Where do I start? My mom and myself had to put down our senior dog of 18 yrs old on last Thursday 5/7/26. He had cancer and we believe it started to spread. He was not able to even drink water. We did not want him to suffer. He was blind and could not hear as well. Friday 5/8/26, we immediately started to search for a new fur baby because we had Yunci (Pomeranian) at home and she was grieving. Yunci is 7 years and had been with Sir Ed Hardy since she was a puppy. We saw several lovely fur babies on the Delta Humane Society's webpage but one stood out to us because she was the same breed as Yunci's mother. We went to the Delta Humane the next morning Saturday. Someone had already inquired about the baby named Taco. Luckily for us they did not show up and we where there 2 hours. So guess what, we adopted Taco and renamed...Keko is our newest family member and we are so HAPPY. He is a beautiful, loving and smart fur baby. He will live his BEST life with his new buddy Yunci. The Delta Humane Society of San Joaquin is holding a fundraising gala at Great Wolf lodge. I Hopefully this will raise enough money for them to hire people who will actually get back to folks in a timely manner when they are trying to surrender an animal. It's an emotional thing for many of us pet owners to have to be forced to surrender a pet. We went through the application process and it took five follow-up calls until someone emailed saying they had no room. The application even had space for a time frame to which they ignored. Also, when following up, I was told that whoever makes the decision can't be directly contacted. It was as if that person lived on mars rather than in the next cubicle of the trailer they are housed in. It is very disappointing. We had an opportunity to see the facility. At that time they had maybe 5 dogs in kennels and a lot of empty space. I suggest that they not advertise a service or fundraise or receive grants for a service they clearly do not provide. read more

Our adoption experience was dismal at best. Facility was mediocre. Nothing like other SPCAs or Humane shelters in the Bay Area. The paperwork they gave us with vaccines etc was incorrect and for a completely different animal! We discovered shortly after adoption the animal had a parasite from the shelter that cost hundreds to treat, and behavioral issues we've spent north of a thousand trying to resolve. The shelter did not return phone calls or emails, nor did it offer us any support. The facilities were also pretty dire--so glad we got our pup out of there! read more

For my 700th review, I'd like to tell you about my dog Sam. When Sam was a puppy, he was abused, malnourished and abandoned, tied to a street sign in the middle of a country practically dirt road..... in the month of December.... 5 years ago. The SPCA happened to drive by as the man was driving away after tying Sam to the post. A month later, after spending months looking for a labrador, I happened to be driving by a pet adoption event. Sam was the only dog that didn't snip or bark. He was trembling in the corner of his cage. I took him.... his big brown eyes sold me. My husband was pissed.... why on earth did I take the most damaged 'scared of his own shadow' dog? Well..... let me tell you.... this dog is well adjusted now.... after many hugs, cookies... hand fed meals, Sam is doing very well. We don't hand feed him any longer.... but he still has his moments when we leave for work. And he stays by my husband's side as much as possible. Thank you SPCA for saving Sam and all that you do for animals! read more

Searched several adoption agencies in Lodi. Met many sweet cats & dogs. However the adoption fees ranged from $80-300. Delta's fees started at $25. The facility looked and smelled cleaner than any of the Lodi facilities. Kim patiently introduced me to all the cats and spend quality time interacting with 4 different cats. All sweet but Louis won my heart. For $25 I went home with a neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, cat. Complete with travel box and bag of treat and food samples. I would wholeheartedly recommend Delta Humane Society to anyone looking for that special family member. It was an easy adoption process and very affordable. read more

Now I don't want to say steer clear of this place because they have lots of wonderful animals there that deserve to find their loving, forever homes. However, just keep in mind that you may have to pay quite a bit more at the vet on top of what they charge you to adopt. Here's my story. My girlfriend and I recently moved to the area and decided that we wanted a couple furry companions to make our house a home. We visited the Delta Humane Society and actually spend a couple hours there really getting to know all the cats. We came back 2 days later with our decision and adopted 2 cats. Upon bringing them home I realized that they both had worms (worms and eggs coming from their rear ends) so I brought them back in and they gave them a deworming treatment. I also noticed one of the cats would shake his head when you touched his ear when petting him and the other had a weepy eye that seemed to be bothering her. So I decided to take them both in to the vet to get checked out. Well, they both did not have their feline leukemia vaccines which they received, then had to be brought back for a booster 3 weeks later. They both needed another deworming treatment as the one they were previously given was not a 1 dose treatment. He had a yeast infection in his ear and required drops twice a day for 2 weeks. She had ear mites which they gave her a treatment for and a bacterial infection in her eye which required ointment twice a day for a week and following an upper respiratory work up it was discovered that the reason behind the infection was actually that she was positive for feline herpes and the stress of being in a new environment caused it to flare up and allowed the bacteria to grow in her eye. So as you can imagine, our pair of rescued shelter cats have now cost us a pretty penny. But again I must emphasize, the cats and dogs here deserve loving homes. We love our cats and would do it all over again. Just be mindful and take your pet for a wellness check sooner rather than later upon adoption to make sure everything is ok. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by here several weekends ago and we were very happy we did! Although we didn't adopt a dog that day, we will revisit again. The older lady that greeted us was very friendly and answered any and all questions we had. She laughed at me when she asked what kind of dog I was looking for and I replied a yorkie. This was before we took the walk back to the very clean and well maintained dog kennel- most of the dogs were pit bulls and chihuahuas. I guess not many yorkies end up here? I liked that the kennel didn't stink as many often do. I LOVE the fact that they are a no-kill shelter. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good shelter where it appears as if the animals are well cared for. read more

I brought in a Calico kitten awhile back that was literally skin and bones. She and my other cats never found a middle ground. She and my Chiweenie didn't get along either. I was able to bring her to the Delta Humane Society for the health care she needs and then being put up for adoption. She was the sweetest little thing. She purrs like crazy and loves to snuggle. Thanks again for taking care of the beautiful Miss Luna. read more

The adoption fee included the neutering (which they forwarded to my vet). They also brought my poochie to my vet. This shelter is a blessing to Stockton. They treat their rescues like family. The animals so well taken care of that they are actually happy! Happy animals in a shelter, who has ever seen such a thing? The most important thing about this shelter is of course that is it no-kill. They keep them until they are adopted. They also have a great screening process for adoptions to ensure the animals are going to a wonderful and loving home and even check up on the owners to see how the pet is doing. They have adoptions at Carter's Pet Mart pretty much every weekend. They also do pet adoptions around town. I've seen them in the Campbell's parking lot in Lincoln center. They have also opened a thrift store where all the proceeds go towards the shelter. read more

They are so nice. you can tell that everyone really cares about the shelter. If i wanted to adopt they would be the first place i would go to. It is nice to see someone who really cares about the animals and does not treat you like a criminal because you own a dog that you got from a breeder. I love this place! I adopted my cat from there about 10 months ago and it was awesome. I got my sweet girl for $25. She was just a young kitten when I took her home. I am now considering getting one more kitten so she can have a friend around the house besides us humans. The facility is super nice and clean. Doesn't have that animal smell like most places. Contacted Delta Humane Society because abandon kittens found on property. DHS agreed to take them as long as I fostered them until age 8 weeks. DHS had me come in, took all my info, looked at the kittens, and offered food if needed. Now that they are 8 weeks, I contacted DHS to let them know they are ready. DHS now denies knowing anything about me fostering these kittens for them and will not take them. I have already spent $500 of my own money fostering them to get them to a point for DHS to take over as agreed, and now they will not take them. Really disappointed as I had done all the right steps with them as instructed and now they are not honoring their side or helping as agreed. And now DHS won't return my calls. Had thought about going there in the spring because I am planning on adopting an older cat then; but after this experience will not adopt or donate to the Delta Humane Society of Stockton ever! read more

I got my little kitten from these guys. They are so nice, and I am so glad I came here. From the outside, compared to the Stockton Animal Shelter, this place seems a lot better. And what makes me feel better is that this shelter is a "no - kill" shelter, which just makes me feel more relaxed. The kennels and runs were as clean as they could get, and the people there just seemed so caring about the work they were doing. Clearly, the employees truly know that they are working for a better cause. This place is great! read more

Three years ago I adopted a little cat that had been there for six years, coming in there as a kitten. Donnie was a little afraid of things at first, but became a very friendly, outgoing, delightlful little cat. I highly advise adopting pets from them. I found the facility to be very clean, animals well taken care of, and they were concerned about what kind of home their pets were going to. I'd happily use them again. read more
