Emily, our groomer, was friendly, and we specifically discussed wanting only minimal trimming to help our puppy get used to the grooming process. Emily agreed, explaining that puppy cuts are typically light and focus on the face, feet, and sanitary areas. At pickup about 1.5 hours later, I heard a dog yelping before I even opened the door. When I walked in, I was horrified to see our puppy cornered against a wall on a grooming table, yelping repeatedly in distress. An older woman was holding large metal scissors near her face. Before she even realized I was there, she grabbed my puppy's face, shook her head, and yelled at her to "hold still," saying she was going to cut her eyes if she didn't stop. Our puppy was not secured with a collar, leash, or harness. She was clearly terrified. I immediately asked for my dog and said, "Please stop -- I will take her unfinished. This is too much." Only then did they turn toward me, and I got a full view of her haircut. They had cut her far shorter than we discussed, unevenly, and all over -- completely against what we requested. Even after I spoke up, the woman moved back toward her again with the scissors, which felt dangerous and inappropriate. Another employee stepped in front of me, blocking my view, while my puppy continued yelping. I was in shock. I understand that grooming a young puppy can be challenging. Puppies are wiggly. That is exactly why the appointment was supposed to be gentle, minimal, and focused on positive exposure -- not fear, aggression, or restraint by force. At no point is it acceptable to shake a frightened puppy by the face or yell at her. If they felt they couldn't handle grooming a 4-month-old puppy with patience, they should have called me to pick her up. This experience was deeply upsetting, and I am heartbroken over how our puppy was treated. I would not recommend Comfy Pet Grooming to anyone, especially those bringing a puppy for their first grooming.

I don't…read moreknow if it was an off day for them or what, but the hair cuts our dogs got were not their usual good jobs they've done in the past, one looked like they hadn't finished the job. One of our dogs was also bleeding from a tumor the groomer nicked while shaving and seemed traumatized. The reason I'm posting this now is because one of our dogs' hair isn't growing back. We took her to the vet and another groomer and they confirmed that a groomer at this establishment cut her hair way to short for her breed. So even if it was just an accident made by a new groomer or something else, my dog is possibly permanently damaged hair wise on her back. So I feel like it's my duty to warn others just incase this happens to someone else.

We had a special family party in the area, and we didn't feel that we could leave our elderly dog in a kennel, while we traveled to Delaware. I called and spoke with Paul beforehand, and he seemed to be a kind and accommodating person, with a true love of animals. When we arrived at the kennel, Paul and Kyle came out and welcomed us to their business, and more importantly, welcomed our dog. The business is in a quiet area, not far from the Delaware beaches. It was clean and the pets had different areas to be cared for, at different times of the day. We would feel very comfortable recommending Gravel Hill Pet Wagon to anyone looking for a safe place for their pets to stay. Thanks, guys, for taking such good care of our old girl. He was keeping us up at night, clicking around on the hardwood floor. She did a great job, and problem solved! Our dog Cooper (our collie mix) returned today from his first visit and he literally looks like a different dog. A much better looking different dog! Knowing that she probably endured multiple hours of his non-stop singing during the process makes it even more remarkable.
