This is my new go to when friends & family visit.. The crew and captain are great he really tries to find the dolphins for you to see. There's no guarantee but both times I've gone he's found them. Let me start by saying I've been on the Hurricane Fleet at least 7-8 times over the past two years. We always take friends and family when they come to town because, even though dolphin sightings are never guaranteed, the ride itself has usually been worth the $31. That being said, I hesitate to post this because I truly do love supporting local businesses. But with tourist season starting, I think it's important to share an honest experience. The first few times we went out with this company, it was amazing. We followed the shrimp boats and not only saw tons of dolphins, but also got a close-up look at the shrimp boats pulling in shrimp and other sea creatures. They would even bring a few things onboard for the kids (and adults) to see before tossing them back. It made the experience feel really unique and memorable. However, ever since the shrimp boat has been out of commission (probably the last year and a half), we honestly haven't seen dolphins the last 3-4 trips. I completely understand there are never guarantees with wildlife, but it has been a little disappointing. It's still a nice boat ride for the cost -- I would just suggest not getting your kids too excited about dolphins and making sure they understand sightings are never guaranteed. Yesterday, we went on the sunset cruise, and unfortunately it was one of the worst experiences we've had. I understand the policy is that the cruise runs rain or shine, but the ocean conditions were rough enough that I truly don't think they should have taken people out. There were young children onboard, people getting sick, and several passengers who were visibly scared as we went through large swells offshore. As someone who has been on this boat many times, even I was uncomfortable. If it had been my first trip, I honestly would have been terrified. Considering the boat had already gone out multiple times earlier that day, I feel like they should have recognized the conditions were not ideal -- especially knowing there was little chance of seeing dolphins in waters that rough. I just think better judgment should have been used. If you're visiting for a family vacation, I would strongly recommend checking ocean conditions beforehand, because I'm not sure cancellations are considered unless absolutely necessary. read more

I have been on dolphin/sunset cruises before with other charters, they have always been so enjoyable, but this was hands down the worst experience of my life. The Captain started by saying they can't guarantee we'll see any dolphins (we didn't)...and then followed up by saying "let see how angry the Atlantic is", she was very angry by my standards. I don't know how large the waves were but I can tell you at one point I called my husband who was back home because I was terrified for my life. On board there was a young family with a baby, a young mom was puking overboard. Another lady on oxygen. The captain never should have let us go out to sea. or they should have at least given people a heads up about the waves. we didn't know how bad it would be, but I'm sure he knew it wouldn't be a comfortable ride considering they charter every few hours and since they told us "we keep in touch with local fisherman".Do better!!! I will never step foot on that boat again and I will never recommend it to any person. read more

HURRICANE II 11.5 hour trip. Caught a few fish. Tuesday August 2025. Me and my dad know this type business really well. We wouldn't go on this boat again. Old equipment. Boat drags around their anchor from spot to spot in roped off dangerous operation; because they have no windlass. And the Captain asks customers to help pull the 150 pound Danforth in at end of day. Wasted time with no anchor windlass. That means less fishing time. But some one will get hurt. Probably unsafe to have no anchor windlass to pull up anchor if needed. Never seen a fishing boat rigged this way. (Fine for a fun cruise but certainly not for serious fishing). Rental rods in crappy condition with duct tape holding some together. Captain was an Ass. Actually yelled at customers and he was full of hot air. Crew were fighting and arguing amongst themselves. In front of customers. Several times. Old boat minimally maintained. Heads / toilets not in good shape. Some cracking in and around aluminum rail/gunnel. They still has hard type old fashioned buoyant apparatus (for lifesaving equipment) on board that was likely 30 years old. Doors kept open all the time. So cabin was never cool from AC. They Probably kept cabin doors open due to smoke from galley grill and grease fire potential for hood vent over the grill. Upon docking at low tide the boat ran aground due to lack of berth pocket dredging and maintenance. Mud. But ageound none the less. Everything on this boat is an upsell. Buying towels. Buying a fish string. Most other boats have.a good system for this. On this boat it took forever to get all fish off to their owner. No place to clean your fish. Only a place for the boat crew to do this for the novice., at $1 per pound. The tracking of fish to anglers was poorly organized. They had a ton of ice on board but would not (we asked) put anyone's fish on ice for the first two hours in hot sun of August. Ruined / baked fish to my mind. This is a poorly run organization. read more

We could not be more disappointed in our half day trip with Hurricane Fleet. As locals, who have brought out of town guests and recommended them in the past, we have now lost faith in this outfit. We booked a second day this week and we're surprised and sad about our experience. We paid for premium as we did the day before and expected to be on the Teaser with a premium crew. Although the crew was adequate (which is why I gave 3 stars instead of 2) they asked for money at every turn even after we tipped. The bathroom was a bucket with a seat, no running water (not premium). Rigs were poorly maintained. Premium bait was not brought out until nearly the end of fishing time. We specifically asked for the same premium package we had the day before and was assured "no problem ma'am ". Well it was a problem. 5 of us went out to the Gulf Stream on 9/27 on the smaller charter that holds 20 passengers. WOW is all I can say. A GREAT captain & mate that did a FANTASTIC job putting us on ALOT of various fish! I had family visiting and wanted to give them an experience and this was a good one. We went on the Sunset Cruise and it was great. Unfortunately, we did not see Dolphins but we loved the cruise anyway because everyone was so nice and informative. I loved the Captain. The way he told stories was awesome. I have gotten sea sickness on cruises, but did not feel bad at all on this one. It was a choppy day too. Even thought we did not see Dolphins, they offered a return trip in the next week which we will be taking advantage of. I had another amazing fishing trip with the hurricane fleet. Captain Lee is awesome. It was a great experience. It started when I called to book the reservation. She said that she would make sure that we were on captain Lee's boat since the last time we went out with him we had a great time and caught a ton of fish. Too long, didn't read version:  Even with terrible sea sickness, this being my first ever experience into the ocean and deep sea fishing, I cannot wait to do this again. This is due to the ABOVE AND BEYOND efforts of Captain Lee and crew mates Mike and Rahim. Had it been any other crew just "doing their job", I may never had wanted to do this again because of the sea sickness. First Captain and crew, and I guarantee there couldn't be anyone better for my experience. Long version: I don't partake in Facebook nor any social media.  However, because of the incredibly amazing time that I had, on my very first ever venture into the ocean and deep sea fishing...it would truly be a travesty to not show my complete recognition and appreciation of Captain Lee, and crew mates Mike & Rahim (apologize if it's the wrong spelling). From the moment of meeting them, these three young men were friendly, professional, and ready to get after it!  The whole trip was filled with laughs, cracking jokes, and questions answered. Also, funny, I had managed to pick the one spot that was the ONLY place that the water from the waves would splash. Even BEFORE I had become completely soaked, they had offered us all seats in the Captain's bridge.  Seeing and joking that I had looked as if I just came out from the sea, Captain Lee and Mike, would continue to offer me with ear to ear smiles as they must've thought I was nuts. Haha. I declined because I'm from the Midwest and never get the chance to experience the ocean. And honestly,  I LOVED IT! The water was way warmer than I expected and I love the water.  When we arrived at the fishing area, another lady and I had unfortunately come down with some bad sea sickness. The gentlemen checked on us, didn't make us feel bad or embarrassed about it, and let us rest how we needed too, AND all the while keeping a great hand and assistance with the other customer fishers.  With such an efficiency and speed that I didn't know was possible in a boat with that many people, they moved about boat setting up fishing poles, fixing tangled lines, putting on bait, cutting up bait, taking fish off hooks into our buckets, and assisting with stubborn fish,  Once I finally recovered a bit, Captain Lee and Mike asked if I was ready to get after it, and helped me get started to CATCH THOSE FISH! This was the most and largest fish I've ever caught in my life since I'm only used to lakes. Rahim all the while was setting up fishing pole after fishing pole after fishing pole to give us customers the opportunity to bring in a big bad tuna! That poor guy also must've untangled a handful of my lines, but not once made it seem like it was a hassle or bothered.  Mike must've also been keeping a helpful eye on me to make sure I didn't tip overboard when I tried to move about. Or maybe he just thought it was hilarious, but either way, he made me crack up with his contagious good-natured humor and laughs. Captain Lee made a special effort to make sure each and every one of us were enjoying ourselves -- he knew I wasn't feeling well and a rookie, but had nothing, but positive words to say. Between making us laugh, being right there right when we needed help, having a phenomenal positive attitude, and having our life in his hands, I would 200% trust him again to get us there and back safely. Even WITH the sea sickness, as horrible as it really was, I have to say with utmost certainty that the Captain and crew are what made my experience go from terrible, to this being the highlight of my entire week long vacation. Had it been any other folks who are just "doing their job", I may not have wanted to do this again because that sea sickness was rough!! Because of the encouragement, good vibes, and how ABOVE AND BEYOND, Captain Lee, and crew mates Mike and Rahim went, I now cannot WAIT for my next deep sea adventure. One day, soon, I hope to return to South Carolina and fish with these awesome folks. I'm also not the only one who thought so either. I overheard an elder say that in his 30 years, he hadn't experienced any better.  First Captain and crew I've ever had, and I guarantee no one could do a better job for my first experience to the ocean and deep sea fishing!! read more

Not our greatest day of fishing for sure. Very windy with 4-6 foot rollers all day. Half the passengers were sick before we even reached the fishing grounds. While no one controls the weather, it seemed borderline irresponsible for these guys to go out that day. Seemed like a cash grab to me. Our family went out on a half day fishing trip. First, the positive - the crew were all friendly and helpful, happy to answer questions and did seem to make an effort to ensure that everyone's fishing was going smoothly. We saw dolphins while out and it was nice to see marsh from the water. We also saw egrets and other water birds. The not so good: we were pretty shocked to arrive and see that the fishing rods were spaced only about 18" apart along the sides of the boat. It was literally shoulder to shoulder and hard to maneuver. Also, of the large group of people on board (maybe 70), only 4 people caught fish large enough to keep and only two species were caught. It was a disappointment all around. We would have gladly paid more money for more space. read more

This Dolphin tour was made fantastic due to the experience of ALL the staff on this boat. Although our weather was threatening an impeding storm, the captain still made sure we were able to see what we came for, all the while keeping us safe and not endangering anyone. We beat the storm and had a great time on board! 80s music, touching real fish freshly caught in a shrimping boat and even managed to see a few dolphins jumping! On Sept 13, 2023, we reserved a 1/2 day fishing trip with Hurricane Fleet as we have done many years in the past. Instead of the usual large boat, 15 of us were crammed on a 45foot vessel, with no cabin, an single open toilet with no door, and the boat was really dirty. My granddaughter got lightheaded because she couldn't get out of the heat. Using the toilet for us women was out of the question. To their credit, Henry and Kelly were excellent crew. Kelly cleaned the boat when we got on and again at the end, it was way better than to begin with. They were helpful and courteous. We will not book with Hurricane Fleet again. We did not get what was advertised and had in past trips. read more

If you want to fish, find another boat. If you just want a boat ride find another boat. If you don't mind being told that you cannot fish in both the bow and stern or being told personally, how much you need to tip for each person in your party fishing or not, then this is your boat. Things to know. Before you Go The half day trip leaving at 9am left at 9:30am No explanation given. You were not allowed on the boat until 9am Just standing in line until then. So the first to fishing is negated. While boarding you are told NO fishing in the bow and stern A first anywhere. On the way out came a lot of things you could not due. The captain used his microphone a lot. From no personal bags in the cabin to expected gratuities. Join the pool another $10 per person. About 25 joined, who won it you will never know. When asked nobody knew. When asked on the way in if a nice fish caught was in the pool, the mate said "that's a great question". It was a good question since almost every fish caught was under 10inches. Finally, on the way in the captain, on "his" mike announced not only how good he was but the mates would come around and personally thank each person and you were Expected to give them a tip as you would in a restaurant. That would be 20% of the amount you paid for the trip. In 30 plus years of fishing I have never been told what you were expected to tip. Know this before you book, you have other fishing options. read more

Maybe we picked the wrong time and day. And I know you can't guarantee to see wild animals in the wild. Once boarding the unkept boat, that smelled of mildew and heading out of the waterway into the open ocean we were informed that there is no guarantee that we will see any dolphins. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Save your money or try a different company that has it together. The non-smoking boat trip featured an employee smoking on the back of the boat, and nothing that the website described. Glad I didn't bring the kids. But according to the website, "Imagine this: Our 90-foot cruise boat pulls right along side a working shrimp boat and our knowledgeable guide explains shrimping as the passengers watch the fishermen harvest the delicacies. Porpoises, and possibly shark, feed off the "by-catches" from the shrimping nets while their presence is felt as they jump along side the boat. Your family and guests will watch as the live catch - including shrimp, crabs, sand dollars, star fish, sea urchins, and other marine life that has ventured into the nets - scuttle about the deck. The astonishing variety of creatures that live under the sea is spread out to be observed at close range." All we saw were some shark teeth that were brought out at the end as what I'm assuming is a consolation prize. read more

Great private charter for our family of four fishing for the first time. Michael and Lee were terrific. They were very knowledgeable, explained everything and provided hands on help. The conditions were perfect and we caught several types of fish and sharks. Plenty of photo opportunities and even held a cannonball jellyfish! Two very happy teenagers (13 year old boy 19 year old girl) and happy mom and dad too. 4 hours is just long enough and the personal attention provided on a private charter was exactly what we needed as first timers. My family and I went on the 4 1/2 hour fishing trip. The boat was nice, clean, and the workers wore masks and took safety measures for Covid. The trip was fun, we caught different kinds of fish and the workers helped us anytime we had a problem and were great with helping our daughter fish and learn. Bathroom on board, inside part to get out of the sun if needed and for the kids when they get tired of fishing. Worst 1/2 Day Fishing Head Boat I've ever been on. Close to 100 People on board and we caught no more that 30 Small Fish going to 5 different locations. Were told by one of the Crew that this was a GOOD Day. Wow!!! Me and my buddy had ZERO bites the entire 1/2 day. Then, they had the nerve to thank us for such a successful day!! Bad, bad, bad. This is a RIPOFF Outfit and very unprofessional. The Crew were moving us all around on board while they "cleaned" the boat before we ever got to the docks!! I have been fishing the 12 hour offshore trip w/ the Hurricane Fleet 2 times every six months to stock My freezers back in New York. I confidently come down here knowing if we're going out I'll be coming home with fish. This company alone is one of the better for putting you on fish and has already ruined me for fishing head boats in other locations (NY, NJ, RI, CT, Long Island sound, just in the last six months and it's just NOT like fishing the Carolina's on a Hurricane Fleet) I came down solo to get some fishing in knowing it was February the worst month to fish the Carolina's reputedly (weather and luck wise) after other travel plans fell through last minute but said there are NO bad months to fish. From the girls taking to the booking to the mates this company is STELLAR! The nicest people Tiffany at the desk on top of everything, new mate Henry was nice and eager to help, mate Blake on the second trip out was AWESOME! He's one of the Better mates I've ever encountered he's quick, he helpful and efficient and he's right there when you need him, but The real Star of this Fleet is Captain Josh. When I met him on the first trip I didn't know he was the captain when he stepped on the boat. For one he's a young captain which is not a common thing in my experience I to be honest was not expecting much for a guy looking no older than 30. Also there isn't a single bit of arrogance to him that is traditional of Captains everywhere If I mistaken either of those factors for inexperience Boy was I wrong this Captain is BRILLIANT!! He is the single BEST Captain I've ever had the privilege of going fishing with he is 100% accommodating (I have Multiple Sclerosis and several physical disabilities) he assured me if there was any help I needed I'd get it and I did. As soon as those lines dropped this Captain knows what's going on on all 15 lines at once he's there helping you get your fish off then helping 3 other people like a flash. He's constantly surveying the success of the spots he's picked and each spot he picks was more "Hot" (productive) then the last. I told him I wanted a fish not seen inshore 25 miles out in February he told me to drop a line halfway and not even 10 seconds later I brought up double of that species I laugh but he's that good! Vastly knowledgeable about all the different species of fish which is a personal favorite of these trips seeing the more unusual species and learning about them because sportsmen and conservationship go hand in hand. If you want the tourist version of fishing where everyone catches the same fish pick ANY of the other fleets in the area if you want a shot at some truly unique and larger fish Go Hurricane. On every boat I've been on it's common place to have several folks on the same rail pulling out different species and still being able to reach max on the targeted. Besides the fishing side he is a phenomenal captain both days our 12 hour offshore were cut short due to rough seas and he maneuvered two smaller boats confidently and safely with as little turbulence as humanly possible while some pretty gnarly swells were present. It's the middle of winter in the Carolina's it's colder the waters rougher the fish are more scarce and further out and in two trips I caught over 67 fish and brought home over 30.
