Message to ALKA V. Vegetarians should eat at home. There is not a single reason for them to take up restaurant space. Veg is something to eat with food and should never be the main meal. By the way, the bathrooms are as clean as you find in 5 star hotels - The service is excellent + the servers bent over backwards to ensure our enjoyment & place is very small so expect some noise. We stopped going here because after time spent in the orient, we find the Dim Sum mediocre at best and driving 70 minutes for mediocre dishes with limited selection is not with our while. Best dim sum in KW region. Like seriously, some of their dishes are really good, some are even better than the dim sum in Toronto. Environment The restaurant is located in downtown Kitchener, but the store front is a little hard to find due to the construction. There's free parking around the restaurant. Now don't get turned off by what you see from the outside, even though the building does seem pretty run down from the outside, the interior is actually nicely renovated. However, the restaurant is really small, and thus really noisy. Food The menu was very limited compared to large Toronto dim dim restaurants, but they do feature the typical dim sum dishes. Some of the dishes that I liked includes the egg yolk buns, steamed rice roll with BBQ pork, and chicken feet. I think the steamed rice roll was better than many Toronto dim sum restaurants that I tried, because it's very hard to make the rice skin really thin and smooth. They didn't put the price on the ordering sheet, so when we got the bill it was a bit of a surprise. Oh and splitting the bill will be 20% extra. Service I think they are a little under staffed, so sometimes it was frustrating to call for the server. I wish they could have included the price of the dishes on the menu, hence the one point deduction from the rating. But overall this is a good restaurant for dim sum in the KW region. read more

The food was excellent. Very tasty but a bit too greasy for me (oh the heartburn afterwards!) However they had many rules which I find quite unreasonable -the price is not written on the menu (which is rare in other dim sum places). I had to ask the waitress to write it down so we have a rough idea of how much to expect on the bill -tea is $1.75 extra (also not common practice. It is usually free) -they charge 20% extra for separate bills?! Like who does that? -$10 minimum order -only three options for tips: 15%, 20% or 25%. (For what? For dropping food off at my table? There was minimal table service the whole time) -even hot sauce is an extra $0.5?! Came here for dim sum with the fam. Service was typical of a Chinese dim sum restaurant especially with how busy it was in there. The food was actually really good, I'd say the best dim sum I've had in kw (though I haven't yet tried king tin so I will have to try it next), but not very special (I better leave these visits for when I'm craving and can't make it to toronto). The reason I couldn't give them more than three stars is because some of the food items were not as expected (calamari was body, battered, and fried as opposed to large seasoned tentacles, turnip cake was too doughy, chicken feet was too soft at the bone), they charge for tea and hot sauce, and they are missing a lot of what I'd consider dim sum essentials. I always need mustard with my dim sum. That wasabi/horseradish/Dijon flavour is one of the things I look forward to when I go for dim sum. This was a huge disappointment. They were also missing deep fried taro balls with pork (oh well, the spring rolls will have to do and they were actually quite tasty), and the preserved egg congee. Solid dim sum! Came here for lunch with a group of 3 one weekday and didn't have any trouble getting seats. Service was quick and no frills as to be expected at a Chinese restaurant. We ordered the shiu mai, har gow, turnip cakes, pan fried dumplings, bbq pork buns, and bbq pork rice rolls. Everything was great! The har gow tasted very fresh and it was loaded with so much shrimp (more than usual). Everything was steaming hot and fresh when it came out. I also personally loved the pan fried dumplings as well. We were disappointed to hear that they have discontinued their egg tarts and they seemed to only have mango pudding in their desserts section but that's okay! These guys know how to make sesame chicken. Even though it's about $15.26 for a single serving, they serve it without the sauce on it to keep it fresh. The sauce is provided in a separate container. In addition, they also gave us a similar size container to the sauce one full of jasmine tea, gratis. They also included Chinese fortune cookies. Went there for the first time recently and I have to say that I was quite impressed. The restaurant's exterior wasn't that pretty but the interior was much nicer. It was also quite busy so I'd recommend you make. Reservation first. I had the Imperial Pork Chops, Chop Suey, Cantonese Chow Mien and the hotspot Sea Bass. Food quality was pretty good and overall it was fresh. It had generally favorable presentation as well. Serving sizes were large for what you pay. My only reservation was that the food was a little oily for my tastes. For some authentic Cantonese food, I'd recommend this place without hesitation. read more

I believe it is safe to say it's the best dim sum in Kitchener waterloo region. Great variety of dim sums compare to other dim sum in kw region, and the materials are all fresh, the taste is good. It is not very easy to find this place, it's located at a personal house. But there is a restaurant label at the front door. The first time we went this place was at 12:00, and there has already been a very long queue. We waited for half an hour at this place, the waiting seats are not enough for the people waiting there. So we stood there for half an hour. That was not so good. But the food is worth the wait. All foods are cooked very well. All foods with rice are especially delicious, maybe the rice they chose was special. Although they don't have the great variety of dim sum like in toronto, but that was so far the best in kw region. I love dim sum, and this place just took dim sum to a whole other level for me. While I have always been nervous to go to dim sum restaurants that require you to order your food from a list, rather than a cart, I went here with my family and we managed to navigate our way through the menu and what a delicious meal we had! The portion sizes here are huge, so while the prices may appear to be higher than other dim sum places you might be used to, keep in mind that you are getting more food for the price you are paying! Because we did not realize this at the time, we ended up ordering more food than we could finish, so we ended up taking home some leftovers! Like many dim sum places around town, this place gets very busy, very quickly. If you want to be sure to get a table, make sure you get there by 11:30. During this meal, the big hits were: 1. OMG I love this place! I go on Sundays around 11:30am for Dim Sum. If you arrive after 12:00 good luck, the place gets packed and you'll get stuck waiting in the lobby for a table. This place is not expensive. I don't know why people say this place is pricey. If it was any cheaper I'd think the food was recycled. Servers are friendly, English is limited. Order the pan fried pork dumplings, pepper ribs, steamed pork buns, and sticky rice with meat wrapped in lotus leaf. I'm drooling just writing this. When you enter, you'll find that they're pretty proud for winning awards for being the best Chinese restaurant in Waterloo. Therefore, I had pretty high expectations going into the restaurant. I was hoping that it would be authentic stuff. We waited for 20-30 minutes for a table. I'll tell you that it's not authentic Cantonese dim sum. It is most definitely the most authentic "Canadian Chinese" food ever. Everything I ate was sweet, even the things that aren't supposed to be. One of my favourite dim sum foods--the rice wrapped in lotus leaf (jun jue gai) is always made savory, but their's tasted like it was dipped in syrup. They also used bbq pork in the jun jue gai instead of conpoy, mushroom, or even chicken (the GAI in the name means chicken). They used pork instead of chicken. I ordered a lot of things that day and none of them tasted as they should because everything had some superficial sweetness to it. Cantonese cuisine should not taste so... gaudy. Also, the dim sum variety is quite limited. As for the waiters/waitresses, there was only one person that spoke Cantonese there (a guy). I think the others were Mandarin and Filipino. Not really a problem, it was just confusing because there was a waitress that kept speaking Mandarin to me. I kept trying to speak Cantonese, but always had to fall back to English. Considering all of the high reviews on Yelp for this restaurant, I was very confused when I left. I came on a weekend for dim sum with two others, and we ordered a lot so we could try everything (bill came down to $20 each, which is absurd for dim sum). Cameron is the certainly the best dim sum in KW but there really isn't much competition. When you first drive in, it almost seems like you're going to a trailer park home but the decor inside is actually very nice and sophisticated. It can get quite crowded for weekend dim sum especially on Sundays. Cameron attempts to be more a 'fine' Chinese dining experience and all the dim sum items are done to this style. The selection is mostly standard; there definitely were a few staple items missing and I didn't really notice any specialty dim sum items. Best chinese food in KW! This place is a bit out of the way for most students like myself, but it is worth the distance for the food here. I've come here for dinner several times, and have not been disappointed with any dish. I especially really enjoyed the soup (seafood? I forget the name), and the eggplant and meat dish. I came once for peking duck ( I had to order a day in advance). I ordered 2 ducks for 10 people and it was a good amount, though we ordered other dishes as well. For $35/duck, I thought it was a great value for 2 courses. The first course is the duck/duck skin with pancakes. The second was stir fried with vegetables and they gave us lettuce to wrap it in. I also came once for dim sum, and thought it was spectacular. The only dish that wasn't good was the steamed pork bun. Food (10/10) Man the food was just great here. Everything on the menu is done very well and the flavors are a good balance between authentic and approachable. I had a nice mix of seafood, chicken and beef dishes, and everything was great! No complaints here. Atmosphere (5/5) They seem to have melted together an old house with a bunch of portable containers and created this Frankenstein creation of a building. I actually think the irony of how wacky the restaurant looks from the outside absolutely hilarious. Because when you enter the establishment you'll be blown away! Tbh, I don't even live in Canada and I don't really hand out five stars liberally, but hear me out. Read this review without any bias on the 3.5 stars this was given. This place looks like it's located in the middle of nowhere, but don't be mistaken, this place will go above your expectations. Literally the most beautiful hole in the wall. The restaurant itself is nice and clean inside. When you order the food, you are about to indulge in probably the most wholesome Chinese food in your life. The reason I say this is because literally everything that I ordered from this place (I ordered about 10 items), tasted just as good as the previous item I ordered. My personal favorites would have to be the Beef Short Ribs, Chicken Feet, and Black Bean Spare Ribs. These items especially will make you come back for more. But those Beef ribs though. Literally the most satisfying, tender, semi-sweet, savory, umami flavored ribs I've ever had. Usually, short ribs are cooked with a particularly sweet sauce that can sometimes be overdone, but this place gets it absolutely on point. The chicken feet is also so good. It's so tender and the sauce is so savory and addictive that just makes you so happy, like even better than having a girlfriend. Trust me daddy. The pork ribs. SMH, I don't even have to speak for that. I typed all of this for you to read, just go and try it. But overall, this place is really special. Reason being because it exceeded my expectations from being a typical hole in the wall, to something authentic, and paying homage to honest comfort food. Every dish you try will get better as you order, even from the most unsexy sounding dishes like Turnip cake. Yeah it sounds weird, but give it a try. It's probably the best turnip cake I've had. A decent restaurant though a bit on the expensive side. Pretty much like the last reviewer, despite growing up in the area, I hadn't been to the place in over 8 years. It's been a bit of a local Chinese establishment and the quality has varied over the years. It's changed dramatically since I was last there. The place actually looks nice now - tastefully done (which frankly is rare for Chinese restaurants in the area where decor generally feels like an afterthought). It can get a bit loud because it's a stone type tile floor. The service is competent but as another reviewer noted, probably not that friendly (and oddly they don't seem to speak Chinese). We had dimsum this afternoon with 7 adults - 4 male, 3 female, and the bill came to $115 including tip which is a bit expensive for the area. I can't say that the food was amazing. It was competent (though if you don't eat dimsum much, you probably won't care). The fried foods seemed a bit oilier than they needed to be but our favorite dish seemed to be the steamed rice noodle roll with mushrooms and chicken which is somewhat unusual but was a specialty on their list. If it weren't for the lack of relative value in the area, I would have given them 4 stars. This isn't a big place so reservations are recommended. read more

Hands down the BEST dim sum place in KW area. Went in around noon on a weekend, and waited 15 mins to get seated. Compared to a lot of popular places in Toronto, it was not bad. We ordered our staples (lotus leaf wrapped chicken, egg yolk bun, etc), and also ordered their lotus seed paste bun. Everything is amazing, especially the egg yolk bun, the filling is bit runny and warm. I finished all of them by myself, with NO shame. Definitely will return, and super friendly staff! read more

I was glad to hear l learn that there was a good place for dim sum in the area, and Cameron's lived up to their reputation. The service was friendly and prompt and the restaurant was spotless, including the bathrooms (not always the case in other Chinese restaurants). We had all the dim sum classics (siu mai, har gao, etc) and I thought everything was well done. One point off for missing our order for pan fried dumplings (in the end, we were already full and just decided to forget about them). Also, as a matter of personal preference I would prefer cart service to ordering off of a card, but that's not a huge deal. read more

I've gone to Cameron's for a few years now, so I'm writing this review based on my entire experiences. I agree with a lot of other reviewers, for Chinese food, it is on the pricey side. However, the quality of both the 'Canadian' Chinese and the dim sum is outstanding. You pay for what you get, and if you're looking for the best, this is it. The location and parking lot isn't ideal, but they've done well with what little space they have to work with. Last year they improved renovations in the dining room, and it's quite nice inside. Service is very satisfactory, and the menu is a paper menu but certainly has all the required items. The food often comes out as fast as you can eat it. Truly a hidden gem in KW for Chinese food. The food quality is delicious. The atmosphere is clean and modern. The service can be slow, but overall it's bearable and worth it for the food. Man the nest was just something I couldn't get enough of; crunchy and tasty. The honey garlic chicken, in my opinion, was just okay. Not as great as the other two. But nothing wrong with it either. Atmosphere [4/5] The decor is a complete contrast to its exterior. It's very luxurious, modern and clean. In fact, this is the cleanest Chinese place I've been to my whole life. Alright so I've been here once and I plan to return as soon as I can to try their dim sum, because I came here for dinner one night. Was looking for some Chinese food in Kitchener, this place popped up on the search, VERY luckily for me. So I've tried their dinner service and now need to try their dim sum! I got sweet and sour pork or somethin like that, my mom got honey garlic chicken, we also got fried rice and egg rolls. EVERYTHING. WAS. DELICIOUS!!! And the service was great, friendly, fast, the place was nice inside, I loved everything about it. Only reason I'm not coming here all the time is it's pricey lol. But WORTH THE PRICE. As a girl raised on typical Canadian Chinese takeout, I was nervous to try this place, but went along for DIm Sum with my man and his family. WOW! I was hooked! The food is amazing and have a lot of familiar elements so I wasn't afraid to try them. As well, had the Peking duck on one visit and again was blown away. A lot of dishes to choose from, hot, well cooked and a delight to eat. The restaurant is tiny but perfect. I think any bigger and the ambiance wouldn't be the same.
