The trainers genuinely care about helping both dogs and owners succeed. While some of the feedback can be tough to hear at first, its all with the goal of creating clarity and consistency for the dog---and it really works. We quickly realized that many behavior issues came from our own mixed signals or inconsistent commands. The trainers are knowledgeable, patient, and make sure corrections are fair and appropriate. The progress we've seen has been amazing, and our home is so much more balanced as a result. The classes have also been great for socialization, which we know is just as important as training. Our pup absolutely loves going---it's fun, structured, and rewarding. We'll definitely continue with future classes and highly recommend this program to anyone looking to build a strong bond with their dog.

As the only ones with smaller dogs, we felt she was unpleasant toward us. She spoke to us unkindly and repeatedly tried to push her collars and leashes, insisting that our martingale collars were cheap, even though they worked perfectly throughout the training. Another trainer was also unnecessarily aggressive, making us feel as if we didn't know what we were doing. This treatment occurred every week, leaving us feeling so singled out that we decided to skip the last class and never returned. The classes are also held in a parking lot, depending on the location, which wasn't ideal. After this experience, I found some free online classes that were more effective. I regret paying for the service we received and wouldn't recommend this place unless they take this feedback constructively. Hopefully, both the owner and some of the trainers can work on improving their people skills.

Unfortunately I failed to do my due diligence in looking into Gold Country. Mike Flores, Owner and husband of Cherie Flores assisted us during the booking and duration of stay with my two dogs. Now, there are several complaints on Yelp about his customer service skills or lack there of. Which is very true. But because I know how to deal with difficult people I was able to get through my conversations with him with out any major conflicts. Yes, Mike lacks manners, and is very suspicious of anyone entering his property. Very guarded and and unwelcoming but I think that's just the way he is. Second the facility they place our dogs. Not sure if what they advertise really exist or if they even provide the services they offer. There are no pictures of the kennel besides the "virtual tour" which is a prerecorded video with a power point presentation with picture of the so called kennel. But as customers, we are not allowed to see where our dogs are housed in person. I find it strange that we have to drop/pickup in a separate building. The property seems to be deteriorating in person compared to the pictures from their website. I paid for additional services such at the relaxation package and activity package but I don't have any evidence that these services were rendered. I packed food for my dogs and when I picked them up it seems that all the food I provided was gone. Once home, I fed my dogs and they eating like they haven't been fed for days. And they drank so much water... again all speculation but observing my dogs behavior and habits it seem they did not eat or drink very much. I also paid for a "report card" detailing their daily progress of their stay which I never received. During the scheduled pickup day (Monday 8-9) which states in there email there was no one there. I called multiple times and messages them on Facebook but no response. I decided to drive into the property and went to a residential home assuming it was the home of Mike. I started knocking and making my presence known. He came out and of course was confrontational asked what I was doing there. Long story short, he ended up making an excuse that he forgot about the pickup and asked that I wait back in the pickup and drop-off building. Side Note, the residential property was fenced off and I heard lots of dogs in cages. I also found a dog in the transport van they used that seemed to be there overnight. Again the property did not appear to be in good condition. I do not believe my dogs where in any of those cages but I can only speculate if they were other customers dogs. The kicker to all this was when I called after my dogs stay to see if they would accommodate a Sunday pick up. Mike said they were closed on weekends and didn't have staff to help accommodate our request. This statement brought up many concerns. If he said they didn't have staff, then who is caring for all the dogs in their care? My dogs stayed the weekend and now I questioned if they were cared for at all. Well I did further research and found out that the Amador County Animal control licenses these types of establishments. I inquired to see if Gold Country had any complaints filed against them or if they property had been inspected. The receptionist stated she didn't work in that unit but stated Cherie Flores works with her agency and helps trains law enforcement and search and rescue dogs. At this point, I decided not to ask anymore questions as Gold Country has a relationship with this agency. I feel that even if I wanted to file a complaint, it would fall on deaf ears. So please do your research. I will never use them again.

The staff is very friendly and helpful and so well informed. I love that they are thorough in their work to check in about her needs and always make sure to keep us updated if anything pop up. They are very nice, knowledgeable, and demonstrate to you so it is easy to understand and learn with your dog and family. They are passionate about teaching and it clearly shows. We live the outdoor training in the field and the speakers they use you are able to hear what they are saying and they answer all your questions. We look forward going to the Saturday classes with our golden retriever (Bella). They are amazing!!!!! I highly recommend this class to all breeds of dogs . They are the best! We contacted Bark Busters in Livermore due to strong reviews. That trainer referred us to the trainer covering our area, Sarah Harrington. She assured us she had handled similar cases many times and that their method--different from traditional training--could correct the behavior, although there is no guarantee. Based on that, we agreed to proceed despite the high cost. The fee is $1,875 (lifetime training), paid in full upfront. In hindsight, that should have given us pause. At the initial visit, our dog reacted very negatively--barking continuously and backing away. This was unusual, as he is normally friendly with new people. The trainer also appeared fearful, explaining she had recently been bitten by another dog. A significant portion of the session was spent reading from a binder rather than actively engaging with us or demonstrating techniques until after the total fee was paid in full. This method does not use treats at all. We followed the approach consistently for over three weeks. Instead of improving, our dog became more fearful, his personality seemed to change, and the aggression worsened. When we raised concerns, we were told to continue. The trainer did not proactively check in; we were told follow-up was our responsibility. Given the seriousness of the issue and the cost, we expected more support. We ultimately decided to stop. No partial refund was offered. We were told the contract would become void if we did not re-engage within seven days. We were also cautioned about posting a negative Yelp review. We are sharing our experience so others can make an informed decision. We hope your experience is better than ours.
