BEWARE this bank since it's takeover- change of language, per Assistant Manager, started with the takeover and she acknowledged it. The language used by tellers is DECEITFUL and can have no other motive than to trick you into thinking that you have more money in your account than you do so that you will withdraw it and end up in a loan type situation where you are paying high interest on the money withdrawn. When I asked how much money was in my account, the teller told me an amount of far more, like $1500 or so more than I knew I had in there. When I kept asking how did extra money or what deposit came in that I wasn't aware of, he kept repeating that I had that amount available. It took like 2 minutes of questioning and discussion and telling him to look up where the money came from, all the while while he wouldn't answer the question or be able to tell me where the money came from. He spoke like a scripted robot, obviously the teller has been trained in some way to speak in that fashion and answer questions with a scripted answer. The wording is what is the trick here. If you ask what's in your account they will reply something like, "you have X amount available". What they are really saying is if you are tied to a SharePlus account, which is essentially an overdraft protection account, that's how much money you can take out. If you are not tracking your money, you would inevitably be drawing out money that is part of the SharePlus account, which functions as a high interest rate loan, and you wouldn't probably even realize it, hence you would be paying high interest on money you thought was yours. The new word, apparently, in order to find out what you've actually put into your account, is "collected". I've never heard this term in my life, and it appears this is a new invention and vocabulary created by the new California Credit Union that obviously the public isn't educated about.
I've been a California Credit Union member for 20 years to the date now. It definitely has been a problem bank and over the years I have definitely wanted to leave but never took the step. I think this is the point where I need to get out. I have my business account with another bank and probably should just transfer over this aspect to that same bank.
The West Covina branch is a particularly problem location. Over the years I've encountered incompetent management, even had a manager in there belittle myself and a disabled person in front of me and accused me and the transaction being requested, even with legal documentation presented to him, of potential criminal behavior when it was in fact the manager who was unfamiliar with a disabled person trying to obtain an account with a representative payee. It was absolutely disgraceful.
Besides the latest "mishap of language" with the teller as I noted above, the branch assistant manager cares not to even look into the past 20 years that I have spent with this bank and when I'm trying to make available some funds with a check from my own business account, which I have done many times in the past and is regularly cleared, and all she could say was that she didn't see any history on me that showed I had been doing so in any detail and even quoted me amounts that were deposited of lesser amounts than what was true. The attitude is one of the polite finger with a smile on the face. The service and interest in serving the customer is 0. It's absolutely insulting given the years I have done business with the bank here. Worse, it costs me money and time. Time to leave.
Other problems that I've encountered with this Bank include loan officers never getting back to you-when I tried inquiring about a loan for a house, always busy, always in a meeting, I truly believe I think that she didn't think I was a big enough loan or else not a good bet for her, so she blew me off, or she just had better or other deals to finish, the whole thing didn't make sense. And the reason I don't have my business bank account there is because some not too smart person from the California Credit Union, in-person themselves, actually told me they don't carry business accounts there. Later, after I went to another bank to open my business account, someone at California Credit Union, that I was having a side conversation with, says "what, you don't have your business account here and who told you that?" It's a complete mess in there. More stories, it seems so trivial, but when you realize you're dealing with the bank and it's your money and livelihood and you realize they simply don't make any effort to intelligently service you, that's a bank that doesn't deserve to have any reward from their customers, like my hard-earned money. read more
