PLEASE READ: If you care about your dogs health, DO NOT BOARD THEM HERE. I boarded my dog for two nights, prior to this last visit I had pleasant interactions with staff and no issues when picking my dog up. However, this time my dogs legs were covered in urine and he was filthy. Even just walking into the location it smelled incredibly disgusting. The next day my dog started coughing more and more and, it turns out, was diagnosed with Kennel Cough even though he is fully up to date on all vaccines. This Kennel Cough ended up turning into Pneumonia and now Reactive Airway Disease even with antibiotics, steroids, etc. Prior to boarding him here we had a vet visit that enforced a clean bill of health and there was no way he caught it from another dog before hand due to his walking time patterns and the fact that he's the only dog at home. Additionally, while he was boarded here he was never on the cameras. We called many times and checked many times to make sure he was okay but never saw him nor many of the other dogs that were "playing". PLEASE do not board your dog here, the cost is far too great and the care they provided for my dog was far from adequate. read more

I've always used camp Bow Wow - but there is a new policy that requires %50 deposit on non holiday stays, and if you cancel within 3 days of the stay - the deposit is forfeit (for my latest stay that would have been about $200). After we left our young and energetic Vizsla at bow wow several times for 1/2 day play sessions with positive feedback from the staff, we were confident she was in good hands and ventured to Santa Fe for a full day trip. Following previous visits it was noted by staff that the dog was quite energetic (she was at the time a 5 month old, 25 lb puppy), but they assured us that their handlers would work with her on manners and leash awareness. Later that afternoon we received a phone call from the manager asking that we pick our dog up immediately due to her poor behavior. The manager went so far as to call our puppy "obnoxious" and let us know she was no longer welcome at bow wow. They reported no aggressive behavior, instead saying that the dog excitedly jumped on staffers while greeting them. We were aware that the lead trainer had recently left bow wow, leaving entry level staff to manage a single,large pack of dogs in day care. We have not returned to bow wow however our dog has successfully participated in many open play sessions at Aztec Animal Clinic and The Center at Animal Humane without any such issues. Unlike those facilities, both of which take pride in their staffs and competency, It's clear to us that the bow wow staff was not trained or equipped to deal with a young, energetic dog so they responded unprofessionally to cover for their staff. You have many better options in ABQ to entrust with the care of your dogs. I cannot recommend camp bow wow. read more

I was very pleased with camp bow wow! Very clean, professional, and you can tell the employees really enjoy being with dogs. We did a trial of doggy day camp - which they don't charge you for, and it went really well. They ask you to stay for about ten minutes just to make sure there are no problems which I think is a great idea. They have web cams so I was able to watch them play and see that they were having fun! They also noticed that one of my dogs would need a vaccination in a few months and were able to give it to her that day for only 17$! They are a little expensive, but a lot of things that most places charge you extra for are included such as snacks and play time. I think it's well worth the money to know that your dogs are in a clean, safe, fun environment! read more

Disclaimer: This review only pertains to the training side of Camp Bow Wow because we've never used the doggy day care services. I. LOVE. SARAH. She is a miracle worker! Some background: I have a 1 year old blue heeler named Westley. I love him to pieces, but he is a HANDFUL. I contacted several trainers about 4 or 5 months ago to seek some help with his reactivity and overall behavior issues. Camp Bow Wow was the only one that called or emailed me back, so I set up an appointment for a private training session. I was super nervous, because my pup is unpredictable with new people and tends to be very loud and unmanageable when there are strangers about. Sarah was so patient, knowledgeable, and just really truly understands dogs. She approached him very slowly and gradually, letting him get used to her without feeling threatened. She listened to my entire diatribe of concerns and explanations of behavior issues with understanding and reassurance, and taught me a simple command to start with. She also believed he would be able to manage a group class, and so we signed up! Several months and two levels of group training later, it's like we have an entirely new dog! While he is still reactive, he is overall so much better behaved - our friends and family have all said so! We'll be signing up for more group and private classes to keep this improvement rolling. I absolutely LOVE Camp Bow Wow! I recently adopted my dog, Taffy, from the Westside shelter in early July and noticed that she had problems interacting with other dogs and people, didn't know how to mark her territory, and didn't know how to play with her toys! Needless to say I felt really bad and wanted to know what I could do to make her feel more comfortable. Once Taffy started going to Camp Bow Wow I noticed a complete 180 in her disposition and confidence! She now runs up to people to greet them, loves playing with other dogs, and most surprisingly, has been playing with her toys on her own! I feel like she knows how to act like a normal, confident dog now. Most importantly, I always feel that Taffy is safe and in caring, loving hands. Everyone is so kind to us and always greets Taffy with a big hello! I'm a bit of a super anxious person, and got scared that camp may be unsafe for her (i.e. get hurt by another dog, escape the facility), but bringing her here has greatly reduced my anxiety. I know she's having fun, being social, and is healthy! They go to great lengths to make sure your dog is comfortable and safe. The best part is you can watch them on the Camper Cams to check in and see how they are doing! Also the little reports they get on how their day went always make my day :) Again, Camp Bow Wow Albuquerque is a godsend to all of us full-time working and anxious pet parents! Fist time boarding my dog and will be my last, on the last day an hour before pickup got a call saying she was sick, SICK like it was nothing, my dog almost DIED..!!! I had to take her to the ER right after picking her up for severe pneumonia she's still on oxygen 3 days later and is unstable. how can it go unnoticed they should have a vet on hand getting her check out they are a boarding establishment and this is required of them however they failed my dog and now she's fighting for her life. Now I'm up my ass for veterinary bills and wondering if my dog is going to make it. She had a full vet checkup before I boarded her and was 100% healthy. HORRIBLE! Customer Service is terrible!Never informed us they were closed due to construction but received a reminder from the Camp Director that our dog was still scheduled for boarding. So we show up to a CLOSED sign and had to cancel our trip because they failed to inform us. We called and received a VM message stating they will reopen on 13 March and to leave a message and they are returning ALL calls. We never received a phone call back but got the email and thought they were open as their message stated. NOPE! Very rude! Unprofessional! This place was horrendous! So it's 12:00 when we get there okay they can't take us right away they said 15 minuets. We wait 15 minutes so we come back in and have to wait a second longer is what they said. I'm not sure how they got second it was half an hour! So the back room supervisor comes out and says "we are going to take him back and take 2 dogs of different gender and see how hw does." Okay that's fine. My dog is 45 pounds and they said they consider that a big dog. The rest is not good but let's just say my dog is not allowed to stay there. read more

My dog spent 4 nights there. At the beginning I was very happy with the services they provided. The interview seemed reassuring. The trainer was very nice. However now a few days after the stay there my dog is sick. She now has kennel cough won't eat her regular food. She sleeps all day doesn't move, and lost all her energy. I feel horrible for leaving my dog there and coming to a none energetic dog. Sick and not moving. I get that these things can happen with all the dogs around but my dog has all vaccines never any issues till now. Here is what bothers me the most they charged me for a furminator however she is still shedding like crazy. They gave her a blueberry facial which she's gotten before I know the smell last for days. However with them it last tops 3 hours. They said nails were clipped but they are clearly long and unclipped yet I was charged for all this. I know I should've stick to my regular grooming location but thought it would be a good idea since she would probably be stinky. You end up paying over $375 for services that are questionable. Sure they have cameras but they aren't clearly you never know what happens when they put them in sleeping couriers. Staff is a hit or miss some are good some are in hurry to get you out of there. I would not recommend them at all. Very unhappy with everything. read more

You have to make decisions on these Yelp reviews whether a 4.5 star review is a 5 or a 4. I push it to 5 for several reasons. I love the first visit process where you are actually interviewed, and to me this increases the sense of safety and security of your dogs when you leave them. The place is clean. Not an easy task when you have up to a hundred dogs there at a time at times. Yes, your dog may come back filthy after a full day of indoor and outdoor play, but if you choose you can have them bathe your dog after and they offer this service. Did you expect after a full day of doggie play your hound would be pristine? One time we let our dogs go three days in a row, and Jax's paws were a bit torn up. This said, this was on us for taking them there three days in a row, and they do explain up front that in fact it is our decision to take them there, and they do have you sign a waiver about issues such as this that can be really a function of having your dog play with other dogs for hours at a time, sometimes indoors and out. They do have suites available if you want to separate your dog or it your dog is old, but to me, that defeats the purpose of them being simply dog-tired at the end of the day. Parking is a bit of a bear, given that there are other businesses there, and quite commonly it can be a challenge to get a good space, but this is really about the main negative. It is in a bit of an industrial area, but I have never felt unsafe because of this. One of the best features is the ability to watch your dogs in real time on a time lapse style camera (so as not to chew up your data), and this is reassuring particularly if you are worried about your dogs as we are. The staff is friendly, they get to know your dogs, and I have been very pleased with the service. We have yet to board our dogs overnight because we are just that way, but when we do, it will be here. read more

Disclaimer: this review is about the "behavior buddies" part of Camp Bow Wow. Haven't tried their dog care services yet, but am planning to. My first experience with this place was for level one obedience training "basic manners" class with Nyssa. She was PHENOMENAL! She was so patient with the dogs in the class and so knowledgeable to answer our questions. My dog grew to love her and he loved coming here every week. Every time we drove in he got super excited! My favorite thing about this place is how clean it is. It smells fresh inside, and well maintained. Every time I was in the waiting area, a dog would walk in and the lady at the front desk knew the dog's name. It's obvious these workers make an effort to know your dog. We had amazing experience with Camp Bow Wow, and especially with Nyssa, the trainer. I recommend this place to anyone who is uncomfortable about where to take their dog. read more

Picked up our dog after spending 2 days at Camp Bow Wow at a cost of $90 which we are more than happy paying normally...however, this time when we picked up our dog she had dried sticky stuff on her belly and front legs and smelled like urine. We had to take her back in to have her cleaned up. The lady at the front desk said urine does make the fur sticky like hers was. The only thing we can determine is that she was kept in an area that was not clean. We don't know how long she was like this before we picked her up and hope she did not have to sleep in urine. While they rinsed her off, she will have to receive a full bath today. They have always been so good with my tiny Maltese. They treat all the animals as if they are their own. I've been taking my dog here for several months, for both daycare and boarding. She always comes home happy and tired - just like a pup should! The place is clean and there are webcams if you want to check up on your furball during the day. The staff is very friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs. Pick-up and drop-off is generally pretty quick, although the lobby can get busy at "peak" times (5pm or so for daycare). For boarding they also offer bath additions for a reasonable price. Camp bow wow is the best doggie day care and boarding facility I have found and I have been to several others both here in Albuquerque and in the 3 other states I have lived. The staff are truly outstanding and have a sincere love and concern for each dog. My Golden Retriever absolutely can't wait to get there each time and it provides the activity and socialization he needs while I am at work. He goes to Bow Wow 3 of the 5 days a week I work. What a difference compared to being home alone all week, he is happier and healthier which in turn makes him a better pet and companion for me. I am so thankful I found such a great doggie day care! You can leave them with the confidence they are well taken care of but on top of that you can actually watch your pet on Web cam while they are there. I had high hopes when I took my service dog for an evaluation to attend daycare at this facility when he was not working, at the beginning of evaluation I watched on the monitor as a same breed dog (shibrian husky) as mine was brought in who immediately asserted dominance over my dog, keeping in mind my dog has had extensive training in calm interaction with other as part of his service dog certification, even though the other dog was removed, I belive this brief interaction alerted him of having to assert himself, the evaluation continued to a larger enclosure, which I observed via there camera app. He continued to have playful interaction with other dogs, when I observed him drinking water and then being pulled back by the girl conducting the evaluation and was no longer seen, shortly after I received phone call stating my dog had failed based unacceptable behavior of asserting dominance over water bowel (remember the interaction with the previous dog) and he had been removed and placed into a cabin. When I picked him up I was told his behavior was cause for alarm and not acceptable, which I agree but based on his extensive service dog training he expectes to be corrected on a inappropriate behavior and not just taken away which makes the behavior acceptable. I'm not saying that my dog because he's a service dog was to be treated differently but rather evaluated with keeping in mind even though he was not currently working the training he has received should be carefully considered. I was told he could be reevaluated in the future, but if he was again placed in the same situation the end result would be the same. Unfortunately Camp Bow Wow is not a fit for my dog instead of the other way around. read more

Watching the dogs on the video screen in their lobby showed way too many dogs in cramped areas and it was obvious some dogs were uncomfortable in the environment, but the staff completely missed the signs. If you drive a Subaru and are gluten free and against vaccines then this is the place for you and your dog. I was leaving town for two days and just wanted an overnight kennel with a couple of play days to go to Carlsbad Caverns and back. This place is ridiculous. I brought my dog and his vaccine records with me to get all ready for the trip. They wanted a meet and greet. Fine. I filled out their paperwork and let him meet their staff. Then they wanted to put him in the play area to see how he reacts with other dogs. I get that. That don't want aggressive or violent dogs. Let's put him in for 10 or 15 minutes to make sure he doesn't kill a chihuahua. What killed me was that they then wanted me to leave him for 3-4 hours to see how he did. Really? I have all day to screw around with kennels? Why would anyone dedicate their entire afternoon for an overnight boarding. I found another place across town that was fast, to the point, and without a million requirements. And much cheaper. At $50 a night plus day fees this is a little much for me. I felt obligated to go get a $6 coffee with coconut at Starbucks down the street. read more

Just had our first in-home training session with Sarah for our pittie Olive. We had a wonderful hour-and-a-half session with lots of success and homework for the leash issues we've been having. Sarah was easy to work with and extremely knowledgeable. We look forward to working with her in the future and trying out the doggie daycare offered on-site. What a great place. The staff is outstanding. The initial interview process is pretty straight forward. It's a fairly standard application process in that you fill out basic information about your dog(s), set up an interview, come in for the interview and the staff will introduce your dog(s) to other dogs and see how he/she will acclimate. Once the process is done and your dog(s) pass the interview then you can begin daycare and boarding. Webcams are set up in all play areas and you can download the Camp Bow Wow app and periodically check in on things at your leisure. My dog absolutely enjoys himself every time! I will gladly refer friends and family to Camp Bow Wow. Prices are reasonable and the staff goes above and beyond. Highly recommended! read more

I was glad that the initial interview was as comprehensive as it was and that they wanted to keep my dogs for at least three hours after they passed the initial interview process. I am obsessed with watching my dogs on the puppy cam. It's great! Taking my review down two stars. The changes at Camp Bow Wow in the last year and a half have not been positive. They have made cosmetic upgrades all while making the dog spaces SMALLER and the services MORE EXPENSIVE. I was not happy to learn that Caroline was a new manager. I didn't like her at Animal Humane, and I don't like her here. She is condescending. You work with dogs, I know, but you're in human customer service too, lady. They sometimes ask for favorable reviews on social media in exchange for free services. Consider that when you see rave reviews. Sometimes when I look on the webcam, I don't see my dog. I realize there are blind spots, but for more than an hour? I have long suspected they put my dog in a kennel while she could be out in a play yard. I will take my dog here in a pinch, but recommend looking elsewhere. ----------------------------------------------------- I have been taking my pup to Camp Bow Wow for about a year now and I'm very pleased. Most staff members greet my dog by name when we arrive, and they are quick to attend to us. My dog has been a half-day camper, full-day camper and overnight camper several times - I feel comfortable leaving her there for each. They have cameras on the website where you can check in on your dog, for no cost. I use the iPhone app to access the cameras, the download cost is $1.99. Camp Bow Wow offers several grooming services which I love. My dog routinely rolls in poop (sigh. come on, girl.), so I often ask for her to have a bath before I pick her up. They will coordinate bath time with pick up time so she doesn't go back in gen pop and go for a second poop roll. ;) Much appreciated. The price is slightly higher than other options in the area, but let's be honest - you get what you pay for. I am happy to pay a little more for peace of mind. If a happy, tired dog is your goal, Camp Bow Wow is your place. read more
