With few dining options in Clinton, this is a good place for standard American Mexican food. Quick and food is what is expected. Over last couple years it has slipped a bit. Still good for a meal. Never knew this was here until now. Easy to get into, fast friendly staff, and fast service. Good vegetarian selection as well if you don't care for the spicy meat selections, go early on a weekend night as it tends to get crowded later and later. We visited CAMINO REAL during a short trip to Clinton, IL. My wife and I shared an order of chicken fajitas but got our own jumbo margaritas. She prefers "on the rocks", but I like mine "frozen" (blended). The salsa with the appetizer chips had good flavor and texture... blended but still chunky. The sizzling chicken fajitas were tasty. And the margaritas were fabulous... some of the best restaurant margaritas we have enjoyed. The staff was helpful, friendly, and responsive. It was a busy night, but we were greeted and seated in a short time. Looking forward to our next trip to Clinton, so we can try some other entrees at CAMINO REAL. read more

First time here, and this place was great!!! The food was amazing, it came out super fast, and the service was spectacular. Got the arroz con pollo and it was some of the best Mexican I have had in a long time. It was also refreshing to be able to dine inside. This is by far the best Mexican food in central Illinois. The salsa was great! And the queso was awesome as well! I had the Sincronizada with steak. I read another review on Yelp and it sounded good so I tried it. I was very happy with my choice. The steak was seasoned really well and cooked perfectly. I was recommended to Camino Real by a couple coworkers. This place needs to seriously consider expanding. It was packed and the sitting area is small. The people next to us might as well joined our conversation because they were seated so close. Our server was attentive and friendly. He was funny too. One of our friends was late. She didn't have silverware yet. She asked for it. He said, "No, you were late." He said it with a straight face too which made it all the better. The cheese dip was good. Nice and gooey. The salsa was excellent. The official name escapes me but I had chorizo and steak tacos. I was a little disappointed they used flour tortillas. Maybe because it's a small town they cater to what the locals like. Tacos should always come in corn tortillas unless requested otherwise. I'd still rate them as good because they were packed with meat. They also come with a small thing of cheese sauce to put on them. The pico de gallo was almost colorless. I avoided using it. Camino Real had it unrolled w/ a different cheese sauce. Place in FLA had it rolled w/ a different sauce but both were fabulous! Yes seating can be cramped, yes its in a strip mall next to Wallyworld but so what. This place is best in Clinton, Lincoln and surrounding areas, so being privately owned, get over there & enjoy urself! Prices good , food good & u know what? Had a great lunch at Camino Real. The service was speedy, the prices were great and the food was yummy. My husband had the enchilada, burrito and tamale. I had the Chile releno, taco and guacamole salad. The food was served piping hot, just as we like it. Why would you go to a fast food Mexican restaurant when you can go to Camino Real instead? The food is very tasty and service is very good. The restaurant is a little small and cramped but do understand based on limited location options without major capital investment. I would highly recommend the fajitas. The portion was way more than I could handle. The meat was tender and the veggies cooked to perfection. There are also lunch specials with prices under $5. We have enjoyed them as well with the same satisfaction. Highly recommend this place. Peak times sometimes result in a bit of a wait-But it's worth the wait. Nice folks that run this place. I've been a regular at this restaurant since it opened. Love the food and the service. They always add in jalapeños to my dish whenever I ask them and they are fresh, not from a jar! I also love a place that has 4 different hot sauces sitting on the table. It gets a little packed around supper time since this place is so popular so seating may be at a premium at times. read more
