One of the best breweries in the state of Florida, Calusa has the coolness factor, a great taproom, and a chill outdoor patio area to accommodate patrons who want to enjoy one of their tasty craft beers without feeling packed together like sardines. I would argue Calusa stands as Sarasota's flagship brewery who brew delicious and consistent beers you can quickly bring home in canned form. After years of hearing about them and trying their beers, we finally made a trip to the brewery recently and was as impressed with them as the day I first tried one of their cold ones. What I enjoy about Calusa is the low-keyed atmosphere and welcoming environment where you have families and friends relaxing about, enjoying some drinks and food from whichever vendor truck is on-site. Furthermore, the brewers make a vast array of beer styles to serve the public. Between their more traditional beers and their mixed-fermented ones, Calusa offers something for any drinker. For my money, their Pixel Vision is the bomb-diggity of craft beer wonderment and magic. A fruit beer made with passion fruit & lactose, this was creamy and citrusy, bursting with juicy goodness. I brought back a four-pack of this beer and a two-pack of the limited edition Double Mustache Imperial Brown ale -- a collaboration with Angry Chair Brewing (one of my absolute favorite breweries in Florida as well). This one had a pronounced aroma of maple syrup, with a palate bursting with brown sugar pecan pie magical goodness that makes it creamy, sweet deliciousness. Consider this beer like having a liquid version of a glorious pecan pie that makes you want to break into interpretative dance. Calusa is a rock star of a brewery that produces rock star beer. We love this brewery! The big tables are excellent for families and groups. We especially love the indoor area which has great air conditioning and is wonderful during humid days. You walk in the door and there is a restaurant to the left and a bar to the right. You can't actually sit down and order anything. You have to order your food separately and then go stand in line at the bar to order a drink. The drinks are good, but there is little to no service whatsoever even if you have questions. I'd say this is the best brewery for IPA. - ambience: nice and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seatings( with Doug friendly) - staff: nice - beer: I saw many good reviews About Zote, so I ordered it. I found it's a solid IPA but nothing amazing. What got my attention is their DIPAs and stouts. We tried both DIPAs on tap and the imperial stout with Madagascar vanilla beans, they are truly excellent. The IIPA are full of flavors, rich and bold but smooth and not too sweet. The best IIPAs I have had so far. The imperial stout smells amazing, right amount of sweetness. The texture is right and the taste is on point. Unfortunately, the English barley wine is not good at all, it tastes like syrup to me. Their German Pilsner is very nice crisp pilsner tho. Overall, I truly love this place and definitely will recommend it to anyone coming to the region. Bonus: they have good rotated foodtrucks to pair with their good beers too. read more

I slacked on entering this review earlier, but made a last minute decision to swing by on our way to Venice, and I am very glad we did. Nice open space with plenty of seating at the bar and numerous high top tables for a decent crowd. Flights offered by very friendly staff, so we tried 5 diff. beers, all unique and very tasty. Food trucks for eats, so be prepared to check what is scheduled or eat beforehand. Friendly locals too to talk about what else was around and a fellow beer knurd offered up a taste of a big stout they had available in bottles to go. Must visit this place, they have about 25 different craft beers you can enjoy. I had a citrus beer that was very refreshing, the service is great. For food there was a food truck outside that had outstanding sandwiches and platters. I has pulled pork over Mac & Cheese, it was delicious my wife had a pulled pork with broach bun with caramelized onions, she loved it and she is not a food truck fan, now she would like to go back.
