A few years back I was facing a similar scenario and the clerk at that store in the US actually charged me a couple Dollars per hole. I've been extremely wary of shoe repair stores ever since and so I actually asked how much they would charge for such a simple action (which literally takes like 10 seconds per hole). I found several vetted companies that were nearby, so I set out to deciding what kind of lock I'd like. We decided that we wanted something that automatically locks when we leave and close the door. I did some research and was looking at a particular Yale lock, and called the companies on my list to get prices for the lock and installation. North London Locksmiths was 5th on my contact list, I believe. The gentleman that answered the phone was happy to assist (they certainly all weren't thrilled to speak to me, that's for sure - A few acting like I was putting them out by contacting them to consider them for the job). He asked why I was interested in the Yale lock, and that they have a lock by ERA that is virtually the same, but much less expensive and much better quality, by his estimation. He advised that I look up that lock and to feel free to contact them back. I did some research, and decided that was the way to go. The savings of the money, plus the fact that he brought it up in the first place gave me a lot of trust in his business, so we set-up the appointment for the following-day. The installation took about an hour, and he did have to cut a bit out of our door frame to fit it in, but he did a nice job with filling the hole. Unless you look really closely, you can't even tell. All-in-all, we were very happy, and we really like the new lock.

Anyway, for all of its obscurity, Franchi has saved my life, only on one occasion, but for that I give it a huge amount of credit. The store stocks a huge amount of stuff considering how small it looks from the outside, you can buy all sorts of power tools that you never would have thought necessary in central London.
