We stopped by here as Lonely Planet says its the best place to get, in essence, an apple strudel. It is a very timeless, and fancier cafe that a lot of the more traditional ones, and offers lots of frills and decor. We were sat in a booth and offered a menu. If you want the cakes they don't have a menu for that, I just pointed which one I wanted to the waiter. We ordered a cheesecake and the apple strudel, as well as some coffees. The apple strudel was lovely, the pastry very light and the apples very tasty, not too sweet or heavy. It wasn't served with cream, as we expected, but is essentially sort of like apple pie, but with pastry.
The cheesecake was amazing! Not like American cheesecake, it was very light and fluffy, like it had been whipped. It wasn't too sweet and had a nice crunch to crust as well as some scattered on top. The cheesecake was definitely our preference, The coffee was OK, not the best in Vienna, but the cake definitely is worth a trip. The service wasn't friendly, but efficient, and I guess is the norm in Vienna, so don't be surprised. There is also a video playing which shows them making the cakes, which made me want to go to a cake tour or to watch them being made in the kitchen! read more
