Someone recently purchased a cake for me from this cute little bakery! The baker left me a cute little note inside the box wishing me a happy birthday, so sweet! The cake it self was incredibly delicious, and typically o do not like birthday cake. But this cake had a great balance of frosting and cake itself, the frosting was sweet but not to sweet and the cake was very moist. They even did a great job with the theme of the cake which was a Spongebob cake, yes I'm 25 but I love Spongebob! Kudos to Cakes De Fleur for taking a relatively last minute (2 days in advance) cake order over the phone. They put together a chocolate birthday cake with buttercream frosting for a colleague. At no extra charge, they even decorated it with a mountain motif, which suited the birthday boy so well. Unfortunately my voice over the phone must not have been too clear because they misspelled the recipient's name. Jeffrey was spelled "Jessrey". Very odd, since I wouldn't consider Jessrey a common name. Apologies to all the Jessrey's out there in the world! I can picture the cake decorator's puzzled expression when looking at the order. Last minute I called to place an order for a dozen cupcakes and they were able to accommodate my last minute request. I really appreciate the professionalism and decorum this establishment has because they did not have to go above and beyond to put together a dozen cupcakes for my business meeting in 20 minutes. At first, I spoke to one of the employees Chris who informed me that if I wanted different flavored cupcakes it would take a couple of hours but if I was okay with just 1 flavor they would be able to put something together. I was fine with this since it was my fault for poor planning and trying to get something last minute. I was pleasantly surprised when I picked up my order to find that Chris had time to whip up a additional flavors so not all cupcakes were the basic vanilla. Chris added coconut, lemon, chocolate and red velvet which was extremely kind of him to beat the clock because he knew I needed whatever he was able to put together in an hour. We had an amazing experience 7 years ago customizing an orange and chocolate wedding cake here. The baker was so funny and patient as my Mother, fiancé and I decided on styles. Caveat: I did not even sample their cakes so this review does not cover the actual food but rather the customer service experience. I got engaged last November and in going down the enormous to-do list one of the most exciting prospects to me and my FH was the cake tasting and consultation - we both have quite the sweet tooth and it beats looking at fabric swatches! I'm not native to Utah (thus our 18 month engagement) so I googled cake places around and reached out to a few to schedule a consultation. All wrote back so I thought I was on a roll! I made two appointments without issue, however when it came to trying to get Cakes de Fleur pinned down for a time I experienced the first "vendor drama" of my entire experience (and I've been at it for 7 months now). I sent an email and got a friendly enough note back saying that most consultations occur on Tuesdays and to call to schedule an appointment. I called and found out that they only do all consultations on Tuesday afternoons - which does not work for my fiance. The lady I spoke to asked us if we were free on a Saturday and I was thrilled - until she said that they only had afternoon availability on Saturdays. I told her that mornings were really a must for us and she said she would call the consultant and get back to me. When she did call me back it was to inform me that they could hold the date for us but that she doesn't need to meet with us until next year, so if we still want to meet with her next year that would be fine. I'm sorry - SHE doesn't need to meet with ME until next year? What about what I need? For starters, a vendor who actually wants to be helpful and work with me on creating a great cake for my wedding day. I was completely appalled. Did they honestly think that I would agree to work with a vendor who showed so little interest or regard for me as a customer? I'm guessing they didn't really think that. Perhaps they felt as though my business wasn't important enough which is quite a mistake. As I mentioned, we both have large sweet tooths (teeth?) and are planning on our cake being one of the highlights of our reception. Luckily, the other two vendors we reached out to were more than accommodating and I know that we will end up with the perfect cake! Just beware that if you are looking for someone who will actually show any interest in you, this is not the place. read more
