Man, let me tell you about Fat Dragon Thai Food and Boba Smoothies this ain't your grandma's…read morenoodle shack; this joint is where Thai street eats crash into sweet boba bliss right in Pensacola, Florida. This food truck‑turned‑local obsession cranks out huge portions of savory pad Thai, drunken noodles, curries and spring rolls that folks on the internet swear could feed an army or at least your teenager after practice and the boba smoothies (think Thai tea, peach and honeydew) hit like a cold punch in July. "I rolled up with my daughter she's eyes wide, boba in hand like it's the Holy Grail and this dude behind the counter, I swear he looked at me like he invented noodles. The man's talking to me about the balance of sweet and savory like he's training for a TED Talk on flavor! I'm sittin' there slurpin' noodles and watching my girl swirl her boba like it's a potion from Willy Wonka's cousin! This place? It's like your taste buds got invited to a party they really shouldn't have missed." Bottom line: it's casual, it's fun, and like your daughter's smile after that first boba sip it'll stick with ya long after the last noodle's gone.

I wish I could have enjoyed the meal in a restaurant because Thai food can be tricky to eat in a car or out of a box, but it was absolutely delicious. The woman who served us was very sweet and even offered free Thai tea samples, which were super tasty. I ordered the tofu pad Thai (vegan) and it was amazing. The portion was huge, definitely enough for two people, but I was happy to have leftovers. My friend ordered the chicken drunken noodles and loved it too. The flavors were great and the portions were very generous. Highly recommend!

So these two guys Jerr (no Y) and Buster have 30 years of combined experience working for Gulf area…read morerestaurants and working together at Hangouts they decided to put their experience to the test and Beachin' Eats was born. This is a food truck that I've tried at Big Beach Brewery on several occasions, by occasion I mean drinking some great local beers, and everything that my honey and I have tried has been very good. They have been seen at the Hawaiian Cultural Center on Ono Island, the drive-in concert at Latitude 28 and San Bar among other locations but they're a mainstay attraction at Big Beach for sure. I've spent time talking with Jerr and we talk sailboat racing because he's a seasoned racer in Mobile Bay and sailors certainly love taking about their conquests. But when it comes to their food here's what I've learned. They only serve fresh seafood like triggerfish from Milton, FL. and fresh Gulf Shrimp and I've had both, they're outstanding. They put certified Angus beef in their burgers and source hydroponically grown Bibb lettuce and kumato tomatoes plus all their sauces and seasonings are made in-house. Those kinds of attention to detail make for a darn good burger and shows up in everything we're tried so far. Beyond their "basic burger" I've had the "black & blue" which has applewood bacon, arugula, blue cheese mayo and smoky onion jam on a locally made brioche bun. My next test taste will be the "redneck Riviera burger" which has pulled pork, applewood bacon, cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce and onion strings, sounds like a winner. Now let's talk tacos, they have both shrimp and triggerfish with coleslaw, aged sharp cheddar cheese, pickled red onions and their sweet & spicy Beachin' sauce plus they have chicken, pulled pork and even a vegetarian taco. You can get all these proteins in sandwich form as well as special nacho dishes with grilled chicken, BBQ pork or Gulf shrimp that can also be had as "tachos" where they substitute nachos with tator tots. Some of the other treats are their 1/2 pound of flash fried brussel sprouts. I'm not a big brussel sprout guy but I really like those here. There's queso and salsa nachos, Wisconsin cheese curbs and delish Cajun pistols. Everything on their menu pairs quite well with the beers you find at Big Beach by the way :-) Bottom line: These guys really know their stuff, the food is fresh, tasty and hot, the guys are friendly and fun. BTW they also do catering. Highly recommended! Check out their Facebook page for updates: http://facebook.com/pg/BeachinEatsOBA/

Absolutely incredible. Buttery, perfectly toasted bread, gooey melted cheese, and generous chunks of fresh, flavorful lobster... every single bite was on point! Just had the pleasure of trying these guys out yesterday and I'm impressed! Having spent many years…read morein Massachusetts and eaten all over New England, I'm picky about lobster. These guys didn't disappoint. But before I get into the food, let's talk about these newcomers. Since many people are familiar with the Cousins Maine Lobster truck (CML), which my family have been fans of for over 10 years, let's compare them to Danner's, the new kid in town. First of all, Danner's is a local Spanish Fort family business versus a massive "Shark Tank" franchise. When you look at the numbers, Danner's wins on value for the hot dishes. Their Lobster Grilled Cheese is a steal at $16 compared to the $20 Cousins charges for the same item. Their Lobster Mac & Cheese is also $16, whereas Cousins' specialty items like tacos hit the $20 mark. As for the classic Lobster Rolls, Danner's is $24 for Hot or Cold rolls. That is about a dollar more than the franchise, but Danner's explicitly markets their rolls as containing a solid 1/4 lb of meat so you know exactly what you are getting. Another huge plus is the variety. Franchise trucks often have strict menus that alienate people who don't eat seafood. Danner's solves this by offering a Philly Cheese Steak for $8.00. This is a huge "pro" for groups where one person might not like lobster. They also have the Maine Pink Hot Dog, which is the real authentic deal. Fun note: in Maine they call them Snappers, but they changed the name here so local customers wouldn't be confused with the local Snapper fish! They also offer a "Cali Lobster Roll" for $25 with bacon, avocado, and chipotle aioli if you want some culinary flair. However, for us, it's really all about the LOBSTAH. The lobster roll comes with some melted butter and a fresh lemon wedge. Here's the big comparison: My Cape Cod honey prefers her lobster almost naked with a very lobster-forward taste, and too much mayo turns her off. That checks the boxes for CML, but Danner's is a bit more "wet" for her. On the other hand, I was just fine with the little added sauce. It wasn't mayo or sweet but rather a very tasty mix of extra seasoning and herbs. Verdict on just the lobster roll? I'd go to Danner's 3 out of 4 times if they were sitting side-by-side. The homemade potato salad was fantastic. They have dropped their French fries, which is no big deal in my book. The chowder was a bit too thick and potatoey, and I'm not a bacon-on-chowdah fan, but the Snapper was authentic on a toasted split top bun. Their blueberry cheesecake is terrific! Bottom line: The food was fresh, the portions were solid, and the family (including a youngster) was friendly and welcoming. I seriously love to support a family-operated business out of Spanish Fort versus a chain. I highly recommend these folks!
