This place looked like it was the best option based on the number of vehicles in the parking lot. Nothing but friendly smiles from every member of the staff. It had a family friendly atmosphere even for a stranger just passing through. The delectable food options were plentiful on the menu. Had a great lunch at this location on Friday. I have never eaten at the Winchester, TN. Location in the past, but both the food and service were great during the lunch rush. The wait staff and management were on point and quickly seated, took orders, and served about 12 tables in about 10 minutes. I had a quick shrimp cocktail (Cocktel de Camarones). I know, it's my staple...I can't help it, I just love them, and they are light enough that they don't weigh you down and make you tired or lethargic the rest of the work day. read more

We are from out of town and tried this new restaurant since the other Mexican restaurant we have gone to for the last 5 years was horrible. Initially we were nervous going since it wasn't very busy but we did. I'm so glad we did. The service was great!! The food tasted like a home cooked meal it was fresh and wonderful. Super impressed with the food!!! We are gluten free family and half of us are vegan and we found enough options to have. The staff was super friendly and knew their menu :). We were excited to stop in and try this restaurant based off of reviews. However we were extremely disappointed by the service, nobody came to check on us, they took almost twenty minutes to take our order. Our food was poorly made and we had to remind them to get our daughters fries twice and they brought them out right when we were getting up to leave. Keep going, find something else. I ordered three empanadas and a side of beans. Our waiter said empanadas are still made even though not on the menu and they were $2.50 each. He brought 5 and said we wouldn't be charged for the other 2. They tasted like frozen dough and the meat filling was simple hamburger meat without any seasoning. They were so oily that the grease was dripping on the plate. The bean dip was liquid. When he brought the check, we'd been charged $3.50 for empanadas and a couple of "open charges." I asked him about this and he said that no, the empanadas were $3.50. We sat waiting for the server to take our money while he was sitting in a booth. If you have the time, drive into Sewanee or even Monteagle and check out Mountain Goat Cafe and the other places. read more

Camino Real has a been a long time favorite of mine. However, in recently times the food is not consistent. Some days it's good, sometimes it's not. Also, recently they've been getting my order wrong at times. If the owner answers the phone and takes my order, there's a good chance my order will not be correct. Amazing service from the minute we entered. We were greeted kindly and seated promptly, a party of 11. It was taco Tuesday; you can't beat 99 cent tacos! The server was great and super attentive and the food was authentic and delicious, so flavorful! The salsa was great, a little spice, but not too much heat. I ordered the vegetarian enchiladas with no cheese, and he kindly made it so that the 3 enchiladas were each different as opposed to all the same. I enjoyed a spinach, a mushroom, and a potato enchilada. The corn tortillas were good and although it wasn't the best tasting enchilada sauce I've ever had, it was still very good, smokey, and flavorful. Dinner with dad; we rarely go out just the two us. He loves the shrimp alambre. I got my usual taco salad fajita with chicken. My first 4-5 bites had a strange flavor, so I tried each component separately. Turns out the guacamole was the strange flavor contributor. I decided not to mention it to the staff because the server had already gotten annoyed with me when I would not use the menu that he dropped on the floor and promptly placed on the table just before we took our seats. The BEST Mexican food AND Margaritas within 100 miles!! When I moved my parents to Winchester TN, I was astounded to discover that every Mexican restaurant was terrible! I am a Mexican food "foodie". I eat it at least 2x a week and coming from California am a bit of a Mexican food snob. FINALLY, we found this Camino Real and it is better than my favorite places in Nashville. The food is great! The margaritas are SUPER strong and SUPER tasty and high end (I order top shelf on the rocks with no salt); and the service is awesome! They are ALL about the "customer is always right". If you have a problem, they will INSIST on making it right. My parents and I eat here regularly now and don't know what we would do if we hadn't discovered them. FYI, the other Camino Reals are not the same owners and do not hold a candle to this one. read more

The Margarona ( Corona & Margarita ) was amazing, my fiancé got the Mango Margarita, it was so good he had to order another! To our surprise it was happy hour so his margaritas were half off , DOUBLE SCORE !!! Everything was amazing , I ordered the corn tortilla carna asada tacos w/ cilantro and onions I was super happy they only used 1 tortilla as 2 is too much for my liking. For an inexpensive classic tex mex style restaurant, this one is really good. The atmosphere is not quite as good as the Mexican restaurant down the street, but the food seemed much better. Great experience for a quick lunch in a small town. We were waiting on some friends to get where we were going, so we decided to stop in for some Mexican food and margaritas. Camino Real really hit the spot! The margaritas were great- cheap and strong! My friend got the BBQ fajitas and I got the Hawaiian fajitas. We wanted to try something unique to this restaurant. We both fell in love with our food. It was absolutely delicious all around. The pineapple mixed in with my peppers and onions really set it off. I doubt we will ever be around these parts again, but if we are, we know where to get some great food! Only complaint was our waitress didn't speak English, like at all. Food was inedible and service very poor. Told the server, manager came over we asked for him if we would fix it and he threw his hands in the air and said thats the way it is. Server came over took the plates that we had taken two bites of and dropped off the check as if we were supposed to pay for food we couldn't eat because of how nasty it was. I picked up at you go order for my daughter on Friday. I went to this restaurant because of the reviews it was a very big mistake. Service was so so waitress obnoxious owner / manager a jerk. I had the chicken enchilada platter and my first two bites resulted in two large splinters of bone, brought it to the attention of the waitress and now she could no longer speak English. Well well what a surprise for her I can speak Spanish. Manager came out and advised me that they use whole chickens of which they chop up bone and all which is pure nonsense.
