I had been a patient under Dr. Alissa for about six years, and I was very disappointed with the care I received during that time. I rarely, if ever, actually saw the doctor. Almost every appointment was handled by a different PA, which meant I constantly had to re-explain my full medical history, diagnosis history, symptoms, and concerns. As someone diagnosed with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Raynaud's syndrome, and other related issues, that was extremely frustrating and exhausting. Many of my lupus-related concerns were also often referred out to other doctors instead of being fully addressed. When Dr. Maria Salinas took over the practice, I came in for an appointment because I was dealing with inflammation, pain, and lupus-related symptoms. I honestly planned on finding another rheumatologist, but after this visit, I completely changed my mind. I was actually seen by Dr. Salinas herself, and I was so grateful. She already had my history, took the time to discuss my conditions with me, listened to my concerns, and made me feel heard. One of the biggest things that stood out was that she took my past experience with methotrexate seriously. I had bad side effects from that medication when I was younger, and instead of dismissing that, she discussed another option with me, Leflunomide. Today is day five on the new medication, and this morning I noticed a real difference. Before starting it, it would usually take me at least two hours every morning just to get moving because of the stiffness and pain. Some mornings I could barely stand up straight, and the swelling, pain, and weakness in my hands made it hard to even hold my coffee cup. This morning, I woke up without that same stiffness and was able to hold my cup with no problem. Dr. Salinas was kind, patient, knowledgeable, and understanding. She also allowed me to openly discuss my concerns about how the practice was run before. She explained that she has plans to improve the practice, including hiring another rheumatologist and one PA to help with patients. Most importantly, she said patients will consistently see the same provider, whether that is Dr. Salinas, the new rheumatologist, or the PA. That alone means so much because one of the hardest parts of the previous practice was seeing a different PA almost every time. I believe many of the older negative reviews reflect how the practice was managed under Dr. Alissa, but now that Dr. Salinas has taken over, I truly feel hopeful about my care here. She made me feel seen, heard, and taken seriously, and I am absolutely staying with this rheumatologist. I am very thankful for Dr. Salinas and look forward to continuing my care with her.

No one answers the phone since it is not there it is an answering service. I did not like the PA I saw at my last visit. She should have read my chart before my appointment, so I did not have to explain to her all my issues I have had. I literally had to go to the office just to talk to someone and complain about it. I do not take being rushed or seem to not be important on my issues. I am trying to find another doctor near me, but I have looked at their reviews and are not much better. I can't even believe they charge to do FMLA paperwork to. 125.00 for no rush, 175.00 if you need it ASAP. What a scam.

Also this was a follow up "visit" from my annual. I have had this experience before and I was never asked to pay for my follow up appt and I was told "it's a part of your annual, you don't need to. It's covered." when I asked at Lone Star Medical why I needed to pay for a follow up visit, her answer at the front desk was "it's $25 :)". So I was like whatever, just get it over with. But I don't think that was fair. On regards to the provider care, I was told everything was fine -many things were, but not everything. I caught a low level for something on my bloodwork and a high one that's been alarming for me for a couple of years now and my provider just goes "it's not bad". But I do have several symptoms of something "unknown" and "undiagnosed" things that aren't normal. The wait times when I was scheduled and fasted was insane. The lab provider was amazing! 5 stars to her. In all senses. Great at her work and she deserves a raise! Also, I had recommended a friend so she could have her annual visit and we both are new patients, however, they never ever called her back to schedule hers. Of course she ended up going somewhere else. I just wish this town would have better options that take insurance and provide caring care. Not business care. My provider, however, the great things I can say is that she has an amazing personality and made me feel like home while in the office visit with her. However, communication after my appointment didn't meet my expectations.

I see Dr. Jay Gruhlkey and it is always a pleasant experience. You really have to appreciate his professional, yet laid back jeans and a button up shirt and cowboy boots, approach to medical care. He has never steered me wrong, and his bedside manner is outstanding. Listens to your issues, does not judge, and explores all options to treat your issues. Highly recommend him. He is hard to get in to see, but if you have time to wait, definitely try to.

When nessesary accelerated specialist referrals are given also. And they know your insurance, and will work with them... so you can concentrate on your care. No worrying about follow ups, prescriptions, or the dreaded out-of-network billing nightmares. Its a very simple seamless managed Health care experience at its best, right here in NB! 5 stars! The staff was very friendly and seemed to make everyone feel welcome. The doctor was equally friendly and took the time to talk with me and come up with a solution to my problem. He didn't throw a bunch of unnecessary medications at me, giving me just the one prescription he felt I needed. This was a welcome change from doctors I've been to years ago who'd prescribe all sorts of stuff that I didn't need. Anyhow, good staff and a good doctor, well worth the drive from NE San Antonio. The only thing that would probably lead me to give it a 4.5 was the fact that he was about 30min late for the visit. But considering they got me a same day appointment, I don't suppose I can complain much.

We were patients for many, many years. We had amazing experiences with every doctor, nurse,…read moresecretary and staff member prior to the corporate take-over. We left the practice due to this (and our pediatrician retiring). Even when the company was bought-out, the local staff were so great. However...Due to the corporate take-over, the management of New Braunfels Pediatrics has gone downhill. I requested in early August that both of my children's records be transferred to their new local pediatrician office in town. There is a partnership with the medical records department that funnels into Vital Charts. Between New Braunfels Pediatrics and Vital Charts and a lot of hand-holding by me (Mom), it took 32 business days for my children's records to be received. The New Braunfels Pediatrics' office manager contacted me twice (once per my request and once on her own accord to follow up), but I was not contacted after the records were in the possession of the new pediatrician's office to verify with me. One of my children has an ongoing medical condition. The fact that his new doctor did not have access to his life record for that long is completely unprofessional and uncalled for. I, at one point, requested they drive the records over themselves, or me coming up there for them to print their records, and was denied because they can't authorize the release of the records, Vital Charts has to. They were being transferred to a local office, a 10 minute drive away. Shame on New Braunfels Pediatrics for allowing this long of a gap and shame on Vital Charts for taking so long to properly release these records. Parents should not have to hold the hands of the medical secretaries to ensure records are where they need to be. IF NB Pediatrics handled their business IN HOUSE (like they used to) I know it would have been handled in a timely manner. Thankfully the issue is now resolved, but it took at least 5 phone calls to both agencies, along with a threat of reporting, for this to actually get done.
