We both bought Swedish candy and I was able to sit in the original owners rocking chair. Mike B. bought a lot of delicious sweets. At least in the store you can see if the stuff you are buying is expired.

It was my first trip to downtown Plano which is a nice quaint strip of bars, restaurants, and shops that reminded me of any of the small one/two stop light towns around my home of NC, even though you're really surrounded by metro Dallas highways and city. The atmosphere, the food, the service, was perfection. I'll do my best to describe, but if I was creating a restaurant, I'd tell you to go here, and that is what I want. The restaurant itself is very nice, certainly upscale enough for a super nice date night, but also casual enough at lunch time for a business casual outfit. The area itself is relatively small and intimate, I'm going to guess 10 or less tables, and a spot for a few people at a small bar. Right beside the bar is the grill where you can see, hear, and smell the food being cooked! The owner was our waiter, and just like the rest, service was plenty formal yet also laid back. He did everything how you'd expect in a fine dining restaurant, but also was comfortable in a baseball cap and laid back fine with having a conversation. He was happy to tell us about the restaurant itself, the interior which he built out himself, and was enthusiastic about what he was serving and told us everything about the meat and sides. It was great seeing someone so proud and excited to tell his costumers about every aspect of it. He alone would make me want to be a regular visitor. But then there is the food! Perfection! All four of us ordered the Wagyu NY Strip, so he just told us he would serve it on a board with plenty of sides to fill us up. We didn't even have to tell him how we wanted the steak cooked, he said everything was cooked to 135 and it came out absolutely perfectly! Quality tasty meat, true wood flavor, it was what I normally have to cook myself at home to get! The sides were great as well, charred broccoli (which I'm a sucker for, marbles potatoes, fries, all wonderful! The menu is not huge, but I think that's perfect. Do what you do well and you don't need a multi page menu full of random dishes. BAR-Ranch knows what they are and they excel at it! It's not cheap, but personally I'd rather have one meal of exceptional quality over multiple cheaper meals that leave me feeling "meh that was fine". Personally I'll be back and can't wait for another opportunity to try it!

Just wanted to send out a huge thank you to Cakes Amore for building my daughter the perfect Spongebob/Krabby Patty cake for her birthday! I gave the owner lots of room to play with this idea, only telling her that my daughter was turning two and likes Spongebob, Caillou, and hamburgers. I was expecting maybe a sheet cake with lots of color and personalization. I told the business to go crazy, and boy, did they! I was shocked to see a great big cake in the shape of a hamburger, completely 3D with realistic coloring ("veggies" and all). On top was a hand-crafted spongebob figurine, and also an edible version of Caillou and the number '2'. Great care was put into every detail, and I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality. I found the price to be reasonable, and I would have no problem giving Cakes Amore my business again, if I need a cake in the future. Everyone was so impressed with it! read more

Four bucks per cupcake isn't outrageous, when its worth it. Ours, sadly, tasted like they were thawing out, still partially frozen. The frosting was sweet but didn't deliver a strong delicious flavor, no zip. We normally start saying "mmmmm" when something is divine but this was more like "oh no!" For $4 a pop, you'd expect a little magic and forks. Instead they disappeared into the trash, poof, $8.00 gone! We would have given our feedback to anyone who would listen, but honestly no one cared enough to check on us. I would have asked for a refund ...and we regret the 10 minutes of our time to stop by.

I believe a partial refund or another resolution tied to this specific order would have been more appropriate. Unfortunately, based on both the cake and how the concern was handled, I would be hesitant to order again.

I was fortunate enough to have Aamina at Brilliant Cakes make my cake for 2 events - my Mayun and…read moremy wedding reception. Both times the cakes blew me (and our guests) away! For the mayun, we really wanted a cake that was shaped like a dhol. We contacted her just about a week before the event and she was able to work us in. The cake was so artistically done, and came out exactly how we wanted. So many people asked us where the cake was from - it really was quite the centerpiece. Not only was it beautiful, but it tasted wonderful. The texture was perfect! For my wedding cake, we had been considering some other vendors for cakes, but hadn't really been satisfied with the taste of their samples. My mom suggested we meet with Aamina. She was willing to meet with us just weeks before the wedding (thank goodness!!!) and had samples available for us. I really wanted something different, and she suggested mango/strawberry mousse cake. Because I lived out of town, I wouldn't be able to try the cake myself before the wedding. But the way she talked about it, I trusted her completely. I could tell that she wouldn't make a cake for a client until it met her standards for flavor, texture, appearance, etc. I appreciated that and would trust her to make anything, even unseen and un-tasted! She also makes sure she uses the highest quality ingredients. For example, she wouldn't use flowers from florists due to pesticides sprayed on the flowers. This isn't something I thought of, nor something any cake vendor I talked to mentioned. But after she said that, I totally agreed and appreciated her diligence to maintaining the highest quality and safety. We ended up having a dummy cake for practical purposes, and so she made our top tier cake rose pistachio flavored just for us, so we could try this unique flavor out. Aamina was also very easy to communicate with. Responsive, straightforward, and delivered the cake with no problem. I was really impressed with how it turned out - even better than I could have imagined. I had a white cake with white butterflies on it, and it fit with the décor perfectly. The butterflies stood out despite the white on white. I think she added something to give them a slight shine. In fact, I went back and looked at the inspiration picture we sent her, when writing this review and realized our cake looked even better (the butterflies were prettier)! Her prices are also reasonable. I got to have some cake the day after our wedding - and it was soo delicious. I'm not usually a cake person, but I had 3 slices of this cake! I still think about it sometimes... :)

Before I left to take it, they were getting all of their friends to give me different credit card numbers to try to pay the whole balance. I POLITELY told them I would not deliver it until it was paid in full (it was a four tier cake). If I remember correctly, it was at the Heard Museum event room - and they couldn't fit it in the fridge. I mentioned to the photographer on my way out that she needed to get payment in full before doing the job (due to my experience prior to delivering the cake - I told her about the experience). If that's what they are referring to, then I guess I was rude. The groom was in shorts and a t-shirt and flip flops. How would I KNOW that was the groom? The whole thing was a bit crazy...in fact, when they left a negative review on my facebook page, I responded with screen shots of all the texts they sent asking if I could accept four different credit cards from different people, and it illustrated how they couldn't pay for the cake. If I could put a photo of the cake on here, I would - it was beautiful. But I think they were embarrassed that they didn't have the funds to pay for it. Just go to my facebook page - search for Hands On Design Cakes. There are literally THOUSANDS of cake photos. I doubt I'd have that kind of client base if what they say is true - same with the Sarah person. I don't even know who that is. Anyone can leave a review on a public space like this and make up whatever they want. Just keep that in mind.
