The Car Salon restored my 1990 Mazda Miata!…read more In July 1989 I purchased a Mazda Miata - on of the first 2 dozen to enter Manitoba. On the day I picked it up it had 7 km on the odometer. In 1989 the car was a sensation - singlehandedly reviving the market for convertibles. Fast forward 30 years and my mechanic was telling me that if the rust damage was not repaired it would no longer be possible to put the car on the hoist and service it. The perforations were also going to prevent it from passing a safety inspection so a sale was not possible. It was either do significant repairs or have it towed away by the Kidney Foundation for scrap. But how could I do that? The Miata is one of the greatest driving experiences you could ever have. With a weight under 2000 lb it handles like no other car on the road. Its rack and pinion steering is so precise you can change lanes and make turns almost by thought alone. And its gear shift has been praised as one of the best shifters ever. And with top down you are officially a sun god. No towing; just fixing please! I searched Winnipeg and its environs in vain. No autobody or restoration shop was willing to undertake the repairs. I tried Minneapolis but again notta. I contacted every restoration place I could find in Toronto and finally found one that could do the repairs. But they wouldn't! My car didn't meet their criteria: It wasn't more than 50 years old; and it wasn't British! Then I found The Car Salon in Calgary. Courtney - my first point of contact - said they could do the work... please send pictures. I sent pictures. They sent a quote. A quote generated from some automobile estimating software. Finally, it looked like I had found the real deal. In January 2023, with the mercury down to -35 C I drove the Miata out to Calgary and Tony Scott gave me a royal of The Car Salon - a multi-faceted shop that can take care of most anything car related. I was convinced. I showed Tony the original Mazda brochure I had saved from 1989. I pointed to its lush marketing photos and said "I just want it to look as close to the way it was originally introduced as possible". When Tony's crew began the tear down I could see from the resulting pictures that the damage was more formidable then was obvious from the surface. But I still wanted to go ahead. And thanks to Mazda's MX5 30'th Anniversary Parts Program a lot of parts were now still available. But a few were not. Tony scoured auto wreckers all over Alberta, and then North America including Miata specialist wreckers as far away as Florida (who knew that was thing!). And when even that could not turn up what was required, Sean fabricated the parts himself. The pictures I received of the repaired and painted frame were nothing short of staggering. What a craftsman! Likewise when a plastic part in one exterior mirror disintegrated and could not be sourced Sean made his own mold and fabricated that. Finally, on November 17'th, after nearly 10 months, I flew back out to Calgary and made my way back to The Car Salon. When they pulled my Miata out of the service bay I could not believe my eyes. It was now restored, painted and detailed with evident loving care. It looked quite as perfect as the day I first picked it up in July 1989. After 34 years and doing most of the servicing myself, I knew every nut and bolt of this vehicle and wherever I looked everything was pristine. The repairs of the rusted frame were astounding. The paint job and the detailing of the interior were fantastic. Even the two rusty toe hooks, which are barely visible in the Miata's maw and which most people would never notice, were like new! From stem to stern it was magnificent! I was glad when Sean invited me to sit down in the drivers seat so he could adjust the sideview mirrors for me - at this point my legs were so wobbly I cold barely stand up. Thank you to Tony Scott, Courtney, Sean and the entire team at The Car Salon by keeping my Miata dream alive. I am so impressed with the way you handled this difficult and demanding job. It was clear to me that my Miata could not have received better attention than if was your own vehicle. You guys are amazing!

Went in at the end of the day to pick up my vehicle and there was only one guy working. I had already put $1000 down on the tires as a deposit, so I paid the extra $1400 & $300 plus tax for storage. PLUS I left a tip PLUS I bought the guys a case of beer!! The guy behind the counter said the till was closed and I watched him put my cash into an envelope. A bit later, I had to take a tire off to deal with a brake issue and realized that they had switched out my stainless steels lugnuts for cheap ones. I went in to talk about this and they denied of course. I said I wanted to take my summer tires (36" Toyo Open Country, purchased 3 months earlier at $620/each) & they said they couldn't find them. Long story short, They screwed me around for months with the final outcome being that they stole my tires and lugnuts! Approx $2800 value. Absolute CROOKS!!!!

When test-fitting the rear tires, the tech used a front tire (instead of back tire - different size) and said I needed 1/4 spacers. So I ordered 1/4 inch spacers despite thinking I needed bigger ones. When they went to mount the wheels, they said - 'Oh no, you need 1 inch spacers - 'we fit the front wheel on the back instead of the front'. So I then ordered 1 inch spacers at my cost. When they finally fit the wheels, all was good (but it was not). When I got two people in the car or enough weight, the back tires would rub in the wheel wells. I thought it might be a suspension issue as the tires were fit properly. They weren't. I scheduled the car into a different garage to address the suspension issue. It was not a suspension issue - turns out, WheelXpert fitted BOTH spacers to the rear wheels which spaced the tires too far out which made the wheels rub the outside of the wheel wells. Not only did they get me to order the wrong spacers in the first place - they fitted BOTH spacers (1/4inch + 1inch) to the back wheels to create a rubbing issue on the back end!!!! WTF. I'm not a tire guy and even I am smart enough not to do this!! Will never go back......

This repair job happened in the NW shop of Simplicity Car Care. My 2006 Honda CRV-SE had a…read morecollision last August 23. The repair required replacement of the following, passenger front fender, black textured bumper cover, fog lights, passenger side headlight and the aircon condenser needs replacement. The frame of the passenger headlight needs alignment as well as the passenger fender bracket. The repair was started Sept 15 and I picked up the car Sept 23. I paid $ 1,068 for the labor and materials but I supplied the original condenser, passenger Fender, fog lights and DOT stamped textured black bumper cover. Upon inspection at home I found the following defects: the repaired frame was not fully painted and showed chipped-off paint, The bumper support was not painted, there was a missing 10mm bolt on the fender that why it was rattling, the 2 fog light holes that were badly cut that the bumper cover was damaged, The spot welding that was supposed to be done on the headlight frame was neglected. The owner and staff of the NW branch refused to repair the vehicle according to the owner's manual specification and said that I should supply original parts. I supplied parts that are considered original as per T and T Honda based on the DOT stamp of approval. The bumper cover was also misaligned on the passenger side because the headlight frame was off. I asked for a 2nd repair job last Nov 23 and was granted to bring the car back but they will not replace the damaged black textured bumper but repair and paint all the deep scratches at my cost which is dumb and absurd and inconsiderate. I mentioned to Sarah that I will bring this up to the small claims court but declined to do it since the cost is not too high and just wanted to get back or refund $402 for the unfinished job on the CRV. Sarah and their management never contacted me again. Maybe they think it was over. I used the help of my son to finally fix the unfinished job and bought spray paint cans to finish the job and seal off the cracked paint on the bumper guard and frames. This review is looking pretty epic and it's nice and awesome for customers to know the bad experiences of past customers so that new customers will know what to look out for and evaluate the shop for expertise. We customers pay good money that we have worked for and we just want equal service for the best repair job possible. I was told by Sarah that they will refer this case to the lawyers and owner and find a solution but they never made contact since Dec 23. This is a bad shop and should be avoided if possible. When I picked up my car last Sept 23 I came across a customer who was also dissatisfied with the repair on his Hyundai car and told me that he will never go back to the shop and will look elsewhere. I will not likely recommend this shop to my friends and relatives or to anyone who wants a quality repair. The mechanic is a pain to explain things on what to do because he does not do a good job. I will negotiate to get back $402 for the repair that was not done since I spent time and materials to repair the CRV in my garage. Now all are aligned, painted and running smoothly without any rattling sound and vibration. The mechanic said that it was the slightly dented radiator that was rattling. If fact it was the fender with a missing bolt. I will also report this incident to The Personal Insurance Company for a poor job done on my CRV. This is an Epic Review. Finally the black bumper cover and headlight are aligned and all cracked paint are sealed. Again the replacement parts installed were certified by Honda dealership for an old model where original parts are hard to find. I brought my own parts as negotiated with simplicity and they agreed without any hesitance to install them and later they complained that they cannot align the bumper and headlight. But because I was the first owner of the 2006 CRV, I was able to align the fender, bumper and headlight properly. I have deep regrets after bringing the vehicle to their NW shop and wasted my hard earned money. Henry the shop owner insulted me by asking if this old 2006 Honda CRV is worth restoring. As a customer this will make you feel belittled.
