This Congee Queen is located in the Heartland Town Centre shopping area. It is a large location with many tables with an area for larger groups or when the restaurant get busier. It is a nice local spot to get your Chinese food cravings fixed. Their menu seems to be the same for all locations, the only difference being the price, all locations potentially the same other than the downtown location. It has been a while since we have eaten at the Congee Queen outside of the Toronto (Dundas/Yonge) location, so we were a bit surprised at the price difference (8-10% difference). This location (Heartland Town Center) feels like it has the right price for the menu. With cash, you also get a 10% discount. We were here on a Wednesday for an early dinner around 15:30 - 17:00 and it was about medium full for the main area. People were coming and going at a good pace. For our group of four, we ordered: - B3 Salmon Congee $11 ($12 downtown) - H11 Chicken Salted Fish Fried Rice $18.25 ($19.75 downtown) - K34 Fried Bean Curd with Veggie $19.50 ($21.50 downtown) - K42 Salt and Pepper Squid $16.50 ($18.25 downtown) - K53 Fried Chili Turnip Cakes $13.75 ($15.00 downtown) Service was a bit slow, but not the longest as there were only 2-3 staff taking orders that day for about 15-20 tables. If you signaled for assistance, they will come. Once ordered thought, the food came out in about 5 mins and all the dishes were ready soon after. Tea is refilled on request, just ask. As usual, the fried rice and congee is what they are known for, it was excellent as usual. Depending on the group you go with, YMMV, but for our order combination, this usually works comes out at the same time and everything is hot and tasty. The turnip cakes are the softer type and they even accommodated checking for shrimp. They are usually good about seafood checks. All in all, great experience. With the discount and tips all in, it was less than $100 total at $25 per person. It has been a while since we've eaten out with a group at that price point. The Queen has become sloppy. Congee Queen has long been one of our family's go-to restaurants. So for a family occasion, we headed again to the Heartland location with its distinct high ceiling resembling cool porcelain. This place was packed as usual with a waitlist register at the front. We didn't wait long to be seated but the service and dishes were generally disappointing. After dropping off a pot of tea, no one bothered to check in on us again. While we usually have the super bowl congee, the exorbitant prices nowadays for porridge that we can make at home with a blender is difficult to justify. Instead we had Empress Fried Rice ($22) that was served like slop but was still nicely balanced between sweet unagi glaze topped with bonito flakes. We cleaned the sides to make it more presentable for our meal. The dishes that followed next were hit & miss on the seasoning. Sweet Corn Garoupa Fillet ($24.25) was served with the battered fish along side a cup of thick corn soup but lacked flavour whether we dipped in the soup or not. Similarly the Mixed Fungus & Fried Gluten in Hot Pot ($24.25) was also light on flavour despite being one of our usual go-to dishes here with good variety of mushrooms. While Stir Fried Sirloin with Rice Roll in Satay Sauce ($18.75) was quite savoury with a good amount of sirloin chunks but too salty. Skip it or hit it? I echo what most have already said about this restaurant. It is busy for both lunch and dinner. Offers an expansive menu of authentic Chinese dishes. Service was quick. However, you better get your order and everything you want in one go, because they don't come back to serve you, and they're quite dismissive in their attitude towards you. They are all about getting you in, getting your food, and getting you out of here. If it wasn't for the taste, which was quite good, I would subtract more stars. However, the dishes I ordered, which include seafood fried rice and fish and tofu pot, were quite delicious. I would order both again, but there are plenty of options on their dinner and lunch menu I would try. Came here for family lunch on Sunday. We made reservations ahead of time of course. I recommend if you are planning to come here you should do it as it is ALWAYS busy here. Jenny made everything so smooth from ordering, to our requests and up until we finished up paid the bill. She was patient and kind which is what you need when being this busy. We brought our 2 yr old son, so it was the 3 of us .. we saw waitresses going around to other tables wishing them a happy mother's day all cheerful, but when they got to our table, they just said hello and asked if we were ready to order. Every time I'm in town, I make it a point to visit Congee Queen--it never disappoints. This is hands down the best Chinese food in Toronto. Our table of six ordered enough for twelve because the menu is so diverse, and everything looked too good to pass up. The large round tables with Lazy Susans make sharing dishes seamless, and the service was top-notch. Our server, Jenny, went above and beyond--attentive, friendly, and even packed and labeled our leftovers to go. She also offered to take a family photo for us, which was a thoughtful touch. Congee Queen was surprisingly really good. This location is next to Seafood City at the Heartland Town Centre. The interior is very spacious and can seat a lot of tables. Parking is easy. They have a very big parking lot. Bathroom is in the back. The menu is quite extensive. It's really hard to decide what to get. When in doubt, go with the congee. It's what they're called anyway, right? There was a wait even at 9 PM on a weekday. I only had a party of two, but they told me 10-15 minutes. During this time, I tried reading the menu items. It was so hard; they have too many choices! They even have cool drinks. There is a small waiting area with a bench by the entrance. I ended up getting a bunch of food so of course I had leftovers. Absolutely unacceptable experience at Congee Queen. The service was shockingly rude from start to finish. In particular, a young female staff member displayed extremely unprofessional behavior. I heard her using profanity openly in front of customers, which is already unacceptable in any setting. Even more disturbing, she appeared to assume I did not understand Chinese and spoke negatively about customers right in front of me. Whether intentional or not, this kind of behavior is deeply disrespectful and completely inappropriate. On top of that, a middle-aged manager approached and immediately spoke Cantonese without even asking if I understood, showing zero awareness or consideration for basic customer communication. This was not just poor service -- it felt disrespectful, exclusionary, and frankly insulting. In a city as diverse as this, there is no excuse for this level of unprofessionalism. So fluffy and potato-like, savoury with a little kick to it. The cheung fun was good but had to ask for more of the sweet soy dipping sauce, didn't feel like it was enough so I needed more flavour. I've been here many times and can honestly say that the food here is amazing. I specifically always get the deep fried chicken wings, sweet and sour chicken, and fried rice with salted fish and chicken. I'm not quite sure how exactly they make the rice and wings but when I get it from here it always hits the spot. The fried rice has this perfect salty savoury flavour that I can't recreate at home and the chicken wings are always super crispy and piping hot when you get them! I think the way they designed the seating arrangements is well thought out. They really maximized the available space without making the place seem stuffy or messy. They have seating for pretty much any group size from a cozy couple to a whole extended family (10+ people). Service is pretty fast and straight to the point so no complaints there. I just finished lunch at Congee Queen with my husband, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. I ordered the Cantonese Chow Ho Fun, but the BBQ pork and mushrooms had a sour taste. After hearing a couple people hype up Congee Queen, the experience I had this past Friday afternoon was nothing more than mediocre. If you go on a weekday afternoon, you can take advantage of some of the deals (lunch set combos) they have, which is getting a free drink with select entrees. SHREDDED PORK & GOLD PRESERVED EGG CONGEE - 9 This was probably my favorite out of everything we ordered. It was hot and hit the spot with its familiar flavors of minced pork and preserved egg. While it was a bit bland and the texture was more on the gloopy side, I enjoyed it and was reminded of my mom's congee. SLICED FISH CONGEE - 9.75 This one felt incredibly bland and the sliced tilapia in the congee was overcooked and dry. I couldn't really taste much of the sea brininess that I'd expect for a fish-based congee. A bit of dried scallops in the congee would have done the trick to enhance the flavor. Overall, disappointing. ASSORTED SHREDDED MEAT CHOW MEIN - 16.50 The noodles themselves had a good texture. You can get a bit of crispy noodles along with noodles that have been soaked in the gravy for a longer period of time. However, I wouldn't recommend getting this with meat. I highly recommend getting the seafood option which is a classic. I also wasn't a fan of the bell peppers that were stir-fried in, haha. ROASTED DUCK RICE I forgot the price for this, but it might have been 14-15. Lots of rice, more than we can eat but it's good rice. The duck looked good but the taste was plain and underwhelming. There wasn't much duck meat but lots of skin/fat and bones. The duck looked juicy (because the skin was glistening) but the meat itself was dry. The veggies on the side were bland. I wouldn't recommend this here. LEMON TEA Three of us got the lemon tea for our drink of choice because we wanted something refreshing and citrusy to go along with our meal. The drink comes in a nice glass with a few slices of lemon. It looked refreshing and you'd think that the lemon slices would add character to the drink. However, the drink was nothing but sugar. It was incredibly sweet and I immediately recoiled upon first sip. If you aren't a huge sweet tooth, this drink really isn't for you. I'd highly consider something else. One of my friends got the "Fresh Red Bean Freeze with Ice Cream" drink and it was probably 2/3 ice cream and 1/3 red bean. He enjoyed his drink for what it was and would recommend that over the lemon tea everyone else got. Overall, our experience was mediocre.
