I run in because I'm going to make a Cajun spaghetti so I need ground meat, sausage, and decided to just do a jar sauce instead of making it from scratch. Was definitely having a conversation with one of the workers who was stocking the shelves on the spaghetti aisle about making it from scratch or the jar. Well, I decided to go jar and bring everything up to the counter and had the pleasure of encountering Edra. I put my things on the counter, keeping in mind I have never been into the store before and chose to go here over Piggly Wiggly, Edra begins checking me out and looks at me and says everyone is coming in here for spaghetti today. I say oh we all must be on the same wavelength. Then she proceeds to say, "y'all are all lazy because y'all don't make your sauce from scratch." It took every being of my cell to not react to this very out of line statement. I don't care who you are, how old you are, what position you hold calling customers that are choosing to come to your store over other grocery stores that I had to pass up to get here is flat out rude. I just looked at her smiled and said I hope that you have a great day. She did not bother to hand me the receipt or the bags I had to walk around the counter, grab the bags and the receipt and I walked out. Needless to say, I will not be shopping there anymore and will happily choose Piggly Wiggly any day. The parking lot is a little tight and the entrance is really elevated keeping it safe from any flooding being the river is very close - once inside we found it really interesting and filled with lots of local delicacies, we walked over to the meat case where we assumed the plate lunches would be served and was greeted by a friendly employee. Unfortunately we missed the bbq being it was late afternoon and they were doing their clean up and we were told there were a few plates boxed up in a warming case off to the side, they were clearly marked but taped closed and I really didn't want to open them or buying them without seeing what was inside since we had no experience with this local grocer. I noticed there were several small paper bags labeled cracklins some chicken and one marked "rich-man cracklins" so I grabbed one of those thinking it would be a good snack for the ride back. Unfortunately they were not something we were accustomed too, they were very meaty and chewing verses the fried pork fat with a crispy rind we were hoping for and now we know this was a different version so we dismissed them after both trying one each. Although this visit didn't work out like we had hoped the store is very nostalgic and has a cool factor about it and the staff was very friendly and so it was definitely an interesting stop and I'd return when in the area to explore a few more of their offerings...

Having said that, of the 15 or so places in Lafayette where you can purchase fresh boudin and cracklings, I would rate this place as 3rd or 4th in my book which means there are still dam good. Lol. This is a small grocery store so getting in, out and back in the road is very fast. In fact, I can whip in here and get burgers, cracklings, a case of beer and be back in my car in 4 minutes. That kind of fast. If you're passing by don't let the old time store front fool you, there's some great stuff in here! Enjoy!
