I was a little bugged because they told us we had to use the whole amount that day. And we could not use it on ammunition. So we paid $20 for $30. Went in a week or so ago to price a certain type of Mossberg 500. They ended up having the specific model I wanted at a more then fair price. Their 2 free range visits with gun purchase isn't a bad perk either. Went in today to cash in my range visit and put a few rounds through the Mossberg. I was instantly remembered and welcomed by the staff. They all are friendly and passionate about what they do. The range is well lite and not very busy. I took my fiancé here to teach her how to handle and fire my handgun. Highly recommend for first time shooters. They made her feel safe and comfortable in a very controlled environment. Here for a self-defense class. Instructors were great! Funny, helpful and on point with the instruction. I would definitely take another class here. The classrooms are large enough for 20 or so people, but the chairs are a bit uncomfortable. There is a "student" lounge with a soda machine and coffee pot, but no fridge or microwave. Bathrooms are clean. It's nice to have a Daily Grind next door for coffee and lunch. read more

So, my brother comes for a visit. He loves to shoot guns. I grew up with a gun toting family, so I say, "Sure, lets go do some target practice!" This newest Calibers opened a while ago, but the facility itself is really nice. We went in, got all set up, got shooting glasses, ear protection, a couple of targets and a lane. The people behind the counter were great. It was busy, but still the staff seemed pretty easy going and were having a good day. We get on our lane, apparently a kid (teenager) had gotten a freaking submachine gun/uzi for his birthday, and was there with his dad. Nice family time... but jeez, LOUD. So, I know I have ear protection, but it was seriously loud and reverberating off the walls, easily 10x louder than any of the handguns, because he was shooting bursts of 50 rounds. I looked at my brother and was like, "seriously, no." I go back to the counter and they move us to another lane on the other side. We can now have a conversation and we are happily talking and taking turns killing our target, when who changes side? That damn kid! We had been at it for about an hour at that time, so we were basically done. And, we left. I know guns are loud, I know, I know, but maybe if there was only one side that semi automatic weapons could fire, then the other side could be reserved for the single round weapons. Because, I could not hear myself think, focus, or even care about shooting with that Uzi going off next to me. It totally distracted from the entire experience and lost a star for Calibers. read more

Went a few days ago with some cousins for the first time. We brought our own guns and rented a couple (9mm Glock and full auto Uzi). The place was busy but the wait wasn't long (15-30 minutes). The people behind the counter were mostly friendly but stern about rules (as any good range marshall should be). Target, ear protection and eye protection were included in the price which is nice for out-of-town visitors. The only real gripe was the lack of chairs or a loading bench in the range area which made for awkward loading and staging. The rental Glock was pretty clean but only came with 1 10-rd magazine. The rental Uzi went through 100 rounds fast but was fun. The silencer on the Uzi made it more interesting. All in all, a good experience. read more

I was there yesterday and was impressed with the sales staff. They were informative and took the time to discuss several guns with me- even though I mentioned to them I was just looking. The people at Calibers are just plain rude. There is really no need for this when you're operating a business and you deal with the public. I've read some awful reviews and I thought, well, maybe people were not being very objective. They clearly were because the staff is just unkind and discourteous. I have been an annual member for over 5 years after taking a CCW class for my license there. The instructor who had decades of law enforcement and military ops experience impressed me so much that I returned and became a regular weekly member of practicing all scenarios of shooting from concealment, defensive shotgun and AR-15 handling. I spent easily over $10,000 on just firearms after getting the bug from the private instructor's teaching and enthusiasm. Well in the last 6 months the management had been clearly trying to squeeze him out in my opinion to get in our pockets for the fees we paid the instructor during the weekly practices and the specialty classes such as the shotgun and AR-15. Not only the greed but they behaved badly by removing us from the scheduled range times that were consistent for years and just generally being rude to the instructor and us. I am very disappointed in the management. I spent my moneythere exclusively even though they weren't as cheap as other places just to support the local range and the instruction I was receiving. I will never spend another dime there nor recommend this establishment to anyone. At least there is another indoor range in Moriarty now. I will go there even though it quite a longer drive just to not deal with such unprofessional management. They ruined a real good thing read more

As an avid shooter, I rate all of the ranges I go to according to the following criteria: selection, safety, price, and atmosphere. Selection: Calibers has a pretty good selection of pistols ranging from modern revolvers and semi-autos, to cowboy-style Ruger replicas. They also have few rifles but I don't recall seeing an shotguns there. They also have a fully automatic M4 with a seven inch barrel! Selection is three out of five. Safety: The employees here make sure and ask you if you know what you are doing and they keep a pretty sharp eye on the range. The weapons were all in great shape and clean. Five out of five. Price: The prices here simply cannot be beat. The lane rental is cheap, the ammo is cheap, and the weapon rental is cheap. No complaints here! Five out of five. Atmosphere: The range is a little dark and so is the store, although the store is rather spacious. Other than that, the staff is friendly and well-informed and parking is great. Four out of five. Overall, Calibers is a great place for some no-frills shooting. You can be in and out for not a lot of money and the staff will be able to help you with any problems or questions you might have. Calibers is worth giving a shot. This new indoor shooting range in compasses two large shooting bays with numerous shooting lanes in each. During our visit we rented the 9mm pistol caliber which allowed us to shoot 5 different brands (we would have shot many more different pistols had we had more time). If you rent anything you must purchase the ammo from Calibers (a little pricey). We experienced a few different shooters renting long guns one full auto AR and one Barret 50cal. When someone uses the 50 they clear the line allowing you to prepare for the loud beast of a rifle. The full auto rifles they do not announce to anyone. This was not great when you are in the lane next to it and not prepared. I recommended to one of the range employees that they tell the lanes next to the full auto rifles that they are firing (his reponse was "yep they are loud", so I don't think they'll take my recommendation). Overall it was very fun and nice. I would also recommend wearing 2 sets of hearing protection. read more

Both stores---Cutler, or Coors---offer decent stock, but really helpful service from very dedicated associates. The indoor ranges are up-to-date and powerfully exhaust the smoke and fumes. Indoor shooting range and classes is all this place really has.... I have a gift card for here (had for 2 years now) and can't really use it. I have plenty of guns but they never seem to have anything for them, even ammo. Their response has been "you would have to go to Sportsman's". This review is in regards to the Coors location. My brother and I purchased the Yelp deal. From the get go when we arrived the employees were not friendly at all. When we visit the Cutler location we are always greeted warmly. We weren't even greeted at the Coors location. Once we finally got their attention and let them know we wanted to shoot we were taken to a different register where we presented the Yelp coupon. The manager didn't even know about Yelp and was extremely annoyed that we were trying to use a coupon. He kept moaning and grumbling about how he had no idea how to use it. He kept doing this and looking at us and it seemed like he was trying to get us to just say "oh forget it we will pay full price even though we paid $20 on Yelp already." We told him we wanted to use the coupon and he begrudgingly tried to call his boss or someone he couldn't find. Finally he asked Bear what to do. Bear was the only nice guy in the place it seemed and helped the manager use the coupon. We also had the coupon for a free machine gun rental but when mentioned it the manager literally acted like he didn't hear us. We figured he didn't want to try and figure out that coupon. The manager took our IDs to the other counter so we could fill out the waivers. He just set our stuff down and walked off. I guess he was done with us. But he didn't tell the other cashier what he had done so we were again asked for our IDs and to pay. We advised that we paid and that our IDs were on the counter. The cashier seemed extremely irritated. We finally got our targets and our lanes. The cashier advised us to take our cases to the firing line, uncase our firearms at the line and leave them at the line. So I did just that. I had two long guns and two pistols. I placed my long guns on the floor unloaded facing downrange and the pistols on the bench unloaded facing downrange. I fired a mag out of my rifle and my brother set up to do the same. The cashier came running out and told us we had too many guns out and that I had to put all but one in a case and when I wanted to shoot another gun I would have to bring the case back up to the line and put one gun back and take another out. I have not once ever had to do something like this. Even at the cities outdoor range. However we obliged. The people next to us had several guns on their bench. Nobody said anything to them. My brother fired at the target with my rifle. The guy watched him do it then again approached very annoyed telling him that the target was too close and the rounds were messing up his floor. If you have been there you can see that from 10 yards out the floor is painted copper from so many rounds hitting the floor. To insinuate that we were purposefully shooting at the ground to damage the concrete was a bit absurd. However, we oblidged. After a while we had shot a few hundred rounds and the ground had a nice buildup of spent casings. So I stopped shooting and looked through the glass to see all of them intently watching my brother and I. As if waiting for the next thing to come running in to tell scold us for. I asked for a broom. I got another "oh great" look from the cashier as he rolled his eyes. I obviously interrupted their conversation. If you have shot there you know it can get extremely hot in the range. Because of this I was sweating and my safety glasses kept fogging up. So while waiting for the broom I stepped back by the glass and stood under the AC vent and took my glasses off to wipe them off. Can't shoot safely if I can't see. As I did this the guy came out with the broom. He immediately scolded me for taking my glasses off. I told him I would be happy to sweep my stall and my brothers and he said he would do it with an extremely annoyed tone. Once he was done we decided to shoot a few more rounds and leave. So we did. Overall we felt unwelcome and felt like they were treating us like if were were bumbling rednecks that had never shot before in our life. I have been shooting since I was a child and am well versed on firearm safety. We did not appreciate being treated like children and being watched over by someone just looking for anything to point out about what we were doing. Not once did we break any firearm or range safety rules. Overall a very poor experience from a customer service standpoint. Such a poor experience we will drive further to go to the Cutler location where we have always had a great experience. When we left only Bear thanked us for coming by and said to have a nice day. Although there were several other employees in passing on the way out. The only reason they get a two star is because it is a nice facility. But again the customer service is severely lacking at this location. read more

Calibers is an over priced gun store, but they keep a lot in stock. I was looking for some .50 bmg target rounds, so I called the store before driving there. The guy that I spoke with on the phone said that they have some but they are for use in their rental gun. I asked if they would sell me 3 boxes (10 rounds in a box), and he told me that he could do 3 boxes for $49.99 each. Its only $5 more per box than what I've seen around town. That's not an unreasonable price so I went to get them. When I arrived at Calibers, I looked at the ammo and didn't see any .50 cal. An employee asked if I needed help and I told him what I was looking for. He said that they don't sell them normally that they are for the rental gun. I told him that I had called earlier and talked to an employee and was told they would sell me 3 boxes. This employee said ok and went and got the 3 boxes for me. Upon his return, another employee stopped him to ask if I was renting their gun to shoot. The first employee told the second that I was not, that I was just going to buy the ammo. The second employee told him to wait while he went to check with someone else. The second employee returned and said it was fine. The second employee was the one that began to ring me up at the cash register. He made the comment, "This was going to be expensive." I said, "Yeah, the guy on the phone said $49.99 a box." The second employee that was ringing me up said that he was going to have to charge me $10 a round. I told him again what the guy on the phone told me. The cashier said that he was charging me $10 a round with a little bit of an attitude. I said that I wasn't going to do that and walked out. To me, $10 was an obscene amount for FMJ American Eagle. On line it goes for a little under $4 a round. $4-$5 a round is normal in town. Hornady AMax is $7 a round at Sportsman's. Because of the cashier's attitude and price gouging , I will never step foot in that store again. My military buddies and I shoot quite often and know that Calibers is not the first stop for ammo. I'll be sure not to recommend Calibers to any airmen that I know who are interested in getting into shooting. I usually keep my purchases locally unless I'm making a bulk order, but I'm not willing to pay $300 for 30 rounds of ammo. This place has gone down the tubes !!. Merchandise is WAY marked up..Optics 200% over Amazon prices. Store is a poorly lite dirty mess. Some of the staff has an arrogant air about them (despite the pot bellies). And they talk down to people even though I know more about what they're talking about. Guess I've just been spoiled at Rio Rancho Armory and some of the smaller gun stores on the westside. Don't get me started on the "Gunsmith" with an severe attitude problem...But he knows everything so don't ask him any questions or he'll show you the door...because its "what he does for a living". Despite saying its normal for 308 round to jam in a rifle with the gas system turned off.(grenade launcher setting)... He's oblivious and arrogant. HORRIBLE customer skills and shouldn't be working "for a living" in the customer service industry. Calibers, keep your junk, I'll go elsewhere. read more

It would be nice to have a shelf to place my belongings on so I wouldn't have to lay them on the floor. They have everything you need there incase you forgot an item. read more

The combination range/retail store on Cutler Ave. is a great facility poorly managed. My wife and I placed orders for a Benelli shotgun as well as a SIG Sauer rifle and pistol shortly before "Fire Armageddon". The purchasing manager lost the orders, and was eventually replaced. Even with these excuses, the orders were poorly managed, and it took over a year for them to arrive. When they did, they came with several other examples of the same weapons for retail sale. The retail guns were immediately put on sale at a discount, while we got the privilege of paying more after waiting for over a year. Feelin' the love there. I joined the range (with a slight group discount from the pricy annual sum of $349) specifically because I wanted to continue taking weekly lessons from the instructor who had taught my CCW permit course. For three years (both at the old facility - now closed - at Holly Ave. and the new range at Cutler Ave.) the relationship between my instructor (a contractor not paid by Calibers) and the management was amicable. Over the past few months though, management has been increasingly obstructive to the point of effectively shutting out our group of skilled, knowledgeable and safety oriented, not to mention well-spending, shooters. The excuses management have relayed to us have been late and contradictory; "It's insurance...you need a safety inspection from our staff...you need to cough up $800 dollars per session to reserve the range..." most of it relayed through the (excellent, underpaid) counter staff who had nothing to do with the decisions. Obstructions have included lane limits, no dedicated side of the range for our group as we've enjoyed in the past, and no shooting in front of the line - our group typically has 18 members, or more than they have lanes let alone customers on a Thursday night. When we've complained in the past, the restrictions have been lifted with no mention of insurance or lost revenue. The best we can figure as a group (because management refuses to deal with us directly) is that Calibers management no longer wants any training occurring at their range not under their direct control, especially by instructors more skilled than theirs. So, given their poor performance in both gun sales and management of training and the range, I would rather be boiled in a vat of my own gastric juices than patronize Calibers again. I would rather have my balls pounded flat with a mallet. I've got more, but you get the idea. I was a member of Calibers for 4 years, but have recently cut up my membership card and will no longer frequent the establishment. I can tentatively recommend Mags indoor range in Moriarty as a replacement. It's a little longer drive, but they don't seem to be managed by megalomaniacs. For retail sales, Mags, Sportsman's Warehouse, Ron Peterson or on-line retailers will give you better service than Calibers. read more

After a year of being a customer of calibers I thought it would be good to update my review to be a little more comprehensive and specific to the variety of services and goods Calibers offers their clientele. 1. Store - Good selection of firearms and accessories at fair prices that they frequently restock. I bought my Glock 17 and a number of accessories as needed. They purchase used firearms as well, but do not necessarily offer the best price in town. 2. Customer Service - Their staff as a combined unit contain a huge array of skills and knowledge. The guys working the counter are easy to talk to, friendly, kind, and eager to help out if you have any questions. If they are unsure of the answer, there is undoubtedly someone on their team is can. As a new shooter and as a woman, I was always addressed and spoken to with the utmost respect and attention. I get a lot of disrespect from men at other stores, from being ignored to spoken to like a child. I cannot give enough praise to the level of professionalism the staff at Calibers has, especially towards women and new shooters. 3. Gunsmithing - Josh is fantastic. I've had him work on a few of my firearms and he always does a fantastic job. He's a great guy to talk to, very knowledgeable, and was able to make great recommendations for me based on issues I had with my firearms. Every modification I have had him make was worth every penny and more in terms of performance improvement. 4. Indoor Range - The range is fantastic here. The temperature is always comfortable, air circulates nicely, and someone is always helping to clear brass out of the way. I'm not a fan of unkept indoor ranges that have piles of brass everywhere. These guys are awesome at keeping it maintained well at any given time of day. The price is steep at $20/person/day ($15 for a 2nd shooter), but women get 50% off on Thursdays and everyone gets that deal on Monday nights. Targets are set on rails with various distances that max out at 25 yards. A few things that could be better is the lighting at less than 7 yards is a little dark at times, especially if you have an extremely small target at this distance to hit. Holster draw is prohibited without a "draw card" that you get through their trainers and must be supervised during a small window of time. Given the liability and safety concerns, I do understand the need to restrict holster drawing, but it would have been nice to practice my draw and fire drills at my leisure without restriction. Again, service is king here and what's nice is any time I had a question while practicing, I could simply step out and ask and someone would come by to help if needed. Great people and great range. It's an ideal place for a new shooter to get introduced to firearms. (Rentals are also widely available at $10/$20/$30 for handgun/rifle/machine gun. As per industry standard, you must purchase their ammo to use with their guns. If you bring your own firearms, you may either bring your own ammo or purchase theirs. Eye and Ear protection also available to rent while there. \) 5. Classes - to date I've taken the Handguns 101 for Women class and AR-15 Intro class with Jimmy Creed. These classes were excellent in presentation, pacing, understanding, multiple learning style applications, and live fire practices. The education goes a long way in reviewing the key elements of firearms that every shooter should know by heart in a very structured format. The difference between a knowledgeable friend or family member teaching you the basics and a certified instructor is organization, experience, and standards. They won't miss things that are critical to your learning. I can't recommend these classes enough. 6. Personal Training - I've been lucky enough afford personal training at Calibers (15-20 hours on pistol, 5-10 on rifle). I evolved from my initial goal of "don't kill myself accidentally with my gun" to refining my skills for competitive shooting. Calibers employs several highly certified instructors, but I have kept my training with Jimmy Creed specifically as I find his teaching style very easy to understand, patient, and effective. The one-on-one training is very affordable and you get so much more than what you can get in a class. The one-on-one attention means you are watched closer for mistakes, improvements, unsafe habits, and limits confusion that may occur in a larger class size. You also get the entire range to yourself. This afford you the ability to train in unique environments like low lighting, cover, unusual positions, multiple target acquisition, etc etc. When I am practicing on the range on my own, I get compliments on my level of control, confidence, precision, and accuracy. Many are shocked at the level of pistol skill I am able to exercise despite having shot for less than a year. This 100% comes from the investment I made to get trained by Jimmy Creed.
