Since Cal is retired, this place is not the same. The new owner Dustin thinks he should charge 136.00 for labor. He diagnosed an outer tie rod among a lot of other problems. Then he commented on how I had never been there before! Really,,? I still have the copies of my bill's. He has a lot to learn, or he won't be in business too long. His list of things I needed fixed were bogus. I took my car elsewhere. My inner tie rod was fixed not the outer, and I didn't need 7 other items fixed. Never again. I had my power steering leak fixed, a wheel alignment and inner tie rod for 265.00. He charged me 500.00 for a lower control arm that I didn't need. read more

I took a wheel hub up there to have a new wheel bearing pressed in it. I was giving a car to a neighbor kid because he's just a good kid and deserves it. I've had wheel bearings pressed before and and it's always around 30.00 you can find this fact on other reviews I've posted about repair shops doing the same thing for me it takes about 10 minutes to do it when it is off the car like mine was I'm new to the area I brought it up here they charged me $70 for 10 minutes worth of work basically an hours labor to do it. I will never ever go back to this place for anything not even gasoline. I have been taking my cars to Cal's for 20 years and wouldn't take them anywhere else for repair. He is as honest as they come, never recommends anything unless you absolutely need it and is priced reasonably. I can't even tell you the number of times he has done something and not charged me for it. I feel comfortable taking my cars there knowing they will get the right level of attention. I live in Lakewood but work in Mentor, right down the street from Cal's Marathon. I noticed my car was making a weird noise one morning on the way to work so I just brought it to the closest place and walked to work. Cal's Marathon serviced my car quickly, knowing I needed it back before I was done with work that day. And they didn't charge me anything because all that needed done was a screw being tightened! First let me start by saying you can't go wrong taking your car to cals. Numerous times has he done things at very little cost or free for me. he will always look at your car and not charge you for that. he is honest and nice. we take both are cars in. we don't have to wait more then a few days/ his shop is small with only two bays so best to call and make a apaointment or let them know your gonna drop your car off. he will allow you to buy your own parts and drop them off and only charge labor or he will order parts for you. hes done break and roders for us worked on exhaust problems patch up lines/replaced transmission lines. never had a issue. always busy though most times it will take a few days to get your car back but its worth it. read more

Made an appointment to get my tires changed and brakes checked. Cal's is a full service station. When I pulled in, the lot was full and the counter lined up with keys. There wasn't a spot to park without blocking a gas pump or driveway entrance. By the time I made it out of the parking lot my car was being pulled into a bay. I would suggest making an appointment if you're able to plan as they were quick with their work and the best of three price quotes I had gotten beating SAMs club by $250 for comparable tires! I can see why they're busy. I will still go back for emergency repairs, but will expect a longer turn around time with that. The employees there were all very friendly, called as soon as the car was done, gave accurate estimates including all costs and appreciative of my business! I would plan on paying with a check as I noted the credit card machine on the counter was an old carbon copy device which I'd worry about the safety of. read more

Well, yes, Cal's always has tons of cars in his parking lot because this place is known in the area for car repair vs gas station. He came highly recommended to me by a friend. I kind of took her ranting and raving with a grain of salt. I mean how many car shops don't rip a woman off? Cal is a gem, honest and reasonable. Luckily I'm only a couple of miles away, so I can leave my car and walk home. The dealer I bought my car from told me the past two times I went there that my battery was testing low and needed to be replaced. What?! I had just bought the battery the first time they told me that. I took my car in yesterday to have my brakes checked and have the oil changed. I asked Cal if he could look at the battery too. He told me that the battery tested fine. Now he could have gone on about how dealers will scam you, but he is too much of gentleman for that. He also told me my brake pads were fine and wouldn't need replaced until my next oil change. Again, he could have sold me new ones, and I wouldn't have known any better. The station is also know for 'good gas, good mileage', or something like that. read more

OMG - Cal is a good as it gets. He is absolutely awesome in car repair and total honesty. He has gotten something fixed for me that I broke and sent me on my way. For free. Nice as can be...if I ever need real repairs I would go there. My son does (even when a family friend does the same thing) and swears no one knows what this man does. I try to get gas there - alternating between Get Go (for perks) and Cal's just because. A single owned family business that has been operating for years due to integrity and a job well done deserves kudos in this day and age. read more
