A year and a half after I started working with Calibuilder, I'm glad that we worked with them, and satisfied with the final result. I would gladly refer them to our friends who want to remodel or build a custom home. For background, we have been working with a full service architecture studio to renovate and extend our home. The project architect had many nice ideas and thoughtful designs, and we were looking for a reasonably priced contractor who could (and would be willing to) communicate with a detail-oriented architect. We had already tried a contractor that, while reasonably priced, had difficulty and unwillingness to communicate with the architect and follow their guidelines. Alternative contractors who had experience with full service architects were either 50-100% more expensive or had a very long wait time to start or finish the house. When Ramin, the CEO of CaliBuilder was introduced to us, he understood and appreciated the custom and artful nature of our project from the get-go. He was passionate about good design, and loved all the details provided by the architect, viewing it as an advantage to reduce ambiguity in planning and execution of the project. The project architect was also very happy with the open communication style, responsiveness, and the fact that when facing an issue they would reach out to the architect with a "Request For Information", as opposed to deciding and executing on their own. All this was at the same time as providing an affordable price, a flexible timeline, and a commitment to finish the project on-time. The project was staffed almost round the clock, with various crews and subcontractors working in parallel as long as they were able to not step on each other's toes. CaliBuilder accepts a handful of projects in the Bay Area at any time, therefore their very nice site supervisor (Ari) can dedicate a good amount of high quality management for each project. CaliBuilder's awesome finish supervisor (Azeen) also spends high quality time on the job site, working with their crew and the architect to understand and execute on every detail of the project. Both Ari and Azeen have great rapport with their crew and have a good sense of what could be delegated to them and what needs their deeper involvement at the execution time. As with any construction project, there are always imperfections and mistakes. What matters is the ability of the builder to understand the reason for issues and take immediate remedial steps. CaliBuilder was great in this regard too. For example, when the newly installed Heat Pump malfunctioned on a cold winter Friday evening, they took immediate action, dispatching their crew to investigate and address the issue. CaliBuilder demonstrated their commitment to addressing raised issues throughout the project. To help with a smooth execution, here's my advice to the future clients of CaliBuilder: Make sure you communicate with the team (architect + builder) often, and respond to their questions early. Also make sure material is available and stored properly well in advance. Not blocking the crew is CaliBuilder's key to an affordable and high quality execution. If you are building a custom home, work with your architect and CaliBuilder to distinguish "typical" work vs "custom/uncommon" work, so everyone can be on the same page about sequencing and details of the work. For example, everyone knows how to sheetrock, mud, and paint a wall. So no specific sequencing guidance is needed. But if you are installing a light fixture or ceiling cladding that is not commonly installed, it's important to work as a team to ensure that subs/crew get the sequencing right. Trust the builder if they are asking you to stay away from certain materials or methods. They know their crew and subs the best. Work with the architect to find alternatives that the builder is comfortable with. Don't push with time. If the project is behind schedule for any reason, work with CaliBuilder to get an updated estimate of completion. But don't push your builder to change their practices and have many crews work at the same time. Out of the "time, quality, cost" triangle, you can only optimize two. Overall, I'm very happy that we had the opportunity to work with CaliBuilder, wish them success, and look forward to seeing their future projects.

We had a very good tenant for 23 years in this 1bdrm/1bthrm unit at Woodlake. When he moved out, it was time to do a complete renovation. After interviewing 10 different contractors, there were only two really worth trusting with this project. I chose CaliBuilder because they demonstrated a keen eye for the work that needed to be accomplished and took the time to understand what I wanted. They were willing to work with my budget, and even though hidden problems were later discovered which increased the final cost, they were willing to work with us and change the work order with reasonable adjustments. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Azeen in particular. She is a project manager that stays on top of the work, jumps in when needed to follow-up on details, communicates as frequently as needed to make sure we're making the right decisions. She maintains a healthy leadership role with her various crews, and they respond readily to her directives, so I found not only the efficiency but the quality of work being done to be quite impressive. I highly recommend CaliBuilder for any remodel or renovation. We have additional projects down the road and will happily be calling them again. My review is without compensation; I believe great talent should be supported and businesses that operate with professionalism and integrity deserve to flourish. Everyone is blessed by businesses that are honest, respectful and highly competent. Thank you CaliBuilder for being a beacon of good business.

Calibuilder is helping me with major renovations on a two unit property I recently purchased. I couldn't have asked for better partners on this journey. Not only are they trusted advisors but I now consider the whole team friends. Ramin, Azeen, and Arash are knowledgeable, honest, and overall great people. Throughout the entire process they've demonstrated that they have my best interests in mind. Built in 1911, my property was in pretty bad shape. I interviewed 5 contractors (narrowed down from a list of 10 from yelp reviews, referrals, etc.) before making my decision. My primary selection criteria were price, vision/expertise, and someone who'd be a true partner. Overall costs were an important factor. Calibuilder was competitively priced- not the cheapest, nor most expensive option. Construction is not my field of expertise so most important to me was having a true partner. I needed someone I could trust and lean on. That's exactly what I got with Calibuilder starting with my first meeting with Ramin. He listened to my thoughts and provided recommendations and multiple options. As can be expected when working with such an old building, there were some surprises and bumps along the way. We overcame these because the communication was really great. Again, I always felt that they were trying to do what was best for me. Some before and after pics of the first unit are included. I will update this review when the second unit and exterior is complete. First unit is within budget and everyone that has seen it has raved about how beautiful it turned out!

    Bad framing? Or bad installation?

I really wanted to leave a stellar review for Calibuilder. I really did. But I didn't have a stellar experience. I wish I had the same experience as some of the other reviewers. Sure, he uses slack and other techy ways of communicating other contractors don't use... but I had issues reaching him when there were questions that needed to be answered. There was bad communication throughout the project, last minute messages to me about material I needed to get (as opposed to the scheduling another reviewer noted) and communications between myself to Ramin, then from him to the foreman that didn't get passed along. Perhaps my experience would have been different if, as promised upfront, Ramin would have brought in qualified tradesmen for each aspect of my project. Maybe if he would have used the tradesmen that came in to bid on different aspects of my project I wouldn't have had the issues I had. My new (squeaky, bowing under my weight) stairs only a couple months old that weren't installed properly, because maybe Ramin wanted to save a few bucks and paid his foreman to do them instead of the floor guy that bid on it. This was typical of my entire project. Two guys (expertise = framing, per the project manager) basically did the entire job (excluding tile guys). No floor guys coming in. No electricians. No plumbers. No painters. They would all come in to bid on the work, but I never saw them again. Just the two guys from start to finish. I can only assume he got a better deal to do the work from his foreman and his laborer. Of course this meant lackluster results in the fine touches needed for the finishing aspect of a job. Several rounds of me putting blue tape pointing out issues. Several rounds of the same guys coming to fix them. Until I complained hard enough at the end of the project they sent A painter to actually get some straight lines or fix the cracking crown moulding that looked like it was found in someone else's scrap yard and reused on my project, or a qualified tile guy to fix the fireplace tiles the foreman broke, or someone else to replace the new cabinet drawer fronts the foreman damaged while installing handles and tried to hide.... and then damaged again when replacements came in. Not to mention the windows that were placed incorrectly based on the blueprint, or a french door that I need to slam to close. So many things keep me from wanting to leave a good review. I really wanted to. But I didn't have a great experience. Final straw for me leaving this review is my stairs were installed by someone who doesn't know what he is doing. This was pointed out by a professional floor guy that came out to see what the problem was only 3 months after my job was done. He pointed out wedge supports placed underneath stairs with finishing nails holding them in place, gaps between stair tread and risers, nails that shouldn't be used for finishing and 1/4 round trim that was hiding all of these imperfections. He told me "this is faulty installation and should have been addressed during installation" . Refusal to fix these issues (not a problem with the stair framing, as verified by the floor guy that came out) is unacceptable. Sending the same guy that installed them and is not qualified to do such a job to fix his work is not acceptable. Calling out "bad framing" AFTER I complained about squeaky, bowing steps with gaps and construction nails going through a stair tread and covered up is not good business, when this is something that should have been pointed out DURING installation. At the very least, it shows poor quality of work, lack of project managing, and attention to detail. Also, setting a payment schedule, then asking for money before that scheduled payment so you can pay your guys is totally unprofessional and bad business. I haven't even gone into the other aspects... cutting/installing sheetrock and not walling off the existing part of the house we are trying to live in, coming home to a cloud of dust, everything covered in sheetrock dust, my 4 year olds toys, our couches, furniture, etc.... The fence that blew down this last storm because they didn't replace it back to it's original state when they were done...I could go on and on.

I (regretfully) did not end up moving forward with them on this project, but wanted to write a review because I was so thoroughly impressed with my interactions with Doron. Doron was the first contractor that I spoke with about my project, and was by far the best experience that I had. He took the time to really look at my space, listened to my needs and specific requests, and gave great suggestions on how I could improve it. After taking measurements he sat down with me for over an hour patiently answering all of my questions. This was my first time considering a major remodel and he was great at anticipating where I would need guidance. He also showed me various completed projects in his portfolio and I was so impressed with the quality of his work. I could tell that he really takes pride in his team and his craftsmanship. Doron was able to provide me with an initial quote on the same day as our consultation. I ended up with further questions and changes, and he graciously set up a zoom call with me to address them the following day. Out of all the contractors that I spoke with, Doron stuck out for being the most passionate about his work and also the most detail oriented. I really appreciated his honesty with me about what I could reasonably expect. As this was my first project, I didn't have a good idea on what to expect regarding costs. I didn't end up moving forward with Method Remodeling because of my budget, but would love to work with them in the future when I am better established.

He answered all our questions and helped us choose what would work best for our home and budget. From there, everything moved smoothly. The permitting took around three weeks, and construction was finished in about two and a half months, right on schedule and with no surprises. We also want to mention Adrian, the designer, who was such a pleasure to work with. He helped us choose all the materials and finishes while staying within our budget. His eye for design and attention to detail made the whole process so much easier and enjoyable. The combination of functionality and style he brought to the project made a huge difference. Throughout the whole process, the crew was respectful, clean, and very professional. They paid attention to every little detail, and it really shows in the final result. Overall the experience was very good; Elijah and Bryan were super friendly and responsive. Eli was very patient and accommodating as we discussed several different potential change orders, from new windows to painting, to other misc. things that popped up. Bryan Luna was especially a pleasure to work with. His attention to detail and proactivity to solve any little thing I mentioned was definitely the highlight of working with Prime. Their contracted electrician, Hector, was great as well. I also think they did a great job building out a cabinet to fit our freezer next to the matching fridge. Their master carpenter managed to salvage our existing wood to make it match perfectly. Definitely better than what I'd expect from even a carpentry specialty contractor. I will mention that it wasn't without some snags. Prime deals in volume so they're very busy. I think because I had delays in sourcing a freezer I ended up not getting a dedicated project manager for some time. We had timeline issues made worse with holidays. This caused cascading delays which inevitably pushed back my move in date a few weeks. When I finally did get a new project manager, they ghosted me (later on I found out they had a family emergency). Eli had to step in again to help. Another thing is that their pricing is quite opaque. The estimate will break down prices by milestones, but they repeated told me that it's not a valuation of the milestone itself. This made it nigh impossible to understand if I wanted to contract out specific pieces of the project (e.g. flooring). Design was OK. I felt that the designer was very busy. Sometimes very responsive (5min replies), sometimes not responsive at all (no reply). I wish I had a better, more thorough back-and-forth session about the intricacies of the design. But we made do. Ultimately, the designer made a render and helped point us to some vendors, but from there we had to make our own selection alone (cabinets, handles, pendant lights, faucets, etc.). I did appreciate her presence when we picked out countertops, though. All in all, I think this was a 4.5 star job, but I'm rounding to 5 because of Eli and Bryan :)

All prior interior work in our house had been done by handyman. I really appreciated the communication from our project manager Marc. He created a WhatsApp chat with me and the incredible designer Jocelyn. They were both consistently responsive to any of my questions or concerns -- and opened my mind to design options. Jocelyn spent time in our home, drafted plans, took me shopping, and sourced all the fixtures. From her spreadsheet I was able to find less expensive options for some items. I appreciated the input and control I had on these expenses. Since we needed to move out, I had a tight timeline for the project -- mid October until Thanksgiving. Marc and the team did their best despite City of San Jose delays with inspections. We were able to move back in before the final inspection. Every member of the team was kind and courteous. Marc also did a great job working with the window vendor that specializes in older homes. I'm rating the experience a 4.5 out of 5 for two reasons. I was disappointed that the medicine cabinet, switch plates, and hooks were initially installed unevenly (it was corrected). I expected more attention to detail. And I was disappointed in the wear & tear that happened on my wood floors as well as the overall dust in my dining room. I was warned that things would get dusty -- but didn't understand the extent and would have packed away more things. WISE offers lots of support with design -- they could also offer as part of their package a full cleaning! I offer this feedback to help others calibrate their expectations. Overall it was a positive experience. I waited several months to post this review until I returned from travel and could see how things were settling after regular use. I'm loving the new bathroom and recommend WISE.

When confronted, he agreed to give us our money back but has failed to make the full payment after 9 months. He also forged our signature to pull permits because he doesn't hold a license himself. We hired Will (aka Wisal) in October 2024 for a fairly large home project, and it was an absolute nightmare. The ordeal he put us through was an extremely emotionally taxing experience for our family. On top of that, he had not honored the refund agreement for the poor and incomplete work. We are now out of the money he still owes us, and we had to find another contractor to correct the terrible work he and his "team" did. Here were the main issues that led us to fire him from our project: 1. Forged Signature: We discovered that Will pulled permits under my name without permission by forging my signature on the paperwork, which he initially told us was pulled under his company's name. 2. Suspicious Electrical Work: Before the scheduled electrical inspection, Will had his team patch up the walls, which would make it impossible to inspect the wires. We found this suspicious, so we asked 4 separate electricians to take a look. Without being able to see behind the walls, they all saw that the work was not up to code. 3. Unnecessary Electrical Upgrade: We told Will we only wanted to rewire the house and to pull the permits. He told us we're required to upgrade our electrical panel. This caused a 3-month delay as we waited for PG&E to do the work. When PG&E responded to us, they told us we actually didn't need the upgrade. We suspect this was Will's attempt to charge us for unnecessary work. 4. Pressured To Pay Upfront: He pressured us to pay upfront for fees associated with the PG&E work (e.g. trenching fees, paving fees, etc). In California, you only need to make a downpayment of up to 10% or $1000 of the total contract price, whichever is less 5. Overpaid PG&E Fees: Will charged us $3,500 for PG&E's engineering advance. We asked PG&E about the charge and were told it was only $2,500. 6. Inconsistent Team: His "team" changed all the time. Will also did not seem to know when his team would work on our house. It was only when we checked and saw that either minimal or no work was done that he would then call his team to ask why they didn't show up. 7. Constant Delays: Will would promise us work would be done by a certain time (e.g. end of the week), but those deadlines were rarely met. For example, he told us the week of February 18th that interior painting and tiling work would be completed by the end of the week. By the time we fired him on the last week of March, that work was still not done. 8. Unprofessional Work: For basic jobs like painting, his team did not cover our floors. We now have paint splatters, scratches, and drywall residue all over our floors and cabinets. After all these issues, we fired Will and demanded a refund, which he agreed to pay on a 7-week schedule. That was back in April of 2025. It's January 2026, and he still has yet to pay us back fully. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs. P.S. If none of the above points convince you to stay away from this business, run some of the 5-star reviews through an AI detector. Many of them won't pass. I wouldn't trust a business with fake reviews. Would you?

We were in a bit of a time crunch, planning to leave for a three-week holiday trip, and let's be real--it does rain in SF in December. Will assured us he'd take care of everything. Roof? Fixed. Ceiling? Restored. Peace of mind? Oh, how naive I was. Red Flag #1: The Mysterious Bathroom Leak One of the first things Will did was open up the ceiling--toward the upstairs bathroom. Now, I had explained, multiple times, that the leak happened after rain. Yes, there had been a small issue last winter, but it was clearly a rain-related problem. Still, Will was on a fishing expedition, hoping to uncover a more "profitable" issue. He eventually convinced me the entire roof needed replacing. I wasn't entirely sure, but hey, the roof was old. Maybe it was time? Spoiler: It was not time. It was a terrible decision. Red Flag #2: The Roofer Who Hates His Job The very next day, a roofer showed up to apply a temporary patch. He was barely inside when he launched into a rant about how Will had been delaying his payments for weeks and how he was planning to quit and work on his own. Now, a contractor's own workers bad-mouthing him before work even starts? That's a neon sign flashing "run" in bright red letters. But between holiday prep and wishful thinking, I convinced myself it would be fine. It was not fine. Red Flag #3: The Disappearing Act We left for the holidays. Will started work in January. I had set up cameras to monitor progress. It was a different roofer - I guess the first one has already quit. Three days before we returned, Will declared the job was done and demanded full payment. I got a few blurry, low-resolution pictures (classic), but on my cameras, I could still see workers moving around. Assuming they were just wrapping up (bad assumption), I wired the money. Terrible. Idea. The Disaster Unfolds Upon returning, I did what any responsible homeowner would do--I climbed up to inspect the work. Oh. My. God. Where do I even begin? Even without being a roofing expert, I could tell this was a train wreck. There were literal holes in my brand-new roof. You know, the thing meant to keep water out. I had a contractor neighbor take a look. Then, I brought in a few proper roofers. They all independently painted the same picture: total incompetence. Some highlights from my roof's tragic new look: The roofing material wasn't properly heat-sealed, meaning large sections could be peeled off by hand. Other parts were over-torched, melting the material and making it brittle. The seals around pipes? Instead of using proper metal flashings and sealants (as is standard), they smeared on some mystery black goo. Around chimneys and walls, instead of applying material properly, they just stuck it on without capping--essentially creating pockets for water collection. Drainage system? Not sealed at all. As if they just assumed water would avoid those spots out of respect. At this point, my frustration had reached Olympic levels. Red Flag #4: Will's "Fix" Was Even Worse I confronted Will, who eventually agreed to send someone to "fix" things. Enter Victor Hernandez, a supposed "partner" of Will's. I asked if he was licensed. Will assured me he was. Victor assured me he was. Fast forward through some back and forth, Victor himself admitted the roof was beyond repair (shocker). So, naturally, Will's solution was... to have Victor re-roof it. Because clearly, the guy whose company just butchered my roof was the right person for a do-over. When I asked what system they'd be using, it was total confusion. They claimed they'd heat-glue the roof but showed me materials meant for cold application. These guys didn't even understand the product they were using. So I asked for Victor's credentials. Nothing. No response. So I did my own digging. Guess what? Victor's license (#1071828) was suspended. He had no roofing license. His general contractor license was revoked due to a lawsuit. I confronted Will. After some discussion, he agreed to pay me back and part ways. Guess what? That didn't happen either as of now. And Then It Got Even Worse... It's been four weeks since that agreement. I'm still owed $9000. No payments. And just when I thought it couldn't get worse--it got worse. Before I had the chance to redo the roof, one of the drainages (the ones they didn't bother to seal) leaked and flooded my baby's room. So let's recap: Replaced a roof that probably didn't need replacing. Got scammed out of $9000. Ended up with more damage than when I started. Flooded my kid's room.

They also discovered dry rot and mold growth on multiple stories of my house that likely resulted from the leaks. They were able to quickly and efficiently repair the leak, open up the drywall to repair all the mold damage, and then replace the drywall and repaint/retexture the wall. Oh, they stayed on to re-deck my aged and rotting wood deck with some modern synthetic decking. Yes, quite a bit of repair work, yet all done within a couple of weeks. Well, it's been about two years since they've done this work and I'm sitting in this season's first major rainstorm thankful that the repair work has been holding quite well. Thanks to Alex, Ilya, and their hardworking crew for the excellent repair work. Regarding the original windows that I needed repaired, well, that turned out to be more complicated. Fortunately, Ilya and Alex were good on their commitment to complete the job until the leaking completely stopped. Yes, what a relief now that the rainy weather has picked up again this winter. In summary, easy to work with, fast, versatile, wide range of services, committed.

He was at my house the next day spent most of the day replacing and perfecting the wood so it matched the surrounding frame - really cared about doing a good job. And the cost was reasonable. As far as United Pro Handyman Service, pleasantly surprised that they got back to me the very day I called them about my job. I can't say that about other handyman services on Yelp. I will definitely be using their service again and will recommend them to others.
