I have been boarding my 2 dogs here for a year now whenever I have to leave town. I hate leaving my dogs . I feel very good about Camp Bow Wow. The staff is kind and loving to my pets. I love the fact that I can go online and view them playing while I am away. It comforts me. How cool is that? They offer classes too! Day care ... Per staff - no plan exists for power failure, they will call in the a.m to try to rent a generator. No staff is present overnight, monitored remotely. There are no padded areas for the dogs to sit and rest while out in the 'play' area. Dogs are put up into rooms that have stiff 'cots' for a portion of the day. This program does not fit my dogs' needs, they are accustomed to a higher level of care. read more

We have boarded our pups a few times, but never realized that there is no one in the building after hours. The last time the dogs are given a bathroom break is after dinner. We watched on camera, our golden trying to get someone's attention to let her out until she could no longer wait. We later found out after calling the site and leaving messages, that no one is there at night. Alarms are set for the night which does nothing to meet any needs of the dogs. Staff is very caring when they are there but after they go home things are on autopilot. $$$ for 12/24 care. How can owners get away with this? Probably like us, people don't realize this. read more

I contacted Camp Bow Wow on January 10th through their website inquiring for a new puppy. Tony called out on the 14th with details on their program offerings for young pups. I expressed interest in signing up, but requested the details in email because it wasn't a great time and we had a repairman over... no follow up email or phone call. I called back on February 2nd and spoke with a younger lady explaining that I never got any information in email and that I wanted to sign up for classes. She said she could not sign me up over the phone, but I again gave my email info and she said she would send over the details. Again no email and no follow up phone call. We picked up our new puppy on February 6th and have now scheduled puppy classes with K9 Turbo Training in Ferndale instead. read more

OMG: I brought my dogs here for a bath, nail trim and FURminator. Absolutely the worst job ever and $130 for two dogs! My one dogs nails were mutilated. The other one they couldn't do... supposedly said dog was too difficult) but I was able to do the nails as soon as I got home. I don't know what dogs they brushed but it wasn't my dogs. And dogs were wet when I picked them up. Horrible horrible. These girls do not know what they are doing. Go to a real dog bath business. Plus this place reaks of dog urine. read more

I have an Irish Setter puppy who still needs a lot of play and attention. When I am overwhelmed with work, I take her to Camp Bow Wow. The dog counselors there are wonderful, the price is right, and the services are great. Two ways that I know how great they are. First, my dog gets so excited to go to Camp Bow Wow and cannot get inside fast enough. Second, they have dog cams, so you can watch your pup while they are at play. It's a great place that is also affordable, so I don't have to keep my puppy in her pen all day when I am working on big projects. Special Kudos to Andy who obviously adores dogs, and I can tell from the dog cam that the dogs adore her. I really appreciate her heart and dedication! The rest of the team is great, too! read more

I was never told that they had a issue with my dogs, camp bow wow gave BOTH of my dogs excellent report cards. I think it's time we contact the BBB in this location or maybe the news. Please do not take your pet here! I had heard multiple people say that their dogs got sick here - but I went against the recommendations and fell victim to the convenience of how close it is to our house. My first dog got sick and cost nearly $900 at the vet. Second dog got sick, but we caught it earlier and only had to pay $285. We got an email from Bow Wow saying that kennel cough was going around and that it could turn in to pneumonia. Both my dogs had very serious lung infections. I was deivistated and thought that we were going to have to put my older dog down. So heartbreaking. I called Bow Wow and they said they would have the owner call me. They never called me back. I've called multiple times and they still have not returned my call. I wanted to walk through their sanitation practices, and nothing. They refunded some of my daycare care package, but not good enough. I still have the email that they sent admitting that a lot of dogs were getting sick. Ok... I tried Camp Bow wow again because I was desperate. What a mistake! I decided to check on my dog with the camera system and was appalled that the workers consistently turn their back to the dogs and bury their heads in their phones or hide from the security cameras. I was told the works are supposed to interact with the dogs. This NEVER happened. I checked numerous times because I was concerned. Multiple times I couldn't find him out to play. How long did they REALLY let the dogs out of their crates? Dogs are supposed to be out 2 hours at a time and one of the times my dog's group was only out for 20 minutes. If this is the treatment that we can see on the cameras...what are we not seeing? And then when you get your bill, get ready for a shock. They charge at minimum $49 a day regardless of length of stay and then tack on $20 for check out after 11AM. I'm happy to pay for my dog if there is good treatment, but I'm concerned about the quality of care. Don't be lulled into false sense of security because they have cameras. Seriously check the cameras when your dogs are there! It's not a guarantee of quality care. read more

I absolutely love this business!! Tony (the owner) is the best. I adopted my puppy late December 2008. I first took Stasia to Camp Bow Wow in January 2009. I have been a regular ever since. I LOVE how they treat her! They knew her by name right away. They have a nickname for her green toy that she needs for overnite boarding. And, they always tell me silly stories about her visits there. What I love is the open play areas. They always have people (usually young adults) wandering in the play areas to keep the peace, if needed. And, the web cam is great. If I get the chance, I can watch my puppy play real time! And, even take photos :) They also do a lot of cute holiday events/promotions. For Valentine's Day, they brought in a photographer. For a $10 donation to a local animal rescue, I received two 4x6 photos of my Stasia with a Valentine's theme. It was awesome! They also sometimes offer Saturday dayplay for a great discount. This Camp Bow Wow is a great place for a little puppy day play or extended overnite stays! read more

My dog absolutely loves it here! I used to feel bad about having to board him while on vacation, but I know he loves this place. And he is so tired when I pick him up, that he is asleep for the car ride home. Everyone there is so nice and seems genuinely happy to see my dog when I drop him off. I adopted my pup in January 2011 and have been taking her here ever since! The staff is great and helpful and I like being able to "spy" on her throughout the day with their webcams. I do both overnight boarding and day care and they even wash her blanket if she's there for a few days so we can bring it home nice and clean! They give new customers a free day of daycare to assess dogs and their comfort level with the other dogs and give a "camp report card" of how your dog interacted with the staff and dogs. They also send a cute little greeting card in the mail with your dog's picture as a thank you! I highly recommend this place! read more

I cannot say enough good things about this location specifically or all of the wonderfully amazing supportive people who work here. They go above and beyond with every animal that passes through and truly make you feel like family. Not a day goes by that I don't hear a funny story about my dog, nor does anything seem to get by them. If my baby is sick they really keep an eye on her, call me if needed and just outright make us feel loved and we are so grateful to have them. Kahlua is a member, usually goes Monday - Friday... Let me start out by saying that I have used Camp Bow Wow in Commerce Township several times with nothing but great results. With that said, I was warned by two different people who did not know each other, not to take my dog to this location. I did not listen, due to my experiences at the Commerce location. My father took my dog to the location near 9 and Harper. When I called a few days prior the staff said that my dog needed to go through a temperament evaluation to make sure he gets along with other dogs. The staff said this could take place the same day he was dropped off due to previous stays with the other locations. When my father dropped of my 11 year old Mastiff Boxer Mix he was given the standard paperwork and then left. My dog stayed one night as I moved into my new home and my father picked him up for the next day. The following day, (1 day after boarding) my dog became sick, coughing and throwing up white foam. The following day I took him to my vet where he was diagnosed with Kennel Cough. My dog was up to date on his bordetella shots and other shots prior to being at camp. I called camp bow wow to inform them that they may have a case of Kennel Cough and a staff member said that they were aware of it and it had been noted prior to my visit. I asked why I was not informed of this when my dog was dropped off and she stated that they sent out e mails to clients. I told her I was a new client and she could not explain why I was not informed that they had a known case at the time I boarded my dog. Subsequently I ended up paying $200.00 for my dogs vet bill, due to first round of meds not working. I had to deal with my dog being sick for almost two weeks. Throwing up and feeling miserable, I attended to him the best I could. I was eventually put in contact with the owner Tony. Tony tried to tell me that camp is like daycare for kids, and that campers do get sick, its a risk the owners take. To some extent I do agree, but not when you have a known case and do not inform new customers. I feel this was unethical and morally wrong. Tony offered a service credit which I declined. I explained to him that they broke the trust the first time by not telling me about the Kennel Cough they knew about at the time of boarding. I requested that Tony reimburse me for the cost of my vet bills, (not the return of money from the boarding). Tony refused and said that a simple upper respiratory cough does not meet his level of severity to pay my vet bills. I told Tony its not about the money but principle. He knew his location had an infections cough and your employees failed to inform new clients. I was not able to make the choice to take my dog somewhere else with out knowing it was unsafe. I told Tony that I would never place my dog at that location again due to lack of trust. People write reviews when they are mad and don't get their way. This is not what is going on in this case. I am writing this review, honest in its entirety. I should have listed to the two warnings from two people whom I did not know. I work with the public and in conversation they told me not to go to this location. I hope that I can prevent anyone even if only one person, from using this location and hopefully prevent anyone from dealing with what I had to. My dog is my baby, I rescued him when he was 9 weeks, he is now 11 years. I feel bad that he had to endure everything that he did just because of bad customer service. We adopted Manny in July 2013, been taking him to camp since September of that same year. He gets so excited as soon as we pull into the lot! I always say " Manny wanna go play"? Goes crazy happy! The staff, Tony, Michele, Kayla, just to name a few, are the best ever! I trust them like they are Manny's family as well!! I wouldn't go anywhere else. The folks in the yards as well! I can't say anything but GREAT about all of them. He boards there also. No worries while were away. I was excited to pick him up after a week long up north stay and he could of cared less... I have tried 3 doggy day cares for my active 1 year old. This is the ONLY place I have have good things to say! Canine to Five tied his snout shut and wouldn't let him play. American Pets Inn the owner is a Hitler-esque LUNATIC. But Camp Bow Wow - every girl at the front has known Jacks name since the second day he has gone there. Every time I call with a concern they correct it. ALL the girls are so nice. I have had one issue with a red haired guy ignoring the dogs and pushing one down that jumped to be pet - I haven't seen him near a dog since I complained! They listen to you here, and the dogs are exhausted and play so hard - which is the point of daycare (you won't get this at Canine to Five). Some places are cheaper and some are more expensive - Bow Wow falls in the middle. But it's fair and reasonable, and my dog is tired the entire next day as well. Please avoid American Pets Inn and Canine to Five. This is a great location in SCS. And I read some reviews - I'm sorry if your dog is "smelly" after daycare, or got some pee on him - but these are dogs. They smell and they get into things, but they're safe at Bow Wow and play hard. Give the dog a bath that night and move on! We love camp. read more

I brought my feisty terrier to Camp Bow Wow at age 9 months for one day a week because it was close to work. I also enrolled him at Canine College in Farm Hills for half a day, one day a week, just to socialize him and burn some energy. He was "expelled" from there after they took my money for a year, put him in time-out, and then called to "mom-shame" me. In contrast, Camp Bow Wow was a comfortable and nonjudgmental hang-out for him; they "got" his temperament and if he needed a "break" he got it. Over time, Rachael suggested trick classes to give him some one on one stimulation and that was great; I loved the pictures she sent. The staff genuinely seemed to like him and he LOVED going there; tugged me all the way in the door. But recently, Emily, the owner, called to tell me she noticed my dog needed more "breaks" than usual, and maybe he would benefit from a smaller setting. She saw that he got aggressive with more than 8 dogs. She asked if he was experiencing "stress at home" and I said no...but because I noticed they have more dogs than usual from our first visit, I could see that my dog was overstimulated and irritated...no surprise that he'd growl and "ask" for a break. It was clear from her message that it was his "last" day, and when I picked him up, they didn't even charge me. I was confused at first, since he got "dismissed" that day and I had no notice that he was "on probation." He had been going there 3 and a half years! I felt a bit betrayed, but came to realize that my dog does not really want to play with other dogs (unlike my first same-breed dog). It was my own neurotic thought that he needed to play with them once a week...in his head he was thinking "Let me stay home and chill; I don't want to be with 20 other dogs!" I was concerned about how many dogs I saw on video over time, but I always was impressed with the friendly staff. I really believe they had my dog's best interest at heart; Emily felt bad that he was not out there playing and having fun. They never made me feel ashamed that he was an "alpha," and I understand that it is a business and they have to do what is best for all dogs. I will always be grateful that the staff seemed to like him and were kind to me. I feel sad because I was so attached to the staff. This experience helped me to understand once and for all that my dog doesn't benefit from day care with this many canine friends.Each dog is different; it's like putting your 3 year old in day care and they have meltdowns because they don't like it. They need something different! I am getting over the "betrayed" feeling and appreciate CBW for their kindness; it was WAY better than Canine College "expulsion." read more

This review is about the training classes not the day care facility, never have used the day care. We took 2 dogs to their "basic class" - first of all $210 per dog for a 4 week class at only 45 minutes per class was a bit high in my opinion but since they keep the class size small I figured that was good. Well we were the only 2 dogs in class (which for us wasn't a plus since I wanted our dogs to get some more socialization skills) and the trainer was completely inexperienced! First class, our youngest dog was having some trouble with an exercise and she could not give any help or suggestions! After that I purposely did the exercise wrong with the older dog and she just sat there with no comments at all. Completely scripted from a clicker training book. Save your money and either train yourself from utube videos or go to a place that is dedicated to training not "multi purpose" read more

Camp bow wow is one of the best doggie day care places in the area. They recognize my dogs even though we only come sporadically. My dogs are tired and worn out after their day there! Ive had 3 instances in the last year that have probably been flukes- but my bigger older dog probably wont be going back. My little one may to use up the days in our package. The instances: About a year or maybe a year and a half, i had my big fuzzy dog given a bath while he was there. It was the dead of winter. I wasnt told he could still be wet or anything, he felt dry. So when we got home i let him out. He Loves the snow and cold. Well bout half an hour later, i let him in and his undercarriage was covered in ice. He was shivering. This is a chow mix! They dont shiver! I had to cover him in blankets and he was back to normal in about an hour. We narrowly missed a visit to the er vet. It scared the crap out of me. Next time we went in i let them know. I was told they'd talk to the groomer. Maybe i was too calm because they were pretty nonplussed about the whole thing. My small dog i took in and they helped fit her for an easy walk harness. Well the fit they sold me wore away the skin in her front arm pits and caused bad scabbing. I seen it and felt horrible. She hadnt given me a clue. I returned it- with blood stains on it. I was told 'well some dogs are just built differently.' While that IS 100% true, shouldnt they have noticed the buckles were in a weird place when they fit her? Also i was only offered a credit to my account, not a refund. Then the last one. I took them in and my big dog was on a high dose of prednisone. I told them that and they assured me that they would watch and put him in the senior lounge if needed. Great. Well i got there to pick up and was dealing with my little dog. They had the door open when he was coming down the hall. I noticed there was a puddle. He had a person in front of him and behind him. They let him walk right through the puddle and he wiped out. His legs went out from under him. I said 'yeah thats from the prednisone dosage i told you about.' The two that had been walking with him looked at me like they had no idea. This one really ticked me off. Hes a senior dog and could hsve hurt himself. Why WAS there even a puddle in the hallway? Also i was never given a tour. On your first day youre supposed to get one but i was told it wasnt possible. And i got the app for the web cams. They never worked on my android. Not once. I do feel like camp bow wow cares about their dogs. Ive been really calm and nice when it happened because they're all really great people. But i feel like my concerns were swept under the rug. Or ignored or not communicated. My big dog loves doggy day care but i just feel like its not an option for him after this. That happened while they were right next to him, after i had mentioned a health issue that morning. It makes me sad. For him and that that happened there because i know they would expect a higher level of care from their employees. read more

The young girls that work there said that my dog was overly comfortable. Very disappointing for spending 450.00 for the month. BAD BUSINESS ALERT - Got a call from the owner Tony on Sunday asking me to call him back . I called him back right away and he did not answer and never called me back. I show up today (Thursday) and the girl at the front counter tells me that she got an email from the owner and my dog has been "dismissed" from camp. Funny that he has been going there every week for 15 months and always gets good report cards. The last two weeks that he has come home he has had cuts and scratches all over his head. I was told that he was involved in a scuffle - which seems crazy since he plays with all my friends and family dogs and my 4 year old niece lays all over him all the time and we have never had an issue. Sad that they could not give me a reason or even a call back in 4 days and had to wait until i showed up this morning to tell me this which made me extremely late for work. My friends and family have already confirmed with me that they will never use bow wow again and will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

Camp BW was recommended by a friend of mine for my summers that I spend in the SCS area and boy am I pleased! My 2 beagle/bassets absolutely LOVE going here. First - the whole "camp" theme is evident everywhere and I was impressed when I walked in. Registration was easy and I was immediately offered a tour which was great. I also LOVE that I can check on my pups during the day with the web cams. The staff is super energetic and friendly and when watching the camera I can see them constantly in the play yards, so I know my boys are being spoiled. It was funny the 1st time I dropped them off, they looked soooooo sad. The 2nd time, they were flying through the door like "See ya Ma!"... that's the sign of a great day camp - my boys love going and they come home tired, meaning they played a lot - they aren't sitting in some crate all day. Oh - and another note about the staff, how awesome it is that in just a few visits they were greeting my boys by name. After my 1st visit, I got the cutest picture of my boys, a card in the mail, and the FB page is very active with great articles and pictures. Can't say enough awesome things! read more

We had never used a doggy daycare before with any of our dogs. However, when we got Evee we thought she would benefit from some playtime with friends on days we worked a little longer. We looked around and decided on Camp Bow Wow and couldn't be happier. Evee loves it and so do we. The staff is friendly, knows her by name even though we do not come in on a regular basis and I love that I can watch her playing on the app if I want. Evee comes home tired from a hard day of play. Overall they are friendly and take good care of the dogs. HOWEVER, when it comes to holidays, the employees are there for 7 hours: 7-11 and 4-7 and they think 2 hours of play time is OK. Well, as a customer it is not. They get 1 hour during each shift. Besides I think crating them for 11/2 hours before and after meals is ridiculous. We don't get what we pay for on holidays. Also, when I picked up my dog he smelt like urine! There is no room for my dog to play and he came home with scratches that not one employee could give me an explanation for!!
