The pros of this rescue: they pull Dogs on the euthanasia list and for that I have a ton of respect! They will tap into funds to get necessary items like fencing, baby gates, toys, etc. The communication piece is very lacking! I never received any real guidance and not a lot of communication about challenges that my foster dog was having. I asked for a phone conversation and was denied and pretty much just told to keep texting on the app. After my foster dog was picked up to go to training I asked about him and was totally shut down! My foster dog was with me for 10 days and I definitely grew attached to him and when I couldn't get him in the car to go to his vet appointment, I didn't know what to do. The training program came and picked him up, which I was super grateful for, but definitely felt blamed by the rescue. read more

I can't say enough great things about CA Bully Rescue. We just adopted a young pit bull girl and she is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! WOW! She is so very sweet, gentle, chill and intelligent, and a perfect fit for us. The foster mom gave us great info about her in advance, as did the adoption coordinator. In particular, I told the coordinator what we were looking for in a dog and what made our previous dog a great fit before he passed away. Everyone is so knowledgeable, value training and above and beyond vet care, and truly care about the dogs and the people involved. They have rescued so many dogs off the euth list who are such perfect additions to any home, with a little love and care. What a nightmare!! My mother in law had a horrible experience here! She had lost her dog due to some sort of seizure or heart attack out of the blue. We couldn't even call the vet it was that fast. We had left him in the air conditioned house in a fenced area with food and water for less than an hour and when we came back he was laying on the ground. We tried to revive him but he passed before we could even dial the vet. He was drinking water and playing with my dog just before we left, no signs of distress. Sometimes things happen that are unexpected but she was punished for this! He was taken to a crematorium and we all have his ashes. He was beloved. She had rescued him but he had medical issues due to his extreme breeding. We found out after he passed that he had had seizures in the past but had him for a year and weren't told. She takes excellent care of her pets and she waited awhile and wanted to adopt another Frenchie. She explained how the previous dog passed and his breeding issues, was approved for adoption etc.. paid her money, took 2 days off of work, bought all the supplies, prepared her home and then drove 75 miles one way to get to the meet and greet. The foster parent was extremely rude from the second my mother in law got out of the car. She never smiled or was nice for a second. She was one of the rudest people she had ever met and cut her off and was terrible. My mother in law met the dog and that went well. When the discussion of her previous dog came up she was explaining what happened and the lady Jennifer said "You left your dog when he was having a seizure and didn't take him to the vet"?? My mother in law said no. That's not what happened, I would have NEVER left him if he was in distress! The lady literally ignored her and walked out with the dog and left my mother in law sitting in a pub by herself and drove away!! My mother in law then got a text saying that they had changed their minds and were refunding her $600 with a heart emoji!!!! My mother in law was so beside herself, she cried all the 75 miles back home. Not only did they treat her extremely unfairly and flippant about this decision, this person twisted the story, wouldn't let her speak or explain even though this was already explained in detail and accepted during the adoption process. They let the foster parent make that decision when she didn't know the story! And just decided that she didn't like her for whatever reason. I was so upset for her! She also told her that she keeps her in a kennel most of the time. This dog could have had a wonderful loving home that was approved but instead is sitting in a kennel in this mean lady's house. It was horrible and unfair to the dog and my mother in law! It was traumatizing! My mother in law is such a good pet parent and didn't deserve this treatment!! read more

Short version: I couldn't recommend more strongly that adopters look elsewhere after CBR's handling of a bite incident involving a dog we adopted from them. After we informed them that our dog had hurt our 2-year-old son, their response was callous, shaming, and revealed dangerous patterns about how they disclose the behavioral histories of their dogs. This org has a problematic reputation in the dog rescue community. Prospective adopters should research it before engaging. Long Version: We adopted a GSD/bully mix from CBR in late 2020. Things were going quite well with training and acclimating her to our home. We were vigilant about exercise and training, as mental and physical stimulation is important for herding breeds. Unfortunately, after many months without incident, our dog showed a sudden and distressing level of aggression toward our 2-year-old son. We are not novice dog owners. We understand that the triggers between children and dogs can be subtle. In this case, however, our son was playing with his mother on the other side of the room when our dog charged and bit him on the face. Fortunately, the bite didn't require stitches, but had it been an inch higher or lower he might have lost an eye. Our dog continued to show aggression toward our child over the next couple days. We were forced to separate them and muzzle our dog, which was heartbreaking. After consulting our vet, family, and friends who volunteer for pitbull rescue organizations, we realized we couldn't risk further injury; we would have to rehome our pup. I'm a lifelong dog lover, and never in a million years did I think I'd be in a position to surrender one. But in this case, if our dog had maimed our child, we wouldn't have forgiven ourselves - nor should we have. When we reached out to CBR to let them know of our decision, to say they were callous would be an understatement. They denied that the bite could've happened as we said; their view was that "dogs don't bite unprovoked", which in itself showed a stunning lack of understanding of the way dog genetics and early experiences can shape behaviors. They also suggested that we were obligated to keep the dog in our home "per [our] contract." We let them know our decision was final as we could not risk our son's safety. But, despite their inappropriate response to what was becoming a dangerous situation for our family, we wanted to be thoughtful partners in the rehoming process and were available to discuss on the phone. Of course, they never took us up on our multiple offers to discuss the details of the bite incident on the phone, nor hear about our overall experience with our dog (which had been mostly wonderful). They sent a cursory survey that we were happy to fill out. And, after an odd degree of reluctance, they agreed to let our dog stay with our trainer until she found a permanent home. This is where it gets ugly. Hours after I'd dropped our dog off with the trainer, CBR wrote a public shaming post about us on their Instagram account. It was a punitive and deeply mean-spirited act that, to this day, I do not understand. Worse, the post was riddled with manipulations of the truth and outright lies. To highlight the main ones: - They described the incident as a "nip", which is a dangerous misrepresentation. I would later learn that this is their m.o. Bite incidents are swept under the rug and future owners pay the price, including one gruesome situation involving a foster that prospective adopters should Google. - In an effort to saddle us with blame for the bite, CBR said the dog "had been with the same family throughout puppyhood". In fact, we were her fourth home. Including two previous fosters and her place of birth, where she and her littermates were found under a car in such bad condition that several died. Those are early-puppyhood experiences that can shape future future behaviors. Needless to say, CBR didn't share this history with us - we later learned it from a foster. - Their stated reason for writing the IG post was "accountability and transparency." That would be easier to believe if they hadn't *liked* multiple posts that insulted us, literally calling us "stupid" for our decision to rehome. We screenshotted these likes for posterity in case there's any question. I want to be clear about one thing: we do not blame CBR in any way for the bite incident. Dogs can be unpredictable. Especially those with difficult histories. But CBR's lack of integrity - and understanding of dogs - in dealing with our situation is a massive red flag for any org that claims to be an advocate for bully breeds. There were warning signs throughout the adoption process. Unfortunately, we didn't heed them. Instead of taking my word for it, I suggest you talk to bully fosters and other rescue organizations about CBR's history. If we'd done this due diligence on the front end, it would have saved us some pain. read more

I cant say enough about how great of a rescue CBR is. The support they give their fosters and adopters are incredible. It is really hard to jump in when you haven't fostered before or when you have had a bad experience with another rescue. The support they give is outstanding. They have 24/7 support to you and provide you with a trainer coming to your home as a first time foster. They also pay for all medical, supplies, food and training if needed. We adopted our newest addition to our family from this rescue. They have been absolutely great! It was a great experience adopting from this rescue and we are so very happy with our big boy JoJo He was terrified and afraid of everything when we adopted him at the end of May and now he's a giant , sweet, happy cuddle bug.
