I called them that morning and let them know my cat needed to be seen by a vet and was in distress. They had me come right in on a standby appointment. I got there checked in and they took Bella back to be checked. They called me back to the room and agreed it was time to put her out of her pain. They brought the check out paperwork back to me to be handled so I didn't have to go back out after the procedure. I really appreciated that. The vet was the same one I saw before and was wonderful again. She handled it with gentle care. I definitely recommend Bailey's. I know people aren't fond of it being not locally owned, but I have to say the vets are top notch and very good people. They can handle whatever you need done. They are there for you and your fur babies.

The Kennel is very big and there was also a litter of black labs when I picked up Jameson. Choosing a puppy is never going to be an easy task but Barb gave me some great advice and so far everything has gone well. If you go to a library to verify it in older books or any of the "developers" of this "Breed" you'll find nothing, at least I haven't so for. Lots of stuff on the internet, which can be installed by any good marketer. I was told by the kennel none were available immediately but then, a week or two later, a dog suddenly became available. Supposedly it was slated to go to someone in Alaska, the father of a close friend, but the prospective owner came down with cancer. Looking back it seemed believable but now ranks with , "I've got a lot of money I need to put in your bank for safety. I'm prince Mumba whaterver." I paid $1,400.00 for the dog and it lives up to all of its claims but it had a staff infection when I picked him up, I just didn't know it at the time. The staff caused a hair loss on both sides of his rib cage and we spent nearly as much as his purchase price to defeat it. I e-mailed them several times to advise them in case it may have spread to other dogs. Not so much as an acknowledgement. A great defense technique. In retrospect I believe I got scammed. It would have been obvious to a breeder when they saw the hair loss ( I saw it but thought it would grow in, he was just 2 mos old). Rather than sell the dog to a friend of a friend I got hoodwinked and was relieved of my money on what is probably not a "Breed" but more like an established crossbreed. I would not recommend this place unless you take a vet with you. He's about a year old now and turned out to be a great family pet and hunter but he'll never develop a decent undercoat. My two stars are based on the fact that I was sold a dog in 2007 and told that she was genetically healthy and sound, when in fact she was not (developed cataracts in both eyes at 3 years old) and because when I have contacted or responded to Berniece and later Craig, I got no answers. For full transparency, after my first review, Craig (who took over for his mother Berniece) contacted me: "I am so sorry to hear about the health issues your dog has had. I wonder why you waited 9 years to complain about it. Had you made the problems know too my mother I'm sure she would have helped. Since I don't know who the parents of your dog are it is difficult for me to qualify your remarks. None of my dogs have food allergies or health issues of any kind. I am a responsible breeder, in good standing with AKC. My mother left me some wonderful dogs, and they meet all standards for purebred Shiba Inu. My puppies are very social and often can be off leash dogs. I'm very sorry Kelsey was unhappy and waited so long to mention it." I responded telling him I had in fact contacted Berniece about the issues and never heard anything back from her. I also told him who her parents were. He never responded after that, and I now see my initial review was deleted. I never asked for or expected any kind of refund, all I wanted was to make her aware of the potential health problems in her dogs so she could test her dogs and avoid producing more dogs with health problems. I did tell him that if I had seen that they were doing OFA testing I would have reconsidered my review. Now looking at his website, I see that he mentions OFA certifications on his website, so he at the very least acknowledges it and mentions that information on health testing can be given if you contact him. I would strongly advise anyone that is considering purchasing a puppy from him to ask to see those. For reference, OFA recommends the following tests for Shibas: Hip Dysplasia (One of the following- OFA Evaluation, OVC Evaluation, PennHIP Evaluation) Eye Examination by a boarded ACVO Ophthalmologist (Results registered with OFA) Patellar Luxation (OFA Evaluation) https://www.ofa.org/recommended-tests?breed=SHU&var= Also be aware that you should be able to look up these results as they are registered with OFA. I would be happy to alter my review if Craig posts his dog's pedigrees on his website with details on specifically what OFA testing he has done, or if he wants to contact me and email me those. I absolutely believe that he loves his dogs, and I believe that people can work to improve their breeding practices. But I need to see proof because anyone can say they health test their dogs.
