I was in Montreal earlier this year for work and visited this small, family-style cafe/restaurant that is super-friendly and makes amazing salads. You heard that right...I'm complimenting their salads. They were fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend Solaris. It was walking distance from a colleague's office. The owners came out to greet us and made us feel welcome. The salad of choice was the Goose Nest. Delicious! However, you may also want to try the Dan the Man special. Yes it's another salad. My friends, and I stopped in here on our first day in Montreal, and we were so pleased with it. We each ordered a pizza pie, and we're blown away! Being from New Jersey, we were not sure we would find good pizza in this area, but we sure did. I ordered the pizza with prosciutto and arugula, and it was delicious. There is a wealth of subpar pizza available in CDN and NDG. This is unfortunately, another example thereof. The pictures online made it look so good. In this case, they were misleading. There are some very nice reviews about the atmosphere in his pub. People talk about solid pub food, friendly waitstaff, sports on the TV's, and a general welcoming and comforting vibe. This may all be true. Different places can hold many different meanings to different people at various stages of life. From my perspective, I've never walked through the door of the establishment. I ordered a meat lover's pizza through Uber eats last night. It came really quickly. It wasn't very good. The cheese and the toppings detached completely from the crust almost immediately. The sauce underneath tasted watery and tart. The crust was thin, but the outside edges had absolutely no taste. I can see how you might gratefully gobble this pizza down if you are watching a game in a bar and already 5 or 6 beers in. At home, stone cold sober, in the harsh light of day, this pizza does not pass muster. Sometimes, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I live around the corner from Solaris, and not gonna lie I've been passing it by wondering who would go to a random roadside bar on Decarie? The place is busy most nights and I didn't get it. Seems like such an ordinary place... What's the deal? It kept coming up on my Yelp since it's so close by, and I read that their food is pretty good. Today I decided on a whim that I'd pop in and try their burger. Believe me when I say their cheeseburger, which is a double stack, is definitely the best in the area. There's no doubt about it. The patties are juicy and flavourful, it's served with crunchy lettuce, tomatoes and pickles. The bun is a toasted sesame seed bun and the spicy mayo gives it a nice kick! I had a house salad with it, and it's actually made with a nice balsamic vinaigrette and not some Kraft plebbery. At a sports bar! I was so impressed. Their prices are reasonable, and they have several beers on tap including Molson and Heineken, so that was fairly typical. Been curious about this place for a while and finally decided to check it out. Was looking for a place with both food and a bar and Solaris fit the bill. It's a medium sized bar with a kitchen that serves sandwiches, pizza, salads, and appetizers. The multiple TVs playing both NBA and NHL playoff games was a bonus. Oh yeah did I mention the jukebox and the video slot machines? We ordered a pizza (mozzarella tomatoes basil bocconcini) and the fried calamari with a couple drinks, and to our surprise, everything was solid. Points for the thin crust as well as the hot sauce they gave us on the side. But I think the best part was the service. Super sweet, making sure we felt at home and satisfied. Awesome food. Pizza is amazing. Burgers are delicious. Side salads are great. Paninis so good. Whatever you try from the menu will be good. And they will give you their secret hot sauce, SO GOOD. The staff is super friendly. Whenever I want to see a specific game, they will put it for us. And you can have food even at 2am. Really great place. I'm so glad I bumped into it a few months ago. What a Gem, never thought a bar could make pizza that good, the bacon pizza and phylli cheese are a must. Panini's are also their thing and if u love meat the Lee is stacked with steak and pepperoni, cheese and no veggies, it's a heavy hitter. Prices are between 8$ and 14$ for lunch, but lookout for the specials, offering good value. Forgot to mention that it's a sports bar so yeah awesome Habs specials and great for events. read more
