Loved the store, great novelty shirts, fun ideas. Went to the Fairfax store a couple times and thought it was a small business with some local artists selling their products. We bought a gift for a friend, it didn't fit and we wanted to see if we could quickly exchange for a larger size. That's when the bizarre month long process began. Nobody answers the phone and the emails kept promising help and then nothing for two weeks. We even said hey we'll keep the shirt can we just buy the larger one as it was now on sale. Days would go by and excuses given and we were told we COULD. Exchange the shirt and they would send us a label... now more days and silence. Just odd. Shady AF. Website says generous 60-day return policy. I returned my item which was of very poor quality within 2 weeks of receiving it. I got no response for another 2 weeks after they received the item. The only reason I did receive a response is because I had sent three or four emails. Their response was that they would not return the item to me, they would not process an exchange, and they would only give me a 50% store credit. So basically I gave them $180 and have nothing to show for it. They have since stopped returning any emails but it may be that it just takes them weeks to respond to emails. First off, this review isn't for the brick and mortar store but their products and customer service. Email correspondence is on point and response time is super fast! I felt the response to my inquiry was helpful, friendly and very informative. I had purchased a High Sierra shirt, since I LOVE the first one I purchased a year ago. One of the biggest selling points (and buying justification) was that all of California Cowboy products are made in California. Unfortunately, as soon I opened the plastic garment bag, you could tell something was different. The fabric, weight and feel was slightly different, not bad, but just different. The material is relatively same but now they add cotton sourced from BCI (Better Cotton Initiative), very responsible and awesome that CC is part of that. However, one huge thing for me with this purchase was that the tag starts that the item was designed in California but made in China. The website still states that their items are made in California. I contacted their email and was told that they have recently switch manufacturers in order to improve quality and are happy with the improvements. To return would cost $5 or I could drop it off at a Return Bar, if one is open/local and to quote: "Thank you for the feedback. We would like to state that although there may be some negative effects toward 'Made in China,' we truly value the quality and consistency of our products. We are happy with the results and have been able to use better material and improve all quality checks. We have made note of your feedback and let us know if you have any questions regarding our return procedure!" If this was for the response time, this review would be 5 stars but for the honesty, accuracy and help to return a product that is not how it is described, a three star rating is sufficient. California Cowboy has a pretty spectacular design and is a very unique brand, and if manufacturing origins are not a factor, support this shop. :) read more

I bought annnnnd loooooved the red Buffalo check plaid high Sierra! I wanted to buy a back up/I've gotten fatter and wanted to buy a bigger size.... but they don't make it anymore!?! I then wanted the Indigo Japanese denim... but my size is always sold out!! Being in Canada probably makes it a lil more difficult, so I'm probably suffering due to location! The one I do have is comfy and stylish! Keeps me warm during those cold soccer practice mornings with my soccer star son too! Very interesting new business. I like it a lot and their motif of surfy outdoorsy culture..handcrafted, designed flannels and printed shirts. I didn't actually like the women's offerings, but it was interesting. If only the shirts weren't $130-140 for printed or flannel. You can get that elsewhere for cheaper. I love California Cowboy. They have knowledgeable staff, who are all super helpful. But what I like most about this store is their unique product. I brought a couple of High Sierra Shirts for my family. A High Sierra shirt is a waffle-lined, Japanese flannel button down. So soft and warm, plus there's a pocket for your beer! Yes! A pocket for your beer, so your hands don't get cold! As well as, a water resistant pocket, which will keep your valuables dry. Great for hitting the slopes or the beach. I absolutely love my CC hooded sweatshirt, so much I have two! It is so soft and comfortable, and I love to use it to fly in as the hood is big and perfect for plane sleeping. Awesome boutique in Nob Hill. The staff are so friendly and really embody the spirit of the brand - fun, California style that doesn't take themselves too seriously. To their great credit, the owner himself wrote me apologized and sent me a new shirt, in great shape, and fit! High Water Shirt - I wear a L at 6'2" 220, but like my shirts to hang loose so go with an XL in other shirts. I read to upsize, so ordered an XXL. Their XXL was made for a small culture of people - outside the US. These are tiny, tight shirts. Again, made for another, small cultured race of people. Even the XXL is too tight to wear. Skip it.
