Great tasting food at very reasonable prices. The pork meat was very flavorful and tender. Attentive and friendly staff. Latin music, average noise level. This meat market has lots of pre-made desserts/food and many Latin products as well. Seating available outside, but no shade available. Most people eat in their cars.

Excellent spot to get some spicy shrimp tacos. The fish tacos were okay, but the shrimp tacos were excellent. You can only dine outside, but if you are working or on your way somewhere, it works well. I suggest trying to order ahead if that is an option because you will have a good 10-minute wait and no place to sit.

NASTY Selling expired and over priced products Seems like the owner just wants to scam the community better off going to wal-mart what a waist of time and money

California Ranch always has what I'm looking for. Their steak ranchero is excellent! They have a good variety in their meat locker, and a wide range selection of items not always found at your local grocery store. Highly recommend!

They charged $6 for the nastiest simple nachos. There was about 10 chips. What a rip off and they took over 10 min making it. They also sold me expired chicken that smelled and was slimy

I've got to see the doctor because my eye makes me look like a gargoyle and the itching makes me feel like a cranky gargoyle. My appointment is in a couple hours so I head over to Day Street Market. I've got my basket filled with Persian cookies, Lebanese yogurt, saffron, couscous, ghee, spices and pita bread. I'd love to buy some lamb and beef but I'm avoiding buying them until I trust the government. The man at the counter speaks with me about my fears and assures me his halal meet is 100% beef and lamb. I believe him, but I'll wait just a little longer and then I'll be back. Now, off to urgent care and off with my sunglasses. I could barely see anything in the market with my sunglasses on and they probably thought I was pretending to be someone famous. I'll be back for the meat when I don't look like a famous gargoyle.

We gobbled some raspberries straightaway at a shaded picnic table and made jam with the rest. A special shoutout to Josh, whose smiling kindness, excellent knowledge, and extra-thoughtful offer to split a full slushie into two cups for the little ones in our group made the visit even better. The store is wonderful, too, with homemade jams, jellies, and canned fruits and vegetables, olive oils and vinegars ($8/tasting), rustic merchandise, and a backroom bar featuring homemade wines ($20/5-wine tasting or $12/glass). Apparently everything is from local small farms around San Diego and possibly a few things owner made. They consistently carry some of the best-quality produce currently available from San Diego and the surrounding areas, thoughtfully curated with real care. Misses are rare, and when something isn't right, they always make it right. What really sets this place apart is the knowledgeable team. They can tell you not just what something is, but where it's from, why it's special, and even how best to prepare it if it's new to you. They know which watermelon varietals are sweetest (and why), which tomatoes are best for different uses, and how to guide you toward the best choice of the day. We also appreciate the simplicity of the space. It's clear the focus is on quality produce rather than unnecessary overhead or décor that doesn't add to flavor or nutrition. We come in knowing our weekly staples, and we always look forward to discovering a surprise treat or seasonal treasure to add to the basket. We recently lived in Spain for a year and deeply miss the fruterías found on every corner, places that genuinely support daily health and well-being. In the U.S., truly good produce can be harder to find, with so much emphasis on mass production and appearance over flavor and nutrition. The Fruit Stand comes as close as we've found to that European produce experience. We're grateful this place exists and grateful for the care they put into what they offer. Thank you for being here--and we'll see you next week.
