We left our 2 dogs for 4 nights over Thanksgiving. We called to check on them and were told that they were doing great. The dogs were kenneled separately, however we were told that they were let out in the run together and were playing. We called to ask if the video cameras could be turned on because we wanted to view them while we were away, the kennel never called us back. When we picked them up we were told that the older dog (13) was aggressive to staff and was never allowed out of the kennel, which conflicted with what we were told on the phone. He has a big (silver dollar sized) lesion on his face and a chipped tooth that is right under the lesion, as though he was kicked. This will require veterinary treatment. This dog has never been aggressive towards people. Both dogs had lost a considerable amount of weight. A very disappointing and scary experience.

We eventually found this place and they were SO welcoming! We dropped them off and they had so many great options for the dogs, including licky mats and a Thanksgiving meal! We got some amazing pictures and they really went above and beyond to play with the dogs and make sure that they were well loved and exercised. They even put their food into kongs to give them more stimulation. Really such a wonderful caring place and for half the price of what we would have paid at a dog hotel where they wouldn't have gotten that love and attention. I'm actually so disappointed we live so far away, otherwise they would be here for every vacation!

One of our dogs was also bleeding from a tumor the groomer nicked while shaving and seemed traumatized. The reason I'm posting this now is because one of our dogs' hair isn't growing back. We took her to the vet and another groomer and they confirmed that a groomer at this establishment cut her hair way to short for her breed. So even if it was just an accident made by a new groomer or something else, my dog is possibly permanently damaged hair wise on her back. So I feel like it's my duty to warn others just incase this happens to someone else.

I've had the displeasure of boarding my dog here a few times…read more Both times, I did not think that my dog was even walked, despite paying for packages that include like multiple walks a day. My dog basically exploded when I got him outside he had to pee so bad. Even if his last walk was 3 or 4 hours ago, he should not be peeing and pooping this much in an instant. The staff is young, inexperienced, and can barely muster a smile when you walk in. The windows in the dog rooms are not cleaned, and it really smells awful in there. It's such an unhealthy environment, and for the price you pay per day, they should have double the staff. I predict they are winding down the staff because they will actually go out of business soon, but that is just my opinion. There is no way people want to pay so much to board their dogs in a place with ratty linens, rooms that aren't cleaned, and smell like pee.

We had a special family party in the area, and we didn't feel that we could leave our elderly dog in a kennel, while we traveled to Delaware. I called and spoke with Paul beforehand, and he seemed to be a kind and accommodating person, with a true love of animals. When we arrived at the kennel, Paul and Kyle came out and welcomed us to their business, and more importantly, welcomed our dog. The business is in a quiet area, not far from the Delaware beaches. It was clean and the pets had different areas to be cared for, at different times of the day. We would feel very comfortable recommending Gravel Hill Pet Wagon to anyone looking for a safe place for their pets to stay. Thanks, guys, for taking such good care of our old girl. We felt like we could relax and enjoy the party, knowing that she was in a good place, with caring people.

I have to be honest we…read morehave utilized the services here occasionally as our normal groomer is always so busy and difficult to schedule at last minute ...perhaps I should taken note of that before I took my dogs back there ... but before we have not been as dissatisfied as this time. We have 2 golden retrievers and our youngest is losing his winter coat... so alot of fur and in need of a good grooming with trim. Please see what we got in photo below!!! Blisters from CLIPPER BURN and now infected. No they arent hotspots they were blisters that opened yesterday. My husband called after services and upon seeing the redness and blisters that formed he was not rude infact he used "disappointed with grooming and clipped too short and we never want him clipped that short again". Today at 8:03 am (the salon opens up at 0800 am) I received callback and it was "chelsea" and she was in rare form, right off the bat ready to let me have it and inform me "umm yes I was the groomer that clipped your dog and my clipper blades weren't hot and vet's misdiagnose this all time it's not clipper burn". Hmmm first red flag dading makes me think not the first time of this complaint. Looked into n reviews today and guess what it's not!!Then I hear a female in the background very caustic and cursing really loud and then i hear laughing. i asked Chelsea who is that swearing and yelling and is it directed to me and did they find this funny? Chelsea unbelievable answered "yeah and she is laughing at you because she knows that vets misdiagnose this all time". I said to Chelsea are you serious realizing at that point I knew I was speaking to a poor representative of this licensed business. So I asked who the owner was and Chelsea quickly responded " that would be my mom, Karen" and proceeded to give me an email address and then proceeded to say "well if he wasn't matted because you neglect your dog bc you dont brush him" , i said neglect my dog are you kidding me? If he had matting that bad then Chelsea, should not have clippered him to his bare skin if you couldnt see it. You should have taken more time and used scissors and products and again take time just don't clipper him directly to his skin. chelsea ended the conversation and said "well if your not happy, dont come back, we dont want your business". Umm do they really think I would take my dogs back there? Are you serious !! I emailed the owner "karen" and proceeded to go to the scheduled vet appointment. It was clipper burn and infact vet actually said it is one of the worst he has seen (a vet for years) and stated they clipper for surgeries and even they have not ever seen it as bad and he stated exactly what i said to chelsea if Teddie was "so matted" you don't clipper to skin. He said it is additionally infected directly at the level of skin. Shot, oral abx and topical ointment, and we went on our way. I still have not heard any response from owner! Poor business!!

I never had a problem with Jim and Mary but the new owners refused to do business with us. It was to much work to look up the vaccination records that the previous owner had on our pets for which these owners were once employed. Note that all the great reviews listed were before the new owners took over earlier in 2023.
