the microwave. After finishing our meal, we waited around for about 30 minutes before the waiter removed the plate and gave us our check. We were still hungry after our meal so we went to a Burger King. read more

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but we were disappointed with food, drink and service. Granted, we are not health nuts but we did know it was a bio restaurant and were eager to try crepes of wholesome ingredients. Still, we found our drinks (the homemade lemonade and a latte) utterly undrinkable due to their dreadfulness tastes. To add insult to injury there is a .50 charge to warm the lemonade. The crepes were extremely dry; the tiny chips of walnuts tasteless; and the maple syrup did not arrive with the crepes but halfway through and only after we sought out the waitress. Wait staff changed mid-meal which only served to add to our dissatisfaction: we had to repeat our order and the new waiter did not properly compute. Additionally, we consider the prices high and were surprised to see so many students and other young people. Clearly, some diners consider it "cool" to eat there but we failed to find the charm. read more
