Artistry by Shantael (Selah Spa Therapy) Shantael was very personable with great knowledge and quality of service, and she does various artistry treatments from skin care to full-body massage! Instead of the more standard spa-business setting, she does private practice from home (which I wasn't used to at first--never been to a home spa/business before--but then began to feel more relaxed and ready to sit down to share a meal soon after), so expect to arrive at an adorable, eco-friendly home environment (perhaps even a smile from a family member briefly passing by during intake).  She's not open for business every day, but I love that she has some evening and Saturday schedules available. Though comparable with most salon pricing, the cost can still be on the high end for someone with tight budget, but she was knowledgeable in her area of expertise and skillful in her methods.  I had a facial care. The cleanse/extraction felt thorough (with no red mark aftereffect), finishing with (great plant-based products) sensational moisturizing, and the facial/neck/shoulder massage was very soothing. I already have a special esthetician I visit, whose pricing is a little more affordable for me, but I'd also like to revisit Shantael for her great style and different methods (I went to try Shantael because I had been given a discount/gift card).  In addition to having knowledgeable and skillful treatment, I had lovely (plant-based care) conversations with her. I am so glad I went here! I travel for my job so I rely on Yelp to find the best waxing, massage, day spas to maintain my wellness in different cities. When I called to make a same day appointment, Shantel was extremely accommodating! The only thing was that I had to call once I got to the spa and walk to the back on the entrance where their is parking. When my uber arrived I realized it was because the spa is in her home! When I entered, the place was so inviting and very clean, well organized. I felt literally at home! I had a full face wax which was filled with great casual conversation and music and little to no pain! I hadn't even realized she was done until she gave me the mirror! My brows were naturally and delicately sculpted and not a hair in sight. As far as the massage, good God that massage was just what my body and SOUL needed! As an avid massage goer, her pressure was perfect! She worked through knots that I felt I have had for eons and soothed my body like she was blessing it! It had been a while since I visited a salon for waxing. I didn't know where to start in a new location not knowing what to look for. So I started my own research for THE BEST aesthetician in my area. I came upon her reviews online and looked like everyone who had her has this fantastic experience on their reviews. So I booked her at the salon she used to work. I guess I was a little nervous waiting. Though a moment she welcomed me at the waiting area, she made me so comfortable with her gracious smile and nice tone of her voice. She escorted me to the back room and instructed me how to get ready. When the moment arrived on the spa table, she started to distract me from thinking about the pain I would be going through and believe me or not, it was not painful after all. It was amazingly quick and painless. Throughout the process, she was so professional. And she will give you some advice on how to maintain after the waxing. Months later after having her as my routine maintenance aesthetician to go back to, I suggested my co-worker to try waxing in her own area. She lives in MA, she made her first waxing appointment at one of those European style salon in the upscale neighbourhood. I was so excited for her. Turned out she had THE WORST experience you will ever hear from your friends. I was horrified to hear what she went through with her aesthetician. I had never heard such negative experience by reading reviews on waxing when I was researching. So I was curious how much Shantael encounters on her daily basis that are difficult clients to deal with when it comes to waxing process. Am sure we all are different skin types and hair types. Sensitivities are different, pain tolerance levels are different in each one of us. Her answers really confirmed that how fortunate I am to find her as my aesthetician. Waxing is a science. It involves in the volume of your hair, skin types, type of wax, temperature and thickness of wax and so on. With all the involvements concerned, Shantael knows what she is doing. She left the salon in my neighbourhood earlier, but I begged her to keep me informed wherever she goes because I want her to be my aesthetician FOREVER..... So I have never waxed anything before in my life, eyebrows, legs, nothing. So clearly I thought a GREAT idea for my first time waxing would be a Brazilian. My friends said I was crazy. I found Shantael by a simple google search, and by reading reviews I was impressed. I will also note that I do like supporting small business, especially those owned by women, so I generally gravitate towards places like these. Girl power. As soon as I walked in I immediately felt like I was in a comfortable place. Her home is lovely and decorated adorably. It smelled nice and I felt at ease, especially for being so nervous about my first time waxing. The service itself was amazing. I don't have much to compare it to, but for probably the most intimate experience ever, she was professional, fun, and educational. I learned about skin care and the body, and we talked to the whole time which put me at ease while she was in VERY private areas. It went by much faster than I thought, and she was encouraging and sweet when I got tense. She also used a few different kinds of waxes for different areas, and that told me she really knew the female body and what would work best for me. If you are looking for a personal yet professional waxing service I can't stress enough how fantastic Shantael was. Some of the bigger businesses I go to for nails, hair, etc. I lose that personal touch and I feel like I am just a number, but here I felt well taken care of and I could be myself. Shantael puts you completely at ease, which is saying a lot for a girl who'd been growing her leg hair out for years! Thought I'd make a change and I felt really listened to and taken care of, which is hard to find when it comes to waxing. I had an appointment with Shantael today for some facial waxing. I arrived late as I couldn't find the location. Note that it is not a storefront, her space is on the 2nd floor of a 3-story home. I was originally a little put off by that but...I am so glad I got over it! As a new client, I had to fill out some pretty basic paperwork, then Shantael and I discussed what I was looking for. My response...perfect brows! And no random chin hairs! After we talked a bit about my skin type, and she took a good look at me, she recommended a brow tint, which I decided to go with. After spending about 45 minutes attending to removing lip / chin / brow hair, the end result was perfection! I love how my brows look! One thing I absolutely hate is when I have to pluck a few random hairs when I get home from a waxing appointment. Shantael is such a perfectionist that there's not one random hair to pluck!
