My daughter's wedding cake did not arrive at venue until one hour prior to start and Cakes by Ron forgot the wedding topper. We and venue staff were in a panic. Delivery person was very rude when cake finally arrived. Cakes by Ron offered us nothing but a canned apology. Will never use them again. Truly the best! I got one of their pre made cakes in their fridge for a last minute birthday last year. It was strawberry and so delicious! When my cousin got engaged-- I reached out to get a custom cake. It was more than my budget allowed for at that time so I went and got a custom cake elsewhere. It was terrible and I promised myself that I'd never do that again. A custom cake from here is WORTH the money. I just had my mom's 65th birthday party and they made the most fabulous Lily Pulitzer inspired cake. When ordering the cake-- they were so easy to work with. I went into the store and explained the design I had in my head. I also had a photo of the invitation as inspiration. I was absolutely blown away when I picked it up. It was all buttercream icing with strawberry cake. The cake was moist and people at the party couldn't stop talking about the showstopper and were asked for seconds. We had 22 people at the party and got the bigger size cake (10 inch I think?). It was massive and I think we could've gone with the smaller size. One word: Incredible!! I called a bit last minute requesting an Airstream and camping themed cake for my husbands birthday. I sent over a picture of the airstream and a couple of ideas with mountains on the side of the cake. Lived in the area for six years. Drive by Cakes by Ron on the daily. Finally dipped in today and picked up a sampling of cupcakes. Why did we wait so long?!?! Now I'm going to have to eat twice as many to make up for lost time. Do yourself a favor, don't drive by, stop in and buy some. Friendly service, cake looked great and fit the specifications. I'm from New Jersey, so I can't offer an informed price comparison relative to their competition here, but relative to the tri-state area of NJ their prices are fantastic. The clincher? Not to sound like an out of state snob who's being a jerk and doing so based on limited experience here, but so far in a wee week in the Sarasota and Orlando areas, the food just doesn't compare to the NY/NJ area - horrible pizza, mediocre sushi, decent but not amazing steak, even the fast food seems somehow not as good. But the taste of this cake? It's not only on par, but I'd put it on the level of among my favorites in the NY/NJ area. Great looking great tasting cake, friendly service, and again with the disclaimer that we're not very familiar with local prices, I can at least say that it was at a price that we found very gentle for that kind of cake. "So why 4 instead of 5 stars?", you say? I'm glad you asked. I have two reservations, one bigger than the other. The bigger one, no pun intended, is that they had to hillbilly the box with paper because they didn't have a box big enough to close the top of it for the size of the cake. Now... it was a layer cake, but not huge. They certainly had much bigger cakes on display right there in their store. From my perspective, that was unprofessional to not be equipped with boxes to properly fit the size of the cakes they sell that one person can easily carry and transport. Quite frankly if I didn't have someone with me to hold the cake, I would've been significantly more uncomfortable driving that cake back even at a cautious speed without it being properly boxed. Second, they had me sign some sort of agreement/approval before taking the cake and leaving the store. I've purchased cakes before, granted once again not here in Florida, so maybe things are done differently here and that is normal. For me it was not, and I found it very odd. I have to say that while thankfully I got the cake back safely, and as I mentioned it was a beautiful and delicious cake, had I not prepaid for the cake and also simply didn't have the time to explore other options, I honestly might have walked out. You can't box it properly and you're making me sign something like that? No, I pay for the cake, you give it to me properly closed in a box that fits, I leave, we're all happy. So the ordering of the cake and the quality of the cake itself earned this place 4 stars despite, would've easily been 5 stars without the box issues and odd signing of some sort of approval/agreement, but I highly recommend to the business that they make sure that they stock proper sized boxes any cake they sell in a size that one person can easily carry, and maybe reconsider making people sign off on leaving with the cake that they already paid for anyway. read more

Update: Because of all of the great reviews I bought some cupcakes for my birthday this year and they tasted really stale and pasty. Definitely like they had been sitting in the case for atleast a week. I noticed they only had like 5 flavors offered in the case so I was enthusiastic that they would be worth the money I spent on them. They tasted just like the storefront smelled. I don't know why I keep hoping for them to be as moist and delicious as they used to be. Maybe if we didn't have anything to compare the quality to-from many years ago-we might think they were good but even my 7 year old had to put his in the microwave to make his moist enough to enjoy even a little. This is a super cute place and I came across them when I was planning my wedding too and I can see why they are popular. I loved that they also had cupcakes and cookies plus cake slices ready to go. I got a chocolate cake for my husband and he liked that the cake was rich and moist. My friend two some cookies to go as well and I bought a strawberry cookie to go which was super moist. The cake, we got a lemon cake with raspberry filling. We had it after our dinner at a restaurant and it was soooooooooooooooooo tasty. The flavors were amazing and the cake was delicious. I was excited that my birthday cake was going to be from here. My husband was told by staff over the phone that they had a chocolate cake there and didn't have time to make a cake for my birthday. So he took the cake that they claimed was chocolate but it was far from chocolate. It was a dried out whitish cake with some kind of bits of brown something in the cake that did not taste like chocolate and had hard oily thick icing. The icing In between the layers had to be 1/2 inch thick and on top was a minimum of 1-2 inches thick. My husband also bought a few cupcakes that were in the store but they also were not fresh and were very dry. I guess if you order a custom cake, maybe it would be good, but beware of buying a cake already made. read more

I have bought 2 cakes from Ron. One was a $300.00 wedding cake. It looked great but the cake was horrible. Could not eat it. They gave us another cake. Same thing. I then tried to order 12 cupcakes and wanted to pick them up in 10 days. I was told that they were too busy and could not make 12 CUPCAKES in 10 days.
