    Heaven's Cakes - Lemon meringue tart (€3.50)

They were only €2 each, which seems amazing really. They were both fruit-nut combinations - one had plums on top while the other had rhubarb and the nuts were pistachio and almond. Both were delicious and I have to say I preferred them to the tart I tried from the Queen of Tarts in Dublin a few days later. Heaven's cakes tarts and pastries are a little more rustic looking but I actually prefer them that way. I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact. Here are some pros and cons: Pro: *You're supporting an independent, family-run business. *They provide a simple paper bag (preferable to boxes with plastic windows). *They appear to support community events like a healthy eating day at a local school Cons: *I don't know much about their ingredients - would be nice to know a few things, e.g., are eggs free range? Any organic ingredients used? Where is fruit sourced? Etc. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me! (greenstarsproject)

My latest purchase consisted of two French style tartlets: one a Berry and Almond mix, the other of Lemon Curd (photo), €2.00 each. Both were delicious. Service is always good and, while the wrapping may not be quite up to the French standard, it is not far off it and, in any case, is totally adequate. Web is www. We ordered a dark chocolate hot chocolate, a dark chocolate hot chocolate espresso, and a white chocolate cookie. Now say that three times fast. Everything was wonderfully chocolate-y, though my friend mentioned she probably would have preferred the milk chocolate hot chocolate. All in all, a solid spot for a quick break during the day.

I was freaked out on a recent trip home to see my favourite chocolate shop closed up and the interior gutted. It wasn't dead though, just waiting to be resurrected. They've expanded into the unit next door, and now it's a far nicer place to sit and sip your hot chocolate or pick up some sugar-filled nibbles. The main change is an increase in seating, and the splitting of the store in chocolate and coffee sections.Hopefully this will mean service will get quicker, especially when the Christmas rush kicks in and those chocolates start jumping off the shelves. As for a recommendation, if you can handle the sugar, get a milk and white. If you want something a bit different, the dark praline is a real treat.

The fish was cooked perfectly! The seafood chowder had great bites of mussels. The brie was lovely EXCEPT we didn't like that the bread that the brie was on, was placed directly on top of salad with dressing. It made it messy and we did not like the flavour.

The outside of the building definitely draws you in and once you are close enough to look inside there is no turning back. They have a full restaurant as can be seen in the photo I submitted of the outside, but once you enter you realize they are also a full bakery and have a great assortment of all kinds of scones and baked goods as well as many breakfast and lunch items. I ended up getting a cappuccino and slice of a quiche and both were excellent. My wife ended up getting a scone which was also terrific and a latte. We also had an 18 month old with us and we were surprised that they catered well to children and had baby chairs as well. This is a place where it is welcoming and once you sit down, it is hard to leave. Service was friendly and quick and if we were staying in Killarney longer, there would have definitely been a repeat visit to this place. We will look to visit this place on our next trip to Killarney.

Scurry away your thoughts of grabbing some java at a convenience store (or even at your hotel) and saddle on up to my newest, most favorite spot on earth. Filter is here to save your day! On a recent weekend morning I was up early (thanks baby!) and in need of coffee. While leisurely strolling along the river (and with a bit of help from my Yelp app) I came upon Filter, which was just opening its doors, hauling in jugs of milks for their coffee artistry endeavors. A sign if I ever saw one. Caffeine was to be mine. My latte was gorgeous (photo below) and hit the spot. The real stuff. I wish there was a Filter in every city in which I visit in the world, I'd not have to worry about caffeine reduction anxiety. Ha, I'm kidding! Sort of. *Small seating area (a few high tables) and pastries/light sandwiches on offer as well.

I had a Guatemalan filter coffee with a distinct taste of chocolate, delicious! I'm not a coffee Nerd, not really, but I know when I walk into a place and i'm out of my depth that something special is happening. Filter Coffees, weird coffee paraphernalia... soya milk! This place is gonna be massive for O'Sullivan's Quay. They built the place themselves, laid the floor, made the counters from old doors and wardrobes. Its a TINY space, but there is a more space than you think to sit, around by the espresso bar etc.... Despite the fact that I live on the other side of the city, I will be visiting this tasty little spot regularly. Its worth the walk.
