A guy with the last name of Widemire opened Widemire's Old Dutch Ice Cream Shoppe in 1969 using his father's recipes for his ice creams. Cammie purchased the shoppe in 1998 and continues making all of their ice cream onsite with her husband. I stopped by while I was in the area visiting something else, and I am so glad I did. The employees were friendly. Everything was clean. The peppermint ice cream was pretty darn good. Well worth making my driver stop. They even had some of my friends on display!

How awesome is it that there's an old Dutch ice cream shop on Halls Mill?? I heard something about this a while back and thought I made a mental note but I totally forgot this was here! Stopped in on our way back from Lowe's to get stuff for working in the yard. We thought we deserved a little treat in advance for the work ahead. Also, in case you haven't ever tried the lemon custard because you're thinking it'll be too sour and lemony and that isn't your thing, trust me and just taste it at least! They'll give you a taste of anything you want. Trust me, it's the best thing you ever had! They sell 1/2 gallons in a little freezer here too by the way! Yay!

Just have to say that this was a real five star ice cream experience for me! I absolutely love local ice cream shops and Cammie's is no exception. This location recently opened and is in sort of a warehouse looking building. It has a little bit of indoor seating and an outside picnic table for outdoor seating. Love the vintage vibes that this place is putting out with their ice cream and soda shop. My husband tried a maple ice cream milkshake and I had a two scoop on a doubleheader cone. Tried their rocky road and butter pecan two scoop and it was a perfect snack size. I love how the ice cream is packed on the cone horizontally instead of vertically, that just made the whole treat for me!

Best ice cream in Mobile. Really can't recommend a flavor because I keep trying new ones and loving them all! It's definitely got an old feel to it which I personally find charming. They will let you sample a flavor if you are trying to choose. Every time we go in, I just ask the person helping me what their personal flavor is. I have yet to be disappointed by any of their choices. Not much room inside (not that I think most of us want to be congested inside during these times anyway) but I usually get my ice cream and leave so it works just fine. I would recommend if you have a sweet tooth and want the good stuff.

We love both locations but the halls mill location is closer to home. We love sharing the banana split and the menu seems to be cohesive between both locations! Workers are very sweet and it always seems clean.

Why not just close for the winter at this location? Seems you'll be losing more money staying open than just throwing out the half empty containers of the remaining flavors.

I got black cherry cheesecake custard that was smooth, creamy, and delish!!! The only irritating thing was she asked me if "that was enough" when scooping. The cup wanted even half full. I guess her arm got tired? Am I assuming it's the same price if you fill it all the way or just a quarter? C'mon man! I like the fact that you can sit outside and it's quiet. The door is on the back side of the building, so you don't get as much street noise!
