Love, love the option of the 4oz pour. It gives me an opportunity to try beers that I would probably not try if I had to buy the full glass. This is such a nice spot to hit after dinner if you want to hang out with friends, talk, or just chill. There are several tables, and I loved seeing a younger crowd playing cards. Great inviting spot. There is one pool table that seems to always be taken. So I enjoy watching them play. There are also several outdoor picnic tables, dog friendly, for folks to enjoy a night filled with stars and a breeze. Food truck vendors are featured so check the website to see who will feed you when you are there. It's great to have a spot to eat and drink, but watch a game, shoot some pool, play some cards without a pushy crowd. The staff here is extremely knowledgable and engaging, so if you are interested in craft beers, ask them, they will educate you. I will say, this is an adult crowd, so not for the kids. Definitely great for date night or friends who want to try some really good local beer. I think next time, I will do like the younger crowd and bring a deck of cards too. read more

Hubby and I worked up a thirst beachside and found this tucked away brewery that has rotating food truck options. We caught the SpiceBoy truck and their delish food lived up to their name. After splitting a spicy chicken shawarma taco and a slightly less spicy falafel taco we were full. Hubby enjoyed his fav Zote beer and I got acquainted with a fruity bluebluelemon beer. They are serious about their beer and it definitely shows in their finished product. They have 16 of their own beers in a variety of styles available on tap. Also bottles and cans available for purchase. Tried the Calusa Citronious​ BIG IPA w/ Citra, Zote IPA, Calusa Batch 300: Imp Sweet Stout w/ Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Valdivare: Wild Ale dry-hopped w/Citronious Mosaic & Saaz, Happy colors double NE IPA. They are available in 4 Oz pours and larger portions. My favorites were the Citronious BIG and the Batch 300. All of them thougg were true to their style with the body and flavor of a great beer. I love their tasting room too, right next to where they do the brewing onsite in a warehouse but they have really made the tasting room homey and just a cool vibe. Friendly service. They have food trucks daily in the evenings during the week and are open Tuesday to Sunday. Plenty of parking, great place to go for some good beer. read more

Overall, liked it here. Great selection of craft beer at very reasonable prices. Loved that they have smaller pours which most places don't have unless you get a flight of 4. The mint one was super good. Only downfall is all the kids running around. What a great place to have some brews. I am a IPA-only guy. I only drink IPA's, so Calusa is a dream joint for me. They have some great New England-syle brews that are, in my opinion, the best in Sarasota. They also have food trucks most of the time. This is an added bonus for sure when you are a few in and need some vitils to soak up that beer! Bottom Line: I drive 35 miles out of my way to come here. To be honest I've never heard of this brewery until a few weeks ago but since it's my goals to visit every brewery in the Tampa Bay, I had to visit! Located in an industrial park just like many other breweries. This place just opened not too long ago so I guess that's why I just heard of them. The inside is spacious and gorgeous. Love all the woodwork on the bar and tables. I ordered a flight and enjoyed the Citronious, Pale Ale, Blonde Ale, and a Coffee Brown on Nitro. All tasty but the Citronious was my hubby and I's absolute favorite. We were so mad we had left our growlers a home because I would have loved to bring more of this beer home. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed ourselves. Go visit! read more

Beer Stop 153 ---- Calusa brewing is about to blow up. Big time. While some of the beers need a bit of tweaking, in particular the saison and some of the other ales, their IPAS are on point. Seriously. Once they start canning, Calusa will compete with the best of them! Their Citronious IPA was so good - this beer can and will go hand in hand with some of the better IPAs in the country. They need to enter it in some festivals and competitions, its going to win! Their two other IPAs - both a single and a double - were good as well. The main standout was Citronious though! I have never had better beer. The Zote IPA is my favorite. Such a clever, sophisticated and ultimate concoction of citrus and lots of other wonderful things. Each sip is a wow. Well I can't do this incredible beer justice with my description. I discovered the beer at a restaurant called Sea Bar in Gulf Gate and sought out this brewery. Open 2 years and as a local I just now discovered this brewery right off of Clarke Road. When I inquired, they said they have spent no money on advertising and have relied on the word of their fine brews and atmosphere to pass along through the community. Well, it just got to me and I am passing forward. (Credit to a patron at Mr Berry's for letting us know; another place in Gulf Gate place for Beer). So, this is a short review because you just need to go and experience for yourself. (Local comparisons include J Dubs and Big Top Brewery - that I visited on the same day). Calusa was the best, followed by Big Top and then J Dubs. + Beer, atmosphere, good food trucks; just about everything for a brewery in Sarasota. ('Made' food truck was there the night I visited and was very good). Also, very, very clean and informed staff. - not much. It's a fine local brewery. I don't give a lot of 5 star reviews, but Calusa is as good as it gets. If you're an IPA fan, Calusa is a 8 star place on a 5 star scale (Yeplers tend to exaggerate). As a newbie to the area, I've been really (pleasantly) surprised by the number of craft breweries in the area. Honestly most have been pretty decent. So as I've been sharing my "discoveries" with the guy in the next office, he kept saying "you need to try Calusa..." "You need to try Calusa." I finally did, and yes, I have told him he's right. For your first time there, you're going to think Google Maps is taking you down the wrong road. Trust it. Parking lot full? Create a spot. Even an "almost only IPA guy", I have tried nearly everything on the menu. Like many, they have some staples, but also they are constantly rotating. Well, maybe not constantly as I have only been here 4 weeks, but it changes. You're going to look at the menu and say, "Wow, where do I begin?" Well, try a bunch of 4 oz pours. Yes, the non-IPA fans will find several they will like. A friendly word of warning to my IPA hop heads... Their Double IPAs are possibly too smooth and are capable of kicking your a$$, especially if you have spent all day on a boat diving or fishing... you should probably trust me on this.. not that that has happened... Really, their DIPAs are possibly too good and are approaching perfection. Oh, the other stuff. Other Yelpers have nailed it. A big, open and inviting tasting room. Some really good Food Trucks in the parking lot. Most importantly a really nice staff who knows their beers (I HATE it when servers at craft breweries aren't craft beer drinkers)... a pretty regular clientele who is willing to chat with anyone (yup, I'm that guy at the end of the bar). And truly exceptional beer. I haven't been to every craft brewery around, but pretty close... and this is the best by far. Calusa Brewing Company has to be one of the neatest Brewhouse I have ever visited in Florida! Aside from being the first brewery I visited in Florida, I was truly impressed with the modern, sleek, and beautiful wood nature to the brewery. Conveniently enough, this establishment also serves food for those immediate moments where the munchies strike again! While the growlers are really expensive, $8 a piece, the beer itself is relatively inexpensive to pour! While I wanted to go with the Focus IPA, I decided to leave the brewery with a classier, brew with higher alcohol content. My bartender Blake was very friendly and allowed me to pay him in an unconventional manner when the power was out, due to a recent car crash. I would definitely return to this establishment next time I'm in the Sarasota area. read more
