Avoid this practice at all costs. The dentist is really pushy about invisalign and did work that was unnecessary so my insurance would not cover the costs. To top it off, I kept getting bills periodically after not getting services for over a year!! I first want to start off by saying the office is very clean and modern and the front desk staff are an amazing team very professional My initial visit and referral was specifically for Dr. Angelo whom I think is wonderful.. Fast forward to the pandemic 2020 Dr. Angelo wasn't available so Dr. Calian agreed to see me. he did a crown for me and a couple weeks went by and I'm experiencing pain in the tooth. I contact the office Dr. Calian tells me its normal it will pass eventually. 3 months later the tooth is killing me now so I go to another Dentist for a second opinion, I'm then informed that I needed a root canal on said tooth. I reach back out to the office to inform him of what was told to me, he asked me to come in as he didn't want to lose me as a customer and told me he would fix the tooth free of charge. I go back to the office its a completely different Dr. Checking the tooth this day. She requested that I pay $2000 to get the Canal started. So I declined the services as I was promised to have the tooth corrected free of charge by Dr. Calian being as though prior to him placing the crown the tooth needed to have a root canal. Mind you I've going to this dentist for several years at this point. I called the office back again about a month ago I was promised a call back with a resolution. Never happened!! Now I have to pay to have a brand new crown done again. #1 I was severally burnt on the lip with one of the tools being used during a procedure. #2 All customers records were lost or stolen in 2020 These are key signs that I should have left. This is Michelle Gibson. If you read my previous gracious teview, please take note. It is misleading. As indicated in my previous review, I was scheduled a week out for another $150 office visit and consultation for an "actionable" abscessed molar. At the consultation, I was told they needed to take a CRT scan which took about 2 minutes and cost $190. Taken back to the room to follow up with the "general" dentist consult, I was told I wiil need to be seen by their periodontist to extract the tooth and have a bone graft, then I would be referred to another physicisn for an implant. A pattern was in place. Inefficiency manifested from there on out. The metaphor "the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing" played out in my experience. Four weeks in, I still have an actionable abscessed molar, up against the reality that I have airline tickes already booked to travel to Hawaii in 7 days. I wouldn't let the staff at the Calian Group come near me if all my molars were abscessed. I have made an appointment with an endodontist upon my arrival at my destination. Nice enough staff but constant over charges and high pressure sales tactices They instantly started to sell me on having my wisdom teeth removed when my previous dentist told me a may have a problem years down the road or might not and it was better to take a wait and see approach. Wisdom teeth removal was pushed on me every visit. The type of fillings they used for my cavities were of a specific type only partially covered by insurance. Fine, it happens i guess. They used two different types of Xrays in the same year which isn't covered by my insurance. I had to pay out of pocket because they wanted to use some fancy stand-up machine instead of the normal photo thing. I decided they weren't worth my time. My last visit was in 2015. 3 years later, I still recieve calls every 6 months or so to rebook. I tell them no thank you. This last time they called, i got upset and said I have asked to be removed from their books every call for the last couple of years and to stop bothering me. Today, just a few days later, they sent an email. Quote. "I am giving you the opportunity to pay your balance of $126.00 before your account goes to collections." Weird how this is the first time collections has ever come up in 3 years. They only bothered to call about appointments, haven't sent any mail and my last email from them prior to today was an appointment confirmation from 2015. Insurance / payments are always wonky so who knows if it's legitimate but you absolutely do not inform someone of a late payment 3 YEARs after the fact and you certainly don't do it with a threat. read more

Three stars because staff is super nice. I walked in for an Invisalign consultation. $1,400, cash, later, I didn't get my Invisalign, but something I didn't ask for. I also sat in four different rooms, playing dental musical chairs. If you have the money to spend, throw it into their office. They're definitely state of the art and I can say he is a great dentist. Hygienist is very thorough as well. Never felt worst about my teeth than after leaving there though. As for me, I'm pretty clear with what I want and how I want to spend my hard earned money. I feel like I was bamboozled. No, thank you. I could have invested that money into my children and had my insurance pay for the work he did, by another dentist. Sigh. read more

This dental group is an absolute SCAM! They try and take your money in every way possible. First time I went for a cleaning they didn't even clean my teeth because they ran out of time. Had to make a second appointment where they then told me I need a deep cleaning for $1500. When I called to make another appointment for just a regular cleaning, they told me I could simply not just get a cleaning and that I had to be evaluated and get x rays all over again for $260. i LOVE this dentist. Super professional and always prompt when i have an appt. I never wait. They have even accommodated me a couple of times when i was stuck in traffic. I went to change all of my fillings out from silver to white (a lot of work) and my teeth now look amazing!!! I have no insurance so everything was self pay but it has been worth every penny spent. Dr Calian made me feel comfortable and made sure i knew of everything that was going on by showing me photos of the issues and explaining how they could be fixed. I drive from the upper east side to white plains and do not mind the travel because i know i am in good hands. The supporting staff is amazing as well. I went to this dentist because it was close to my work and convenient. This business caters to people who don't blink at paying thousands of dollars copay for dental procedures, and uses high pressure sales tactics to sell you procedures that aren't even necessary. The prices for their services are extremely high, but the office manager sat with me and went over what my insurance will pay, and what my copay would be. My dental insurance is decent, and I have $2500 annual limit. The copays they quoted me were very high, but I decided to get it done because of the convenient location. I paid over $1000 on my copays. On my last visit, I paid off my full copay balance with a credit card payment of over $500 and the office manager confirmed that my balance was zero. This office exhausted my dental insurance for the whole year, and now I can't get anything else done until next year. I dealt with that, but months later I started receiving bills from this office of an amount over $600. I went to the dental office and asked them what I'm getting charged for as I was assured by that office manager on that last visit that my balance was zero. The billing person told me that it was for what my insurance did not pay. When I confronted her that my insurance did make the payment to them, she brought out that same office manager. This office manager now tells me that my insurance did pay, but that new charge is for the half balance of my copay! Half? When I was told by this same woman months ago that my copay is fully paid? I asked her to show me where does it say that I only paid half of my copay, and of course, she could not explain. She just tells me that I only paid half of my copay. When I asked her "then why did you confirm on my last visit that my copays have been fully paid", she denied telling me that and started raising her voice and accused me of calling her a liar, which she clearly is, but you don't do that with a client. I've never been treated like this by a medical or dental provider. This business is shady and only wants your money. Avoid! read more

I have been to two other dentist in White Plains. I believe this is the one I won't mind going back to. The staff is very friendly. They do a great job with all the procedures. I got cleaning done and cavities filled. Dr. Calian was very thorough with the procedure. For my cleaning the dental hygienist Olga again was very thorough and friendly. The only reason I am giving this 2 stars is because of the hygienists. They are all pleasant and thorough. The receptionists are nightmares! A few months back they called to tell me I made an appt which I never did for a "aching tooth" and I literally had to argue with them that it wasn't me that called and that my teeth were fine. They threatened to charge me because it was under the 48 hour mark and they legit had me as the wrong patient written down for the appt. The second time was this past week. I had to call twice to cancel an appt that is a week out because I just gave birth and don't have coverage. The first time the receptionist said I was all good and the appt was cancelled but gave me an attitude because I couldn't reschedule right then. I'm sorry but I don't have a baby sitter that I can just call at a whim. 5 days later I get a text reminder about the same appt I cancelled. I called today to let them know I already cancelled and they argued with me that I never did. I finally said I want to make sure I don't get Charged and they patronized me with the 48 hour policy for cancellations That I already was aware of which is why I cancelled it 5 days ago. The receptionist was then rude again when I said I didn't want to reschedule because I would be going elsewhere- and she hung up on me! They did this to my husband too which is why he left this dentist a few months ago. I know making an appt is important, but life gets in the way sometimes and they aren't very flexible with families and the rudeness is uncalled for. I feel like it's a bit of a scam too when they play dumb about cancelling appts. The dentist is ok, but also pretty pushy with extra work that he thinks needs to be done. read more

Unpleasant surprise Six months ago I went to the office for a cleaning.The doctor's staff made me feel like everything was wrong with my teeth(even no this was contested by a later dentist), that I needed a lot of work in order to make a deeper cleaning treatment. The insurance only cover 50% of the superficial cleaning. They presented a statement and said that I have no obligation to do the treatment, But now, six months later they continuous calling me and asking me to come back and do the treatment that I have done already in other professional. I wish the office staff would stop harassing me on the phone. If I had wanted to do the treatment with doctor Calian staff I would already done so.. read more

Have been a patient (as well as my brother, sister, mother and father) since I was 5 years old (about 17 years ago). As I've grown older, I found numerous problems with Calian and the staff. For instance when I was scheduled to get my wisdom teeth taken out, I chose a regular procedure and they attempted to change my procedure 3 times 2 hours before I was scheduled. I personally confronted Calian about it, and he had a very nonchalant attitude. When my mother (who is a medical doctor herself) confronted both of them, their attitudes completely changed. We also did have a problem with ethics in terms of telling other people about our conditions in our teeth. Aside from his personality and poor work ethic, the pricing is outrageous. In addition they had changed prices up to $1000 in front of me without any respect. I pity anyone who still goes there. read more

My dental treatment experience at Dr. Calian's office was about as close to perfection as you can find. I moved from Boston and he came highly recommended. The staff was all courteous and attentive. There was really no wait to speak of and the receptionist made the intake process a breeze - even the paperwork was pretty minimal compared to other dentists that I've visited. The office is extremely clean and everything was in its place with beautiful artwork and soothing music to take away that typical anxiety that I get at dentists offices. Once I met Dr. Calian, I could understand why every office/staff detail was so meticulously cared for - he's clearly a perfectionist, which I really prefer when it comes to my cosmetic dentist. He was thorough in his explanations of everything and really seemed to care about his work and how I was feeling - making sure that I didn't feel a thing with my extensive dental work which included some deep fillings and a crown. I always have pain at the dentist because I'm resistant to the anesthesia and he was able to fully treat me without feeling anything! I was able to get my teeth cleaned, have a full examination and even start treatment on my first visit. It was really important for me that the process was as efficient as it was because I don't have time for endless visits. The other thing was that he didn't seem to up-sell me which most dentists do and that really made me trust him. About the only negative was that I parked on the street at a meter and ended up getting a parking ticket but then I found out that they offer free parking in the building. Doh! All in all, a great experience and I'll be going to Dr. Calian for all my care from now on. read more

Although the hygenists are really nice as well as Dr. Calian and Dr. Nathans the reception-folks are not soo.. They call when they are running early to see if you can come in early but when they are running late there is no corresponding call and you wait and wait and wait until finally you just have to walk out. It's really ridiculous....regardless of intent it really gives the impression that they really don't care about your personal time. STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN!!! I went there for the annual checkup and was happy with the clean. The doctor recommend me to remove the wisdom and I agreed to get it removed. I had 2 bad experiences with Calian Dental Group after the initial cleaning. 1. I have been requested to wait in the dental surgery chair for around 1 hour and the surgeon was attending other patients. During the tooth removal surgery the surgeon was rash and his big big hand was flexible enough to remove the wisdom tooth delicately. He was on a rush and removed the tooth abruptly cause a lots of damage to the root. The bleeding was not stopping after a day or two and I took a reappointment with Dr. Calian. He prescribed me hydrocodone and antibiotic to reduce the pain and the wound took around 4 weeks to heal. 2. During the cleaning time I have been requested for fill the cavities. I have been examined by the doctor and provided with the estimate. I have also paid the deductible for the surgery as per the estimate. A month later I have received an additional invoice from Dr. Calian and I have spoken to receptionist Julian/others around 4 times for the clarification. I have been told that the invoice was for the additional fillings and my insurance company did not cover the Resin composite fillings for the rear tooth which was okay for me but Calian Dental neither inform me or mentioned in the estimate. The estimate shown the patience amount as well as the total cost. They could have also advised me to call the insurance company and verify but Julian had all the details to do so. I'm not the first person who has done the filling and I have also been told there is no way that Julian can find what is covered through Delta dental insurance. So I called delta insurance and clarified this statement with the insurance company. Delta dental told me that usually dental service providers calls and verify the coverage based on the PROCEDURE CODE or they can check that online. So I'm not sure why they doing this intentially? for money? Is it a good customer service practice? Think before you visit this place :) I missed to add that the polishing on my upper tooth was not correctly done and after filling I started getting pain on the bottom tooth which was there never before ! read more

I went there for 2 years. The dentist Calian does not talk to you very much and doesn't give a thorough check up. My previous dentist made even a throat exam to check for cancer. I think he is kind of expensive and I always experience problems with my bill. Usually I had credits that they never mentioned to me until I asked about it. read more

I visited the office recently and the staff is nice and professional. The office looks good and so are the exam rooms. The thing is it's very pricey so I give it a decent rating. They give you an estimate how much everything is going to be but I honestly do recommend going somewhere else if don't have dental insurance. Save yourself going into debt. read more
