Without a doubt, this was one of the most challenging experiences for me in academia, and I have an advanced degree in Biology. So, whatever you do, do not take this program lightly. The material covered is very comprehensive, with certain aspects mirroring year one of medical school. Given the duration of the program, there will unquestionably be times when you're overcome by the sheer volume of material covered in such a short time frame. Whatever you do, **don't get discouraged.** Stay the course. Rest assured, the staff at RCI are there to support you as best as they can. Because your success is a direct reflection of them-- their ability to ensure you are well prepared for the board exam and will make a positive contribution to the medical community at large. You see, everyone has a common goal here. The goal is for you to succeed. Outstanding experience overall. But again, this is far from easy. While the role is that of technician, this is not an "on the surface" academic program. The demand is great, and the bar is high. Although, you've been given somewhat of a head start seeing as the support system at RCI is stellar. The instructors and laboratory training are top tier. I signed my child up for 10 swimming lessons over the summer. My child had absolutely NO swimming experience and was initially very scared and uncomfortable in the water. After finally becoming more comfortable and starting to overcome that fear, I expected consistent weekly lessons to help build on that progress. Instead, our lessons were cancelled FIVE separate times. And here's the part that is completely unacceptable: we were not notified until we had already arrived for the lesson. We made the trip, got our child ready, spent the time and money getting there, only to find out that the lesson was cancelled. Gas isn't free, our time isn't free, and our schedules aren't free. To make matters worse, we went an entire MONTH without a swimming lesson. What is the point of paying for lessons when there is absolutely no consistency? This was particularly frustrating because my child was finally making progress and becoming comfortable in the water. Then that progress was completely disrupted because the facility couldn't provide the consistency we signed up and paid for. At that point, the lessons felt like a waste of money. I am now potentially going to have to spend even MORE money elsewhere to get my child back on track because of the lack of consistency here. I also asked to speak with a manager, and the front desk initially refused to provide me with the manager's information. When I finally spoke with someone, I was told that the cancellations were because we had signed up for a 9:00 AM lesson and they had to cancel at the last minute. Excuse me? If a business offers a 9:00 AM class, it is the BUSINESS'S responsibility to make sure that class can actually be provided. If an instructor calls out, there should be a system in place to notify parents BEFORE they waste their time driving to the facility. One cancellation? Things happen. Five cancellations, including multiple instances where we weren't notified until we physically showed up, is a completely different story. I paid in advance for a service that was repeatedly not provided. I set aside time in my schedule. I made arrangements to get my child there. I spent money on transportation. I showed up expecting the lessons I paid for to take place. Instead, we were repeatedly inconvenienced and given inconsistent communication. And after all of that, I was unwillingly denied a full refund for the cancelled lessons. That is what makes this experience even more frustrating. You cannot repeatedly cancel a service, fail to properly notify paying customers, disrupt a child's progress for an entire month, and then expect the customer to simply accept losing their money. If you cannot consistently provide the service you are selling, then you need to do better by the families who are paying you. At the absolute minimum, customers deserve timely communication and a refund for services that were never provided. I would strongly encourage parents to think twice before committing their money and their child's time to this facility. Swimming lessons require consistency, especially when you're working with a child who is already afraid of the water. Unfortunately, that is exactly what we did NOT receive here.
