I brought my dog Coco in today to the Southfield location to be groomed. I know she had some matting because she just had puppies 6 weeks ago and I didn't want to bring her during the pregnancy. Plus I wanted to wait a bit after the babies were born but she looks terrible after today's service. They had to shave her totally so I don't understand why I was charged $120 as a total. She's only 6-7 lbs and there is no hair left on her face or body at all. She doesn't look like a Yorkie anymore she looks like a weasel. I just wasn't very happy with the service today. I get paying more for a detangling fee but if they just shaved it all off and her ears are uneven, then I just don't understand why the fee was that high. I bring my 4 dogs there to get groomed all the time and I'm usually satisfied but I'm very unhappy with what was done today. read more

We took our Yorkie to get groomed and they did a good job. His cut may not have been as short as we wanted, but his nails grow out of control and they are black, so I am too nervous to do them myself! The result on his nails was perfection! We will be bringing him back. They only allow one person in at a time, and you ring the bell if you have a dog to drop or pick up. Masks are required. read more

My baby, Dinah, was dropped off there a few days ago for her normal haircut and nail trim. They ended up cutting her nails way too low and she bled out so much they had to rewash her several times, which they weren't going to even inform me about. I had to ask what was taking so long and why she was being rewashed before they told me that they had cut her nails too low and made her bleed out. In addition to damaging my baby's nails they didn't finish the haircut. My baby ended up coming home distraught, howling non-stop, and with a butchered half done haircut that I was still asked to pay for full price. I won't be bringing my baby back to this place ever again. read more

I have taken my dog chewed his grooming service multiple times throughout the past year and have had great results. I have a big dog and he is very scared of loud noises such as when he goes to the groomers and usually the grooming salon is able to handle him very well. But something changed when they opened recently. Everybody had a horrible attitude except for one person. When I gave my dog to the salon, I didn't get a call back about when he was ready I just had to show up at a random time and hope that he was ready. I also realized that his grooming was not completed because they were tons of hair, loose hair everywhere. I had to spend an extra 2 to 3 hours grooming and brushing my dog to get rid of any loose hair that was left over from this appointment. I spent a good amount of money with the hopes that my dog will be properly groomed but I did not get my money's worth. Also the lady that was handling my dog must not have been used to big dogs because she said something very rude as I was checking out. Will likely never be returning to this salon again in the near future. read more

We had been having good experiences with this groomer until our last visit. I asked for my Havanese's hair to have his hair cut to half length. When I left him his hair was about 8 inches long, and when I picked him up he was SHAVED to about 1/2 inch on his body. Two of my neighbors just had the same experience with their long hair dogs. The groomer blamed it on mats. I specifically told them "do not shave my dog." And they did it anyway. I am super disappointed. read more

I walked into the shop to pick up my dog from grooming and the groomer was grabbing my dogs ear and pulling so hard, they lifted him from the table. This was the worst experience and it was abusive behavor by the groomer. I DO NOT recommend taking your dog to this place. I was one of the first clients when they opened and I would never go back. My dogs were terrified to even go into the place, and then when I arriveda few minutes early to check on them, I saw the abuse. Horrible experience. read more

Their clock is still wrong and they mumbled something about the time change. I have been getting my long haired shih tzu groomed at Somerset for years, first starting at their Rochester location, then Troy and now Southfield. The owner Chris is one of the kindest people, you can tell she loves what she loves and cares for dogs. She only hires the best staff. The southfield location is the newest and Mike and Sienna make my girl look absolutely beautiful every time and shower her with lots of love. Really disappointed. I've been using this location for years and never had any complaints until today. I dropped my dog off and almost immediately got a call to come back because my dog was "nippy". I was them made to wait 20 minutes because she "wanted to try again". My dog bath was ineffective - she still has visible dirt on her, her haircut was WAY shorter than I requested, the nails were not trimmed and I was still charged the full rate. Love this place! We have been customers of Somerset Dog Groomings other locations in Rochester and Troy for years with our small Japanese Chin, and they have always been amazing. We recently got a doodle and now live closer to the Southfield location. This doggie salon is so clean and beautifully decorated with a small waiting area for humans. Horrific experience here in October 2022. I called to see if my dog was finished and when I was placed on "hold" I could hear someone screaming, "shut up! Shut the F up you stupid dog...stop barking! I'm not dealing with your A** anymore"! When the person came back to the phone I told her I could hear what was taking place there. She had nothing to say except that the person yelling was not talking to my dog. When I picked my dog up no one said anything about what I heard. Having recently moved back to Michigan, we came to Somerset Dog Grooming in its Southfield location to try out a new groomer in the area, based on the good reviews. We were paired with Becca as our groomer, and over the last few days since the appointment have come across several problems. At the time we picked him up, I already noticed a few issues - unlike our previous groomer, Becca had trouble grooming and brushing out Bruce's legs. You can tell she has not worked with a wide variety of dogs, and his cut accentuated his splayed feet (a result of his bad breeding/mutt mix, I believe). The hair around his eyes was also not cut evenly or short enough, so he will have to be groomed again sooner than we would normally schedule out. She mentioned having trouble with his not liking his legs and face touched, but never has any other groomer we've gone to not been able to work with him. I was willing to let these fly, though, seeing as this grooming was half the price of our former groomer in California (70% of the quality for 50% of the price didn't seem that bad). A few days after bringing him home, we noticed his ears had not been cleaned out, so there was a lot of wax buildup underneath. After walking and running around for a bit and letting his hair fly, we observed random uncut chunks of hair on his ears, legs, and tail. Looks like I'll have to keep searching for a groomer. read more

I am totally unhappy with the service received at the Southfield location. Emily was the groomer. I specifically put in the notes when I made the appointment and communicated it directly to Emily, that I wanted my pups hair around her nose and mouth to stay long and to trim the hair around the eyes. She proceeded to cut all of her facial hair. When I dropped her off, Emily advised that tear stains are part of the dog and show dog owners use chalk to cover up tear stains for shows. I know that my pup has tear stains, but Somerset did not even attempt to clean the tear stains, the hair around her eyes was as dark as ever. Had ONLY the hair around the eyes been trimmed as requested and the nose and mouth area hair long, it would help to mask the tear stains. I will not be back. I've paid a lot less at other groomers and received better service and my pup didn't come out of the shop looking a chopped up mess. I am VERY dissatisfied. read more

They called me to pick my dog up after grooming and tried to give her back to me when she was soaking wet still, they put her back under the dryer and I waited until she was finally dry but then she came out looking shaggy and was shedding. I asked if she has been brushed and she said yes she had but as she was telling me this she started brushing my dog In the lobby in front of me as if for the first time. I did not like the coveted conversation about the upcharge for minor matting on my Schnauzers legs to the groomer, only to turn to me and address the $10 upcharge out loud to me. Secondly, I specifically gave direction to leave my puppies face full, only for her to trim it too low, lastly and most importantly, my appointment was at 11:30 and the visit took 4 hours. She left my puppy in the kennel for 15 minutes due to her memory loss leaving my fiancee to wait the duration and ask her where he was.... maybe it was a bad day for all. Somerset just opened in Southfield Road next to Starbucks. I did not get my dog groomed, but I called on Saturday 13, 2018 and received a message that they open at 9 am. I was hoping to do a Walk in appointment but when I arrived I found a hand written note on loose leaf paper indicating that they were closed today and sorry for the inconvenience. I recently moved to MI a month ago this was the only groomer with availability near me. I have a sheepadoodle. All i asked for was a sanitary cut ear cleaning nail trim and the normal blow out and brush. Upon picking up Aziza she looked and smelled great. However when i got her home and she went to the bathroom i realized quickly she did not get a sanitary groom or her nails clipped. I called the groomer and they took her back in. I sent videos and photos of what a sanitary cut looks like. They returned her without one. My dog smelled so bad the next day- i realized they not only did nothing i asked but did not even give her a full bath. they washed her paws only. They did not brush her out. She was matted and i brushed our 3-4 huge hair balls from her under coat. I called several times to give the owner a chance to call me back and i'm pretty sure they just do not answer my calls.
