This is based on MY experience; therefore, the following is MY OWN personal thoughts and opinion: I wish I had been told beforehand to READ YELP REVIEWS and BEWARE of previous experiences. In retrospect (from reading the other Yelp reviews) we came out better than a few others. If you are seeking a company that puts customer satisfaction and possibly safety first, I ADVISE YOU TO READ ALL YELP REVIEWS BEFORE booking chartered trips and familiarize yourself with all terms - this applies to any and all business you are considering. We expected some rocking in the water on the trip out; however, we never anticipated there would be what felt like real safety issues, bouncing so hard that it threw some of us off the seats and caused those standing to grab anything within reach to hang on. It slowed the boat down to four knots and caused the crew to inform us that at that speed, it would take us another two hours to reach our fishing spot and this was after already traveling for an hour. We were asked if we wanted to continue or turn around and possibly reschedule for another time. No promises were made by the crew, but the rescheduling idea was introduced by them. WE chose to turn around. Upon docking & preparing to exit the boat, we were given an envelope containing $320. We'd paid $1,960.00. After several voicemails left on the return trip in, my call was returned. After a discussion of events, a company representative talked with the crew and decided to refund an additional $580.00, bringing refund total to $900.00. He stated he had expenses - boat, fuel, crew (? - sign on boat stated crew works for tips so we gave them $200.00 for the hour - hour and half we were on the boat). We boarded the boat "assuming" businesses that provide services which are affected by weather conditions monitor all conditions and would have and use the knowledge and expertise to make a determination on whether a trip out was feasible or not, and if the safety, wellbeing of the crew and passengers and the satisfaction of customers was placed first, the engine would never be started; therefore, there would be no expenses. Again, this was/is MY/OUR assumption. After the fact, family members searched Yelp reviews and discovered it appears this was not the first and only such incident. Additional Note: We were also "gifted" two vouchers for a half day charter. Our group of 25 might have to draw straws to see who gets to add those to their portion of the refund. I'd asked for 16 so our local family could use that and the out of state family could receive the majority of their initial payment. Well, Two is better than ZERO! read more

Jun 23rd 2026 the captain Robert Taylor wouldn't refund us our money for the 6hr fishing trip we paid for after they canceled the trip 5 minutes after leaving the dock. Totally scammed us. There policy said if they canceled you would be refunded, Captain Taylor said quote courts won't do nothing over $200....this is wrong please don't support this business. read more

So I called up the phone number on calabash fishing fleets website and booked a half day trip for my 11 year old daughter and myself for a Saturday afternoon. The woman who took our reservation charged my card and confirmed the trip. Saturday came and it was sunny with low wind and about 80 degrees, we got to the dock about an hour early and when we went inside to check in we were told that the woman who took the reservation made a mistake and there was no boat going out. We had driven an hour and a half there and now had to drive an hour and a half home. The ladies who were working the seafood shack that is associated with the charter company felt really bad for us but said there was no boat. The woman who took our reservation and payment called and apologized for her mistake and refunded us the money 3 days later and told us that she would talk to the owner and mail us vouchers to go on them another day! That was a month ago, I've called and texted with no response which is super upsetting that they are not taking accountability for the mistake and money spent on gas food and time! I personally would not use this company based on the experience! The sad thing is they had an opportunity to make it rite and didn't take that opportunity! BAD BUSINESS!!! read more

My friend spent hours finding the right charter for our group of three families. She eventually booked the Miss Calabash for the 13 of us, a boat that accommodates up to 15, which was perfect. We traveled over an hour specifically for this experience. The night before our trip, the owner left a voicemail (which we didn't receive until the morning of the reservation) informing us we'd been moved to a different boat; one that holds around 30 people. At that point, it was too late to cancel or make other plans. This was not the experience we signed up for. The new boat was half the price of the one we originally booked, and we could've easily found a similar trip much closer to our rental. The owner never offered a refund or price adjustment, we had to request it ourselves. Frankly, he should have refunded the full amount. We would never have knowingly booked a 30-person fishing trip; we'd have rather spent that time relaxing on the beach. Buyer beware: the owner has no issue pulling a classic bait-and-switch (pun intended). To top it off, the fishing was terrible. The only saving grace was Jonah, who genuinely tried to make the best of a bad situation and give us a decent experience. Two thumbs down. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere. read more

What's the point in lying? We reserved the Cyclone for a 6 hour fishing trip and confirmed the reservation the night before. When we arrived at the dock, we were told they had switched our boat from the Cyclone to Miss Calabash because they had a party of 19 to put aboard a boat, and they used the Cyclone for them. They said the Cyclone had already left the dock to go fish. We were now assigned to go out on Miss Calabash. But Miss Calabash was broken and they were trying to fix her. So we waited. After about 45 min of waiting, we watched the Cyclone motor past with about 8 people aboard. And after about 90 min, they decided they couldn't fix Miss Calabash. The owner did give us lunch on the house for the trouble. This trip was for our 12 year old nephew, who can come from out of country to deep sea fish on his birthday. He said his day was ruined more by the lying of the owner rather than the actual boat switching and inability to repair. The owner was able to secure a PartyTime Charter for us for the next day. They were very professional and we caught a lot of fish. Would recommend PartyTime charters to anyone looking for a recommendation. But I wouldn't trust the Calabash Fishing Fleet, unfortunately. read more

Visiting from Indiana and did the dolphin cruise today and it was a fun experience. The water was a little choppy going out but I feel like they navigated it well and let us know the choppier areas. We were informed of where the life jackets were and other safety precautions as well as some interesting information about dolphins and the area. I'd say we saw at least 20 dolphins along the ride and stopped a few times to get a good view and pictures. Boarding the boat was a little difficult but they helped us on and off. Might not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The guys were friendly and checked in on us frequently. read more

Was a wonderful trip and very nice people! We had originally scheduled a sunset fishing trip but got a call the night before saying the weather is better in the morning and more productive and I was so glad we did to say the least. After a short trip to the sea We stopped at some good fishing spots the boat wasn't packed at all. we caught some cool fish, not many were size limit but we got to keep two that were big enough! They even cut the fish for us, the captain Jordan and his first mate were very helpful and friendly. They were always walking around to help unhook fish for people, help re bait the hooks, or even just to check and make sure your feeling alright. They made sure offer snacks and drinks for purchase and for the price we payed I'd say it was an amazing experience and will definitely return again!! read more

More people caught the Atlantic Flu (sea sick) than keepers on this trip. Only five keepers caught on the entire boat and these were trash fish (pin fish, pig fish). We did catch sea bass less than 13 inches. They knew we weren't going to catch any keepers before we left the dock--they left the gaffe on shore. Only frozen squid was used as bait. I've been on several deep sea fishing tours and this was bar far the least productive. Sometimes it's not a good fishing day but they did nothing to try and catch anything better. The line was cheap and the rigs kept tangling. Honestly, if you want to catch small trash fish, save your money and fish from the pier. read more

We had a wonderful at sea burial on the navigator today. The crew was kind. Serina was so helpful in getting our reservation set up after we had to postpone the burial due to covid. We took the dolphin adventure aboard the navigator ad their website states "Once at sea the Navigator will meet up with a working shrimp boat. (The Miss Serina shrimp boat is a part of our own Calabash fishing fleet) Dolphin will be abundant as they eagerly await the raising of the nets to see what the shrimpers will discard from the net. Once the nets have been emptied samples of what were caught in the net are handed over to the Navigators First Mate and from the bow pulpit he will explain and share each of the marvels of a shrimp nets bounty to our Myrtle Beach dolphin tour passengers. This is a favorite for all our child passengers." We Did NOT meet up with their hrimp boat or any shrimp boat for that matter. We were basically on a boat ride for 2 hours. On the way back a lady asked if we were going to meet up with the shrimp boat & see the dolphins and the mate said "we have to ride to find them and there aren't any shrimp boats out so how do we expect to meet up with a shrimp boat when none are out because they aren't catching." People were sea sick which I understand is a part of going out in the ocean but it's because we just rode parallel to the shore for 2 hours and didn't see one thing. The people sitting one the side of the boat were blasted with waves the whole time that they had to move inside. On the way back the people on the other side were blasted with waves. There was no announcement about their being drinks or snacks. No announcements about shrimp boats not going out. Nothing. This was not a dolphin cruise and was false advertisement. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! We booked our Dolphin cruise for 4:15 pm and they switched the time on us a few hours before because the water was rough later in the day. My husband specifically asked if this was appropriate for young children, and given that we had a 1 and 5 year old with us, we needed to know if this was safe for them. The woman replied that it was and children had a blast. There were life jackets on board that we could access. To say we were misled is a gross understatement. We were never given jackets nor did they show us where we could get them and before we knew it, we were underway. I could not find anyone to speak to about this so I held on tight to my one year old. As soon as we hit the ocean the swells began pushing the boat up and down. Quickly they escalated to 8 to 10 foot swells and the boat was being knocked front to back and side to side. We clumsily made our way inside the boat where we sat on the skinniest seats to protect our children from the sea spray and intensity of the waves. This did us no good and both my children got seasick. One would think the guys on the boat would clean up throw up immediately to get rid of the smell....well that was wrong. After 20 minutes, our amazing Bill demanded the throw up be cleaned. So thankful for him speaking up as I was barely holding on. As I looked around I did not see a single person with a smile on their face nor anyone trying to look for dolphins. At least 5 people were throwing up, one little girl was sobbing uncontrollably in her moms arms begging for it to be over and one woman looked at all of us and said "I think this is the end for us all." No one was having fun. The captain also chose to keep us out there in those dangerous waters probably because he did not want to get in trouble for taking us back so soon. We finally reached the dock and people scrambled to get off. When we returned home from our beach trip, I tried repeatedly to get in touch with Bob the manager. I was told he would call me back within the hour or that he was on the boat but would get back to me when he made it to the office or that they had to check to see if he had tried to call me but I did not pick up. I finally got ahold of him a week and a half later. I began telling Bob that I could not change my families experience as we had already completed our tour but my hope was to give some feedback so that future families would not have the terrifying, horrific, fearsome experience that my family had. He did not give me much of a chance to go into what happened as within 8 minutes of our conversation, he interrupted me with an excuse that something pressing was going on at the dock and he needed to attend to it. He promised to call me back to which I told him I would not get off the phone because it had taken so long to get ahold of him in the 1st place. He never asked for my name, he never asked for my number so when he hung up on me as I was talking...I knew he would not be giving a call back. How would he know who or what number to call? Of course I tried to ring them back but it went into voicemail. I believe they will or did block my number as they do not want to own up to what happened on this cruise. Nothing about it was fun, nothing about it was enjoyable, everything about it from start to finish was terrifying and the worst experience I have ever had in my life. We paid a lot for us all to take this "cruise" that was anything but. Not a single person saw a dolphin and we were never offered a free trip like it says on their website after we landed. BEWARE of this company. I do not know why they have any 5 star reviews, possibly friends writing them, but if you have children, this is NOT the excursion for you. Take our experience and learn. Please stay away from Calabash Fishing Fleet. So deeply disappointed in the way we were treated during and after the cruise. read more

Terrible experience. I took 10 kids and grandkids out. No dolphins, no shrimp boats, no communication. I think the Captain was talking but we couldn't hear him. Miss information about meeting up with a shrimp boat!! It was a two hour boat ride where everyone got seasick! We (foolishly) took the 1/2 day fishing excursion also and it was just as bad. After the dolphin fiasco we would have cancelled if the time frame of cancellation hadn't passed!!! They ran out of water to buy and it was so hot and we were all so thirsty!! They were rude , told us to leave because we asked to speak to a manager , have it all on video. The email read windy conditions...no wind ! I have a two part review for this company. I booked half day for me and my wife to fish a bit after labor day. The fishing trip was outstanding! Both the captain and first mate were very accommodating (Brandon and Jason I think). We set sail from the inlet and cruised about an hour out to the fishing spot. It was chilly and a tiny bit windy. When we slowed down towards the fishing spot the staff made sure everyone had a pole and fresh bait buckets were placed throughout the boat. We got a lot of personal attention on how to cast, where to fish (depth) and the best way to put on our bait. There were a few people that preferred not to touch the bait and the crew was right there to keep their hooks baited. They were there whenever anyone got a fish. Some people chose to take their fish off and others waited for the staff to assist. I know thay untangled several line messes because no one boat was quite the fisherman they thought they were. We spend the next several hours moving from spot to spot, spending 20 minutes or so at each location, depending on how the fish were biting. I have been on several of these types of fishing trips and I would say that this crew was the most friendly and helpful. I caught about 12 fish that day. One lizard fish and the rest were black bass. I was only able to keep one of the fish because of the size regulation. Several people caught keepers, and I think everyone on the boat caught at least something. The second part of my review really focuses on the other review I see posted here. l always check with Yelp when I go on an adventure like this to see what kind of experience other people have had. Online I noticed this fleet had several positive reviews and a few 1 star reviews. Investigating further, I saw some of the negative reviews had nothing to do with this company or they way they presented themselves. Two of the 1 star reviews were upset that they didn't see any dolphins on the dolphin cruise. Another was upset they didn't catch the fish they had hoped to. A forth was upset that the boat had to turn back early because of nasty weather. What a joke! And very unfair to this company to post a review like that. Dolphin and fish are wild creatures. How anyone on earth would think this charter company would have any control on how visible they are in the ocean is beyond me. Perhaps Sea World would be a better adventure if you are looking for a "money back guarantee" to see wildlife. And do the person who was upset that the ship had to turn back early, I am glad you are not in charge of the welfare of all the other passengers. I am pretty sure the first concern of the crew is the safety of the passengers and the vessel. I also think they follow national weather and coast guard warnings and advisories. If you are upset the ship had to turn around a few hours early, I am deeply sorry for your loss. But you should be thanking the crew for making a safe decision on your behalf. I can't wait to get back down to Calabash and fish with this fleet again. read more

Was excited to go on a boat ride while on girl's trip. My mother has very bad knees and the way they dock the boat and then ask you to step up and then sidestep was not possible for her. After realizing this was not going to work, I went back to the ticket booth and asked for a refund. I was made to feel that this was a major inconvenience. The lady called the owner and left a voice mail. I waited the entire trip to hear back from the owner and did not get a voice mail until a week after we had returned home. I was very disappointed. We found another company who was thrilled to have us on board and accommodated our needs without question. Everyone was shocked that I didn't hear back same day at the other company. Deckhands on the Atlantic Star were complete jerks. That's not the word I wanted to use but Yelp would take the review down. In the morning we were ordered off the boat because we were told we couldn't board yet. But there was no sign, no indication that we couldn't board. There was a guy already sitting at the stern, but he wasn't ordered off... and he was there before 6:15, when we showed up. The deckhands were rude up until it came time to walk around with their tip jar. Then it was handshakes and thank yous. I've never been on a Gulf Stream fishing trip where so much time was wasted on wrecks with no bites. Our first stop of the day, the captain put us right on top of the fish, every stop after that was nothing. Another stop everyone was yanking up sharks but for some reason we stayed on that spot. If I wanted to catch sharks I'd go to the pier. This was our 3rd fishing trip out of Calabash and definitely the worst and least productive. One more thing. The ship left late. Like around 7:14 but you can believe they returned on time. read more

Worst fishing trip ever!!. My friend and I went on the full day dep sea fishing. ( gulf stream ) The captain failed to tell us he had an anchor problem. We went to one spot. Pretty much all small no keeper type fish were caught. He never pulled the anchor back in but trailed it behind us as he circled the same spot all day. I understand that sometimes you just don't catch fish, but they were biting that day. He just would not move us out the area where there were nothing but small fish biting. He never tried to go to a totally different are. (probably because he had trouble with getting anchor in. ) Several people complained to the mates, ( who were great by the way ) but nothing was ever done. At the end of the day we realized what was wrong as they had to ask some of the fishermen to help with pulling in the anchor. ( guess the winch was broken.) We never got an apology or any offer of a discount for this awful trip. ( even though I and others suggested it to mates and even called the office after the trip.. The captain used the speaker system a lot that day both during loading and while were were fishing, and was extremely ( in my opinion ) rude and obnoxious in his comments. read more

I really enjoyed our 1/2 day fishing trip with Calabash Fishing Fleet yesterday. We did the morning excursion, 8:30-12:30. You will spend about an hour getting out to the ocean and then another hour getting back into the channel, but that's just something that's going to happen with any charter. I was very impressed that once everyone arrived, about a half hour early, the captain got us underway immediately instead of waiting around till 830. Fishing was great! I caught 2, my father in law 4, and my brother in law 7. Mostly Tom Tate fish and Sea Bass. Unfortunately, my other brother in law/the avid fisherman in the group came up empty. Other groups on the boat did well and some got nothing; that's just how it goes. But I thought the deckhands were very helpful in finding the fish, helping people bait their hooks, untangle lines and unhook the fish. They even teach people a bit about the fish of the South Atlantic. Anyway, I had such a good experience I'm going back to take my wife on their Dolphin Tour today! Oh, and the family had an excellent fish fry last night! read more
