The entire workout is fast-paced and tends to fly by because of the fun and friendly environment. It took me 8 years to reach my black belt in taekwondo; I taught for 10 years and reached my third degree; I competed actively in kickboxing for 6 years; I did aikido for 5 years during which time I was one of my sensei's (who was one of the first to bring aikido to the east coast of FL) first uchideshi, or live in student. I lived and breathed martial arts for most of my life. I found Stoneybrook Karate after my son expressed interest in learning martial arts. I thought I was going to have a terrible time looking for a school that that wasn't a "McDojo" or daycare in the guise of a karate school, let alone meet my high standards. I was pleasantly surprised to find a school that has: ***a head instructor who attained his yudansha (black belt) in Okinawa--the birthplace of traditional karate ***several kids that are nationally and internationally ranked competitors that help with the kids classes ***a competition team that is serious about competing in legitimate tournaments ***a strict, disciplined teaching approach that delivers results Sensei Tim is a no-nonsense instructor who teaches karate in a way it was taught to him in Okinawa.
