Today I had the privilege of visiting CBU. I must confess that when I first caught a glimpse of the school as I was exiting the freeway, I was a little apprehensive, fearing that the classes would be housed in some type of office building because all I saw was the parking garage. OMG, was I wrong!! The campus is breathtakingly beautiful, reminiscent of California Lutheran University, a place that I absolutely adore. The stunning architecture, picturesque gardens, and majestic trees create a serene ambiance. The friendly and helpful individuals strolling around campus, the students socializing, engaging, and beaming with joy, all contribute to a campus culture that resonates deeply with our family values. Having had the privilege of traveling back and fourth to CLU for the past 11 years watching CM achieve his Bachelor's and a Master's, and AM having earned his BA with a masters in cyber security and is about to achive a second Master's degree, the prospect of looking for a new university for them to pursue a PhD is daunting; because we are all involved so deeply at Cal Lutheran. However, the possibility of embracing CBU as new academic home for the next five years is undeniably exhilarating. OMG, this is truly an electrifying prospect!! read more

RUN!!!! from this school. It is overpriced and not worth the hype. You would be better off attending a California State University. The FNP program, specifically, has been a mess. It is very unorganized, and while they promise to help students find clinical sites, you are often left to find your own. When you need support, the FNP director is not helpful. I regret ever enrolling in this school. Do yourself a favor and ask current students if they are happy with the program. Many are not. I am extremely disappointed with my experience at this school. Attending a graduation ceremony at the Fowler events center. Closest entrance will be from 91fwy exit Adams st. Head north & left on Lancer Lane. Parking structure to the left of entrance. Ask attendants which areas are reserved for handicap will need to show placard, fills up fast. Golf cart parking attendants available to escort elderly guests to front door. Elevator/escalators and stairs required for upper level seating. Wheelchair & walkers on ground level. Only CBU approved leis can be worn during the ceremony. Pop up tents for Lei and flower sales at main entrance. $35 for kukui nut leis, $50 for orchid leis. Orchids are only allowed to be worn if pre purchased before graduation day. A handful were available at the tables outside the main entrance but sold out before the ceremony started. Tap to pay. Sash, tassel & diploma frame bundles are available for purchase at the campus store. Campus restaurants close earlier on graduation day call to check times. Campus staff were helpful and informative. Well organized with the herds of families and friends gathering to take part in the ceremonies of loved ones. Beautiful facilities, well organized to celebrate all the graduates. read more

I did a campus tour here and this campus is absolutely beautiful. They have so much to offer students and have a D1 athletics program. Their cafeteria is a buffet and offers great food with a dessert bar and a salad bar. read more

I was a student at California Baptist University for over 10 years and just five classes away from graduating. Despite that, I've experienced some of the worst treatment and support, particularly as a disabled Latina student. When I tried to return and finish my degree, I followed CBU's instructions to raise my GPA at a community college (which I've done -- I now have a 3.5). I reached out for help about readmission, GPA calculations, and transfer credit questions, but instead of support, I was ignored, misinformed, and eventually blocked from contacting the school altogether. I reached out to: * Dr. Steve Neilsen, who repeatedly dismissed my concerns and eventually issued a threat of legal action simply for asking about re-entry * Grace Brown, who never followed up on academic support or guidance * attempts to meet with leadership Multiple departments that sent me in circles or failed to respond at all * Left voicemails, emails -- all without resolution The final response? I received a "cease and desist" letter from CBU's legal counsel, Adam Burton, just for inquiring about how to return and finish my last five classes. This, after years of tuition paid and receiving disability services on campus. Instead of grace, I was met with threats. This is not the Christ-centered support they promote. If you're a student with a disability or come from a marginalized background, do not expect this university to stand by you when things get hard. Horrible expeience attending. The school is so busy telling you how great they are, but they aren't. I was in the education credential. Most of the teachers are part time and waist your classtime playing stupid games, while not explaning at all how to complete the assignments, which you are left to figure out on your own. And many of the teachers if you ask questions about the assignments, just give you a bad time and make you feel small. They don't make you feel that they are at all interested in your success. I don't where Christ is but he is not at this school. Save you money and go to a state college. read more

First time visiting this private Christian university. Very nice campus and very clean. There's security gate at each entrance to ensure a safe environment. Plenty of parking and students in their electronic scooters or bikes. School colors are navy blue and gold. They have on site cafe called Wanda's that has good and reasonably priced food as well as their dining hall/commons. read more

It's like a diamond in the rough. A beautiful campus in the middle of a large city. It also provides a Christian atmosphere that my daughter is thriving in. So many activities and opportunities provided each week. You can stay busy, find amazing friends and get assistance from professors with ease. I highly recommend CBU! I am an alumni from classes of '17 & '21. After receiving my undergraduate in Psychology, I then applied for graduate school eventually receiving my masters in Strategic Communication. At the beginning of my journey here, I was a traditional student turned hybrid to end up as online student. The experience I had was the best because I really felt as if each one of my professors genuinely cared if I was understanding & applying my work correctly. Professors will reach out & help keep you in the loop if they see there is a struggle. After hours help & online tutoring was readily available to me as well. For the first time in a classroom I felt seen. My professors knew my name & I wasn't in overcrowded classrooms. Counselors here are also amazing. The campus itself is absolutely stunning & peaceful. Plenty of parking, fairly simple campus to navigate, & quality education. Go Lancers ! read more

Expensive, relentless, terrible campus life, religious expectations contradictory. Religious Expectations. It is clearly stated that forced practicing of Christianity doesn't count. This is what CBU makes you do. I go to church every Sunday, practice at home, practice at my church, it is a part of my every day life. Now why do I need to take an hour out of the most valuable part of my learning day to go to chapel again? Usually I'd have no complaint, but it's just a loud rock concert with an actual only 30 minute testimony from a guest speaker. If you force people to attend, they are going to start resenting Christianity, similar to how many atheists were just kids forced to go to church when they were younger. Expensive. CBU is far beyond its own tastes when it comes to pricing. You pay top dollar to go to an Ivy-league school out of state so you can receive a top notch education. CBU has no more prestige to it than RCC or UCR right next to it. It is any other "anything goes" type college, and the pricing is incredibly high for such a sub-par time at a nameless institution. Campus life. I'll give it to them that the food is nice, but the campus is terribly bland for, once again, the incredibly high pricing. The dorms are of course cookie cutter (not that much college dorms aren't) but the campus itself is terribly bland. The walkways, main campus, lawns, and other outdoor areas really show this schools age, and not in a good way. Everywhere is unappealing and boring and no more exciting than a community dog park. The entire atmosphere is "okey-dokey" and you'll never find yourself having more than an okayish time at any of the schools activities. Relentless. I am in the aviation program. Going to CBU is the worst decision I've ever made. The classwork is confusing and always scattered. I have 20 different tabs open checking daily to even find what homework needs to be done. Something always gets passed at least once a week too. The course material is extremely backwards, and you never know what to focus on. You will be confused on what needs to be studied before class tomorrow and the entire system could be much more streamline by converting the school to google classroom or canvas rather than the confusing mess that is blackboard. On a final note, they've baited me in by letting me tour the CBU post at the riverside airport. I got to see the new planes and nice buildings. However, when I got in, they told me that I would be flying out of Chino at their beat up satellite campus with the old barely airworthy planes from the late 60s to early 70s. They also messed up on my scheduling and moved me to Saturdays from 2-4PM. I do not want to drive to Chino on Saturdays at 2PM, they are my only break day from this nightmare of a school and now I can never spend more than 24 hours away from riverside where they are located. No weekend trips, no sleeping over, no road-trips. I leave Thursday evening, need to be back Saturday afternoon, then need to come back again Monday mornings every week until I leave. Great. Summary: Ivy League cost, community college education, not worth the time. read more

I was part of an online graduate degree program, and despite that, the professors and my advisor were amazing. The times I was able to be on campus were great. During the orientation, I got to tour the campus, which is very clean and well-kept. The buildings are a perfect mixture of modern and classic. read more

This is a miserable school. There are some of the weirdest teachers teaching at this school. Not always sure if this school was always like this. Honestly, I do not recommend this school to any serious student, because they lack some serious empathy. They run circles around you in grading and explaining their point of view and in the end, nothing you do is satisfactory. The students aren't that helpful either and are pretty cold towards one another. If they aren't open to students point of view, when grading, then why are they a school? Much less, the teachers I'm pretty sure are underqualified in the way they teach the subject matter. School is seriously not a decent choice. read more

My daughter go to California Baptist University in Riverside. Her electric scooter got stolen even it was chained outside the door of the dorm where she live inside the campus. The scooter is 5 days old. The security safety services were alerted and file a report. The school did not do any action. We just learned that there were more incidents of stealing activities inside the campus including car stealing. During the orientation this is not mention to the incoming students so the new comers could be aware that there are individuals able to get into the school campus to steal scooters. read more

Easily accessible bathrooms. Totally enjoyable experience for my granddaughter's 11th birthday. Although I didn't eat, the kids enjoyed a variety of chicken tenders, fries and pop corn. Graduated from CBU in 2021 with a BA in psychology, so I was there while they persevered through the two years Covid-19 lockdown and so forth until graduation. (I've been there for both in person and online classes. They do great at adapting to unforeseen circumstances) I thought I'd wait a long time until writing a review though because I wanted to wait to see how my time spent at CBU might have impacted my future after graduation. I can now say with great satisfaction that CBU was incredibly formative in my professional, personal, and spiritual development. The school greatly encourages critical thought regarding building a sensibility to worldviews and spiritual reflection, which has helped tremendously in my current doctoral studies pursuit at Fuller Theological Seminary. Not a day goes by at Fuller where I'm not using everything I've absorbed and learned at CBU so I am very grateful. Some students at CBU dread chapel but let me say to present, prospective, and incoming students... Don't take chapel for granted. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn about and worship God. Don't take the assignments for granted especially when it involves spiritual reflection because such reflections are applicable to the present and the future. Overall I had an incredible time at CBU. The food is top notch especially at the alumni dining commons so you'll be sure you'll never go hungry there, spiritually or physically haha! The environment is so peaceful, and the staff is always ready to help. The student theater plays are absolutely stunning! There's plenty of student spiritual/personal growth experiences too like Urban Excursions, talk with the spiritual life office staff if you're interested. I recommend living on campus if possible since it gives an opportunity to really immerse yourself in the community. Out of all my past schooling experiences CBU has been the healthiest learning environment I've ever experienced. Honestly it felt like Disneyland every day, the happiest place on Earth except that it's a school. Student housing is fantastic too. There's some students who complain about the work, chapel, etc, but let me say, you get what you put in and you make what you will of your academic experience. We wanted private Christian colleges but as back up we went to UCSB,UCSD, San Diego State and Cal Poly SLO. The private schools are beautiful and clean and have an advantage over state schools. The schools class sizes are much smaller private schools and you get Personal attention so that knocked out all the state and UCs. My daughter wanted to stay in California. The Christian and Catholic schools we visit were USD, Chapman, Cal Baptist, Biola and Pepperdine. We also saw University of the Pacific. We narrowed it down to D1 Christian schools in California so USD Cal Baptist and Pepperdine. My daughter got Merit scholarships from all the schools and they were all private but the biggest one was Cal Baptist. My daughter was recruited to swim at all of but Cal Baptist gave us the best swim scholarship on top of merit scholarship. Of the three schools Cal Baptist had the best sports and the prettiest campus. We hadn't known about Cal Baptist before so it was really surprising to us. Even though I went to Pepperdine and my husband went to Chapman. My daughter decided on Cal Baptist. She got the best swim Scholarship from CAL Baptist. She has already met people from all over the world at Cal Baptist . We love the school. read more

I am a parent of a student and for me this university is one of the worst options for architecture!!! You pay and become an architect yourself. They cut short my daughter's dreams of wanting to be an architect. And we talked to the senior people at that faculty. so they could make a change and they didn't care. How do you expect a baby to be born knowing how to walk if you don't teach him to use her resources. In this case, they expect a student to perform well if you teach them how to use the work tools and all they do is saturate them with videos. Do it on your own instead of having qualified teachers to teach the students. and I'm almost sure that's how they do it in any other faculty within CBU university. Just be careful, not because of the money you may invest incorrectly when choosing this university, but because of the damage that your child may suffer from being poorly taught. read more

I went to CBU for 6 years and got 2 degrees. Most of the comments I have read seem off to me I didn't live on campus at all but the idea that the school raises tuition that part is true it was raised every single year I was there. The university itself is pretty nice they seem to be modernizing it they are making a real push towards better athletics. The comments on the hypocrisy of students on being believers in christ or not there were times where there were not Christians as students but most students are between 18-22 most people really haven't formed their beliefs by then or might not be open to about them. read more

I am a loyal Lancer. I graduated from CBU with my bachelors degree in psychology, and I'm now a few months away from graduating from CBU with my masters degree on counseling psychology with an MFT concentration. So my review might be slightly biased :p My experience at CBU has been absolutely wonderful. I love the Christian principles that are integrated into the classroom and displayed by both students and staff. The environment is positive and educational. The professors in the counseling program are amazing, and true followers of Christ. I can't imagine getting my education elsewhere. CBU is very expensive, but when it comes to your education it is definitely worth it! You don't want to get a degree and not be competent in your major. Many college students graduate and don't get a lot out of their degree. But at CBU the professors care about giving you the best education possible so that you can strive and succeed in life. There are many groups of study that vary in greatness. So do your research, and don't just come here based on the amount of money they throw at you.. My experience with the online courses at this university has been disheartening. The negligence of counselors has led to significant financial and emotional distress, as administrators and advisors overlook crucial elements. As a disabled student, the lack of support and additional barriers in my final class have been particularly challenging. The university's indifference to the well-being of online students is evident, with minimal check-ins throughout the semester, despite awareness of academic and emotional struggles. Having invested over $56,000 in FAFSA aid, and facing disqualification for private loans due to credit issues from student loans, the financial burden adds to the disappointment. This Christian university falls short of representing the pillars of empathy and equity, especially for students with disabilities. When I reached out to Steven Nelson and the president of CBU they threatened to take legal action since they refused to met with me . This university just fill their pockets with minorities tuition and then leads them for failure. read more

I LOVE CBU. I am a former student at CBU, I graduated in 2005 (BA) and 2009 (MS) I met my husband here and lifelong friends.... But I am here to talk about the Alumni Dining Commons....otherwise known as the caf. The caf is amazing. No wonder you put on several pounds during your studies there. On any given day you can get mexican food, pizza, salad bar, dessert bar, waffles, homestyle foods did I mention the waffles? They are so good- make one fresh and hot and your whole day could be better! I received my nursing degree here (which of course is the main thing) but I also made lifelong friends, met my husband here, and grew so much as a person. No university will be full of perfect people- just as no church is either, but I met so many wonderful, friendly people throughout my 4 years here. There are a million opportunities to grow yourself and connect with people. I was in student leadership, music, did a 2 month mission trip in Spain, had on campus jobs, and went to a myriad of on campus events. While every season has negative people or experiences, my time at CBU was overwhelmingly positive- but it's your responsibility to get out there and meet people and take advantage of all of the great things the community has to offer. If I could go back I would choose it all over again. I'm so proud to be CBU alum and will carry the memories I made here for the rest of my life. Lance up! read more
