I came here awhile back with my brother. We originally went to Turners to look into purchasing my first gun. In order to get a feel for it, we came to Called2Arms to try out a few different guns and try out the one I wanting to purchase. You pay to rent the gun and for ammo. You must have an ID and need to fill out the paperwork prior. You must have eye wear and ear plugs, available for purchase. You can also purchase a Target or they supply the first one free. They have a staff member in the range to ensure safety and help answer any questions. It was a cool experience. Had a blast (pun intended) the range is well maintained and the distances are from 3, 7 & 21 yards perfect for pistol training. I'm not sure if higher caliber weapons are permitted but if they are my advice would be use ear plugs in addition with ear muffs. (probably a good idea to exercise this regardless). As a note no holster work is allowed but you can start at the #2 position and present out to focus on target acquisition and sight alignment. For new shooters here are 5 rules for handling a firearm EVERY TIME to help ensure your safety and the safety of others. 1. Treat every firearm as if it's loaded. 2. Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. 4. Be aware of your target and what's beyond it. 5. Store firearms securely and safely. Don't be a minority wearing a beanie and a hoodie because it's 40 degrees outside or you'll be stereotyped into oblivion! How is it that on your website it says "Courses Currently Accepted By: Stanislaus, Escalon PD". Then I schedule an appointment to add a gun to my San Joaquin county CCW permit and when I get there I get told they don't train for San Joaquin County. Escalon PD is in SJC right? How does that make sense? Then when I mention it, the attitude I received was highly unprofessional. Not to mention the constant judgmental looks and passive aggressive comments about not pointing guns at people? We haven't even hit the range yet and you're making assumptions on our firearm safety and common sense? Totally opposite experience compared to one I had at the gun shop. Prior to ownership change, I was told by previous owner that the new owner would honor all range passes from the previous ownership. I had 4 range passes from CSS. Tried to use one today. I'm from the Bay Area, San Jose to be exactly. The minute we walked in there, it was not friendly at all. The customer service was horrible, the man in charge I'm not sure who he was or his name but he had a red hat on and instantly pulled over my group of male friends and with a really direct and aggressive tone was questioning "Who is smoking dope" and "I will find out who is smoking dope" etc this is a place to pass time and enjoy shooting, not the police station. I was not apart of the group he cornered but I could hear the way he was talking and honestly it was unprofessional. I understand there are rules and laws people need to follow, but there's a way to say things especially to customers spending there money at your store. With that being said, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Take your dollars else where. read more

It is a nice indoor shooting range to go to. $20 get you access to the range. Do you need to bring your own gun and ammo due to the fact of Covid. Excellent target so select from and they always let you bring back the targets that you don't shoot with. The range goes from 3 yards to 10 yards which is enough space to see how well you can shoot the targets. The people are very honest very helpful and what you would expect from a gun range. read more

Nice facility, but the customer service is some of the worst that I've ever seen. I am an experienced shooter, and over the years, I've been to several other ranges. With that said, CSS ranks dead last. My negative experience started the minute that I walked up to the counter to check in. The female who helped me was professional, but not very personable. Ultimately, it wasn't that big of a deal. She was able to answer my questions, but she just wasn't very friendly. The real issue I had during my experience was with the male worker who was mugging me from the end of the counter. I didn't catch his name, but he was wearing glasses, and had a look on his face like somebody just pissed in his Wheaties. Nothing says we appreciate your business like a guy who is watching you like you're some sort of criminal. Anyway, I blew off the attempted intimidation, and headed into the range. The male in the glasses followed me into the range, and again, watched me to make sure that I was going to follow all of the rules. As a competitor in practical shooting, I frequently double tap the trigger as I shoot the target. Well, as soon as I hit my first double tap, Mr. Personality decided to light me up and told me that rapid fire was not allowed. Rapid Fire? Excuse me? What the hell was this guy talking about? Anyway, I finished the rounds in my mags one by one, and packed up. This was the shortest range session in my experience as a shooter, and I couldn't wait to get out the door. Not only will I NEVER shoot here again, but I will make sure that my friends don't shoot here either. Thank god that CSS isn't the only game in town. read more

My sons and I enjoyed the sporting recreation here. It has been a long while since I last shot pistols. It was good to get that feel again, and especially, having that friendly competition with the boys. Their customer service was excellent - we particularly enjoyed Ryan who was friendly, very informative and enthusiastic; and liked his emphasis on gun safety no matter the person's prior experience! They had a good variety of guns to choose from - we just needed to purchase the bullets for the guns we use and a shooting lane to share. We enjoyed taking turns to compare notes on gun preferences, and who knows, possibly own one. The set up of shooting lanes had a good feel - it's too bad we could not shoot past approximately 13 yards. ;-) read more

Rented guns here before and come here to shoot on a regular basis. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. They have 10 lanes and typically fairly busy on the weekends. They have a good assortment of accessories and they also sell new handguns. Monthly club is worth it if you shoot on a regular basis. read more

Well, it's been a long time since I shot my pistols & I needed to kill some time in Modesto. I looked up different gun ranges in the area & found this place from where I need to be later in the day. I walked to check it out on a Friday afternoon & it wasn't too busy. The clerk greeted me & I asked a few questions about the place, which he gladly answered. The range fee was $20 for the whole day, including ear muffs & targets. Check-in was easy & they treat you like a responsible adult when handling the firearms. The shooting bays are partitioned from each other & has a clip to hold your extra targets. It wasn't too noisy with the ear muffs & actually worked very well. I shot 50 rounds of 9mm & 50 rounds of 45's; man, it goes quickly. I spend about an hour there & it was time well spend. Next time, I'll bring all of my guns because I need the practice. I liked it so much, I bought a new shooting bag at Big 5. Time to stock up on ammo. This is a great place for some casual shooting; the staff is great & don't treat you like a moron. I have to drive all the way from South San Francisco, but it's worth the drive. read more

First time shooting there, as it was recommended by my son, and I have been to several ranges. The people are nice and professional. The place is clean, well lit, and a comfortable environment. Wow, this place was awesome. Took my daughters for their first time shooting and I'll tell you what the staff was great. Hats off to Corey he showed my girls some great tips and techniques for holding and aiming to the target. They each shot about 75 rounds and after each one he showed them something to help out the next time. It was very busy and waited about 25 minutes for a lane but was listening and asking questions the whole time about different guns and where and how to clean.
