Long story short: I do not feel like this facility is good with hyper larger dogs. They seem to do fine with small dogs, or large dogs who do not play much/are cuddly. Use caution trying out facility and watch cameras. Long story long: I have taken awhile to post this review, but I recently was contemplating my dogs stays. My dog, a staffy bully mix, attended many sessions of doggy daycare before I decided he was more hyper than this facility liked. They seem to not like dogs with much energy as mine would be constantly sprayed with water, chased down when he would try to get dogs to chase him as he loves running away, and would be in time out or isolated most of his daycare time for trying to play more. I also noticed on a few occasions him getting sprayed if he came up to even sniff another dog the counselor would be petting and shoved away/ shooed with feet. I had a long trip, 7 days, and on the last day of his boarding I was told he had an incident when he was with the other dogs. They stated he joined in on going after another dog that was not wanting to be messed with. I did not watch the incident videos as I was not offered them, but was told I would not get prepaid package days reimbursed. I had to email owner who stated I could , but then I had to follow up again a few weeks later when I was still waiting for check they forgot to send out. No biggie there. It was a first incident, and they had originally told me they do bad report cards and after 2/3 he would be dismissed. Not in this case, due to him "going after" another dog. My main reason for review is that my dog has attended another boarding facility with no issues to note. He is hyper and LOVES other dogs. He doesn't understand sometimes when other dogs are being aggressive to other dogs, and does think it is playing and joins in to "play". He is scared and cautious of people and will run away from them, but NEVER aggressive beyond some rough house playing. read more

I was impressed by the reception and instructions for our dog to be interviewed prior to be accepted by the Camp in Lawrenceville NJ. Unfortunately, the subsequent interview was a negative experience. I was surprised and disappointed by the staff who had been so caring and positive before the interview. Here is what occurred. We arrived and our dog was taken into the large dog play area as we watched on camera. (btw, My dog is playful, sweet, two years old and has had many positive experience at doggie parks and with playdates) She was always near the back wall of the play area. They brought in the other dogs---as far as I could tell, they brought them in much too quickly. She never left the back wall and it was obvious that she wasn't happy. Once they opened up the outdoor area, her tail went up and she began moving around. At that point (after 30-40 minutes), we decided to let her stay and left as we were told that the staff would be watching her carefully. And, that they would remove another dog that was acting aggressively with other dogs. Around 30 minutes later, we received a call that another dog had attacked her and scratched her nose; that she was bleeding but was now Ok. We went to retrieve her. She was fine even though there were scratches. NO ONE from the Camp explained what happened. NO ONE has ever contacted me to explain or apologize. I believe that when the afternoon part time staff arrived, no one from the morning group had communicated that she was NEW....and they were to watch her carefully. They dropped the ball. They lost a potential customer. Obviously, they are not committed to the welfare of their clients. I would recommend staying away from Camp Bow Wow. What a disappointing experience. . read more

UPDATE - 3 years later In Dec. it will be 3 years since my dog was discharged from Camp Bow Wow for apparently attacking another dog. Throughout that time Rocky has been to 3 different camps, all who adore him and call him a Gentle Giant. He has never once snapped at a dog despite what Camp Bow Wow has claimed. They blamed my dog when they were short on staff and their counselor to dog ratio was poor. My dog went to camp bow wow almost everyday for 2 years before they discharged him and many other large breeds. If you have a large breed there are many other camps which cater to large dogs. Please spare yourself the heartache, camp now wow only hires young amateurs. Also owners reply 3 years ago is not valid, they have never once spoke to me about my dogs behavior. I called there multiple times a day and there was never complaints, not even a warning. Owner is trying to save face! read more

We absolutely love Camp Bow Wow! The staff is so friendly, especially bright and early in the morning. Hannah is always smiling and welcoming! The counselors are so friendly and out of no where Maddie started giving us her paw, after endless attempts at trying to train her to do so. Coincidentally, we caught her on camera with a camp counselors giving "paw" and now she does it all the time. Our pup Maddie goes here every single day for camp, while we are at work. She has been coming here since she was four months old. She comes home exhausted from playing all day with her friends. Our minds are at ease with the ability to log in and watch her on the cameras, as she is running around with all of her puppy energy. Without a doubt, I recommend this place to everyone. read more

I tried camp bow wow due to the pretty positive reviews and cheaper price then the other daycares I take my puppy to. Today was her first full day at camp bow wow and we will not be returning. Watched the cameras today and my dog wasn't playing. Just following the attendant around for HOURS. This is unlike my dog as she LOVES to play and is a 7 month old lab so she is full of energy. Due to this I decided to come for her early only to get home and find two LARGE and deep scratches at the tops of her two back legs on her belly. Both scratches looked like they had been bleeding and they are beyond swollen. I called the receptionist who said she will ask the morning attendant if he saw anything. He said my puppy was playing rough with a husky and a pitbull and the pitbull tried to mount her a few times but they got him off and then distracted him so he would lose interest. They did not separate them into different rooms, they did not check my puppy which you would think they should since she completely shut down after this instance nor did they call me AT ALL to alert me. If I had known of any of this I would have come for my dog immediately. All I received after calling them was "sorry we didn't catch that." Are you kidding me?! This is a chain that is supposed to be experts at doggie day care and they didn't follow common sense procedure?! I will not be returning to ANY camp bow wows and I will be showing these pictures to anyone and sharing my story. I left a message for the manager as well. No return call or concern nor did I receive any refund for the day. DO NOT TRUST CAMP BOW WOW!!! 11/13/19 UPDATE: Owner called me after seeing my Facebook post get shared around and apologized. Na, in all seriousness for around $30 your dog can spend the day here having fun with other dogs and getting exercise. Definitely beats crating your dog or having to kiss someones ass to dog-sit. When I asked the front desk girl she said there were no notes and management would contact me. I called the next day and my phone call was later returned by a manager. I have brought my dogs here for boarding since they opened and have watched it slide ever since. My recent experience has me feeling the need to warn the public to not use this facility or any by this franchisee. My dog was attacked due to too many dogs being held in one area with insufficient staff. My dog was returned to me with 20 stitches and a drain in her leg. besides the injury, I found that over the course of a seven-day stay, my three dogs were not fed, 2 meals. I know this because they now require us to individually bag each meal. I was returned too many. The owner told me she would be calling me to discuss the whole situation. Instead, she sent me a legal letter threatening me not to reveal the details. I'll take that risk to save other's pets from this business. In her letter, she tries to say that the food was put back because they didn't eat it. However, their food requires soaking in water. This would be quite a sloppy mess. Lies, poor care, understaffed and severely overwhelmed staffed are rampant. I feel terrible that I left my dogs here. Stay far away. read more

My dog started going there. He was hurt once playing with other dogs and i took him to the vet. I told them he cant be in with the big dogs. He returned camp bow wow after 3 weeks of rest. As of Wed 6/24/2020 he came home again with his leg bothering him. I took him to vet and no signs of anything broken. My MAIN concern is that my dog wont come near me or anyone. He's very scared, wont make eye contact with me. My dog is the type of dog to follow me everywhere EVEN to the bathroom. NOW he turns his head away from me, wont come and got very defensive when i went to pet him. in 9 years of being boarded nationwide, our dog has never come home crying, much less looking worse than when she went in. no one interacted with the dogs and when we queried about her grooming, the groomer claimed he had brushed her, but had instead used the wrong tool, damaging her coat and leaving hacked, loose fur and a professional working dog distraught. there was no indication of washing whatsoever. the staff person was ignorant as to our dogs visit and provided no information regarding the 4 days she was boarded. our dog moped for 24 hours and had to be taken to a proper, professional groomer to recover her coat and actually be bathed. this at least perked up the depressed dog the Bow Wow had sent home. read more

The grooming was very bad. Our dog did not get brushed out. When we picked our dog up there were large clumps of fur that we were pulling out of our dog's coat by hand. We had to take our dog to a groomer the next day for a major brush out. read more

This place is spotless, and the staff is very nice. But, I'm afraid that if you don't have a very calm, extremely socialized dog, you will not make it through the "interview" process. The camper interview is free and supposed to last 3 hours. You are able to view the entire process live on a webcam/app. Our dog was taken into a holding area alone for 1 hour from 9-10:00 am. After an hour alone, the staff member returned with one dog. Our dog was clearly scared. Soon after, a second dog was brought in. All of this interaction time took a total of about 20 minutes. We received a call immediately after they exited at 10:20. The staff member said our dog was too nervous, and would not let the other dogs "sniff her hind quarters" so she wouldn't be a good fit. (At our former boarding facility, the staff made it clear that it can take some dogs a full day to adjust on their first visit, and they will accommodate accordingly) I don't think it was a coincidence that we were asked to pick her up immediately only to find they had another camper "interview" starting at 10:30. They just didn't take any time to let her adjust, and needed her to either move on into the play area with the others, or go home. It's a great facility, but it has a very typical big franchise/corporate style of caring for dogs. read more

I can't say enough great things about Camp Bow Wow Northeast. My little HarvMan is a bit high-maintenance with a touch of separation anxiety so when you mix the two together, it makes going out of town a challenge. Because Camp Bow Wow, by nature of its design, allows him loads of social interaction with other dogs and humans while bunking in a large enough cabin that he doesn't need to feel like he's being kenneled. In the past I would take him over to Cherry Hill or down to Delaware, but the hike was getting to be a bit much. While Cherry Hill and Delaware were perfectly fine locations, the opening of the Northeast Philly location became our go-to because of how much closer it is to home without having to pay bridge tolls. The staff at this location is absolutely phenomenal, Rachael is a real gem. She posts photos of my little man Harvey on their Facebook page while I'm out of town so I can see just what a great time he's having even when I can't spot him on the camper cams. On Harvey's most recent visit, I mentioned to Rachael that I was really sad to have to leave Harvey at camp on his birthday (a little much, I know, but I'm that kind of dog-mom); she immediately perked up wishing him a happy birthday and telling me that he would get extra pets and treats to celebrate. When I picked Harvey up the next day, Rachael handed me the sweetest laminated card from the staff of CBW with a photo of Harvey in full birthday getup. One little gesture sealed my love for this location and I am so happy to have them close enough to home that I can treat my fur-man to a little getaway now and again without feeling inconvenienced by the hike to get him to/from. I have not one bad thing to say about our experience. All of the staff was incredibly nice and informative. The camper cams are awesome, i got to see my dogs enjoy their first day of camp! The facility is super clean, has no urine smell which was a big concern for us. Our two dogs recently stayed for their first overnight trip and had an amazing time! We able to watch them play and have fun all day, and knew they were safe and sharing a "cabin" at night. We picked up two very happy dogs the next day. I've been taking my puppy here for MONTHS- never any complaints- always told he does great and I know he does bc I watch on the camera and he's also constantly socializing. Today I dropped off my 6 month old puppy before heading to work, 10 minutes later I got a call from the OWNER (the same owner that was asking me advice on animal behavior the last time I dropped off so she could give advice to her employees that are going to school to be a vet tech like myself) saying Joe is not neutered. Their protocol is for them to be neutered by 7 months- which JOE IS NOT. I let her know he's under the required age she then told me he plays rough and it gives her anxiety to keep him in play group. HE WAS THERE 3 DAYS THE PRIOR WEEK. I let her know he doesn't play rough he's a puppy which she then told me she's owned this day care for 10 years and has experience- HEY GIRL IVE BEEN A VET TECH FOR 10 YEARS, I've worked with rescues and assessed behavior for even longer. I could own a nail salon, a gym, a hospital for 10 years doesn't mean I'd know my shit it would just mean I have money so calm yourself about your education. She then told me that she was worried that other dogs would go after him because he's not neutered and it gives her anxiety so she was going to put MY PUPPY IN A CAGE ALONE SO NO ONE WOULD ATTACK HIM. Hey Mrs I know dog behavior let's take out the dogs that might attack a 6 month old puppy not the puppy. This place is terrible the owner is obviously not very educated. I have read some of the reviews of Camp Bow Wow Philadelphia NE. I must disagree with the one posted by GEMMA. I am the PAWPARENT of a large dog (Bernese Mountain dog) and have never had any issues with the camp or the staff because of his size!!! I have had Max at other camps and I can tell you, he is treated very well here. As a matter of fact I was bringing him with me twice a week and dropping him off on my way to work - we come all the way from Lansdale. Yes there have been occasional issues during drop off when there are more dogs than staff to check them in but I have overlooked that because I feel Max gets very good care when he is there. Apprehensive from the get-go, my mother reassured that our interview would go smoothly, and that I'd be pleased with this place. We heard from word of mouth that a "boarding," yet fun facility for dogs had opened near by. With excitement she quickly called to schedule a greeting and tour for our 2 English Bulldogs, in hopes that we'd like it due to our fast need to find boarding for our pets for my up coming wedding. My bully is 3, my mothers is 11 and they are both 70lbs. For those of you that are familiar with this breed you'd know that they are short to the ground and stubby. Now at camp bow wow there are 2 different types of dogs..small and large, well what about medium? Our heavy dogs are too fat to hang with the small crowd, and too short to hang with the tall crowd. Needless to say they were to play in the large dog bin. I warned the lady before leaving them on their 3 hour interview that our Bulldogs are somewhat intimated by larger dogs, she insisted they'd be FINE with supervision. After 2 hours of watching them on the camp cam on our phones, we were starting to relax and saw things seemed to be fine, (granted the staff were squirt bottle happy, we'd let that slide & shut our mouths.) Phone call number 2 came with the news that our boys had taken a turn for the worst! Excuse me? "They charged another dog!" Oh my! Probably because they were scared shitless of the Giants they were abruptly introduced to, lady! We were summoned to come pick our pups up and told they didn't pass the camp interview. This review is to let all the other medium sized dog owners know that theirs may also not be welcomed, and to not waste their time. We understand that this is a place for fun and no "bully's" allowed, but our 11 year old man shouldn't be forced to play with large dogs that could easily injure him. EB's have a short life span, 11 is pushing his max. Why couldn't an exception been made? We personally aren't seeking any special treatment, but a tip, older dogs deserve special treatment! read more

The staff is exceptional. I frequently watch my dog on the camper cams when I'm at work and I always see staff members in the play areas, attentive to the dogs' behavior, and correcting anything inappropriate. Additionally, they are very kind in their greetings each time I come to camp. Honestly, I feel like they care about my dog - and that is important to me. I would have given this business a 5 star prior to reopening during this pandemic. I used the franchise when I lived in another state and think they are great. Great day care, boarding and grooming. I boarded my dog when they reopened and checked the web cam because a storm was due and my dog is not good with storms. My surprise, the attendants in back were not wearing masks! They are exposing their fellow employees and all their customer's dogs. When I called they told me the owner said it was okay. There is a state mandate, a misdemeanor if not followed, that businesses dealing with the public are REQUIRED to wear masks. The manager called me back and told me they weren't breaking the law and the owner is okay with it. After repeating it is not up to the owner to not follow a state mandate. I got nowhere. I am very sad as I have used them since moving to the area but cannot do so anymore. read more

My dog Achilles loves coming here, he barges through the door super excited so they must take good care of him. When I pick him up he is super tired from a day of fun. I like the cameras that enable you to check on them throughout the day. I rated 4 instead of 5 due to price, I wish it cost less especially for half a day, half day is only a few dollars less than a full day. I would bring him more than I do if it was more affordable. I really can't say enough great things about Camp Bow Wow. We have been using them for all our dog daycare, boarding and grooming since they opened up the NE Philly location. The staff is absolutely incredible and truly care about each and every dog that walks through, or in our case bolts through, the front door. When our boxer Gia passed away last year, the entire staff sent us a sympathy card with all individual messages of how Gia was special to them. Out of the countless condolences that were sent to us at that time, Camp Bow Wow's touched us so much more than every other. Now our new boxer pup, Sadie is a part of the Camp Bow Wow family and we are so grateful to have Camp Bow Wow for her to go to and enjoy. I went to camp bow for the first time on my dog's interview day. I got a tour of the ENTIRE facility. It was the cleanest place I have ever visited. Animal linens are washed daily. The play areas are spotless and dogs have easy access to outside yArd, then come back in if they want. An assistant is always present. Staff were very proud of their business and it shows. I actually changed my kennel to camp bow wow after one visit because the staff treated my dog like one of their own. She played for about four hours with other dogs and was exhausted when I picked her up. I eagerly await our next play date before I board her. The boarding crates are big enough for a bed, a bowl of water, and then some extra space to walk around. I liked the fact that they play soft music to sleep by. I also enjoyed watching my dog on my phone at intervals when I missed her. After I saw she was running around with the others, I was confident she enjoyed her day. Definitely a keeper. I have already raved about it at my hospital where I work and several people are interested. Hope this helps! read more

I took my 8month old pit bull terrier to interact with other dogs and for her to play. We got to the interview I told them she is very excited she is still a puppy, they assured me she will be fine. I absolutely love this place and so does Bob, my pit bull mix. I take Bob to camp about twice a month. It's great to have a place that I can take him and not have to worry about a thing.
