We've been taking our lab to camp charlie for the past 5+ years and Jamie and the staff have been incredible with our pet while we've been away! They screen all pets for boarding which we love as aggressive and otherwise misbehaved pets are usually not welcome and we appreciate that. I forgot to book my dog's usual kennel for my recent vacation, and had to scramble to find a place for him to stay. Camp Charlie was on a list of suggestions from my vet, so I gave it a try. It's a bit different than the usual kennel - the dogs spend their days hanging out together on several acres of securely fenced land. To stay there, a dog must first be evaluated to see if he has a good temperament with other dogs, and my mild-mannered Aussie had no trouble getting a spot. Each dog has their own private area at night, and when they want a break from the party outside. The grounds are well maintained, and the staff are responsive and helpful (though can be a bit gruff at times). When I dropped my dog off, I forgot to bring his food, and they arranged house food for him at a minimal extra cost. When I picked him up, he spent two days recovering from his vacation! I'd happily leave him there again. read more

I brought my Bernese Mtn dog here around the holiday season. He's a shy guy that has a little separation anxiety. I showed up during their touring hours and took a look at the place. Jamie and his team were very accommodating and laid back. The dogs get to roam around and spend the day outside rather than in a crate, which I love. I truly appreciate that they let me go in the back with my dog to show him the area. After his first 3 night stay, he returned home a tired, happy pup and is not at all traumatized. I only wish I lived a bit closer so I could use their day care services more often. My dog would get so much more exercise and play time. Thank you Camp Charlie team! We just go for the egg hunt party and our experience was great. They used eggs with kibble. Dogs were enjoying themselves finding and eating treats. They got to play with other dogs. The park is a big one but we stood on the right side of it. Staff was really friendly and patient. They were working with dog friendly muffin vendors and with Homeward Pet Adoption. My dog is eight now and we were lucky enough to find Jamie who is owner of Camp Charlie when our Samoyed was just a puppy. He loves going there so much! I think our dog loves Jamie and the people at Camp Charlie almost as much as my husband and me. I never worry about him when we leave him there. I know he will be taken care of like he was one of Jamie's own dogs. We also enjoy the Camp Charlie dog park almost daily. Great place for well-mannered dogs! I'm a little embarrassed to admit this, but I think the folks at Camp Charlie may have taken better care of my dog than I do. I'm still not sure she wanted to come home. I was so worried about leaving my dog anywhere - I'd always used petsitters that I knew personally, but a family emergency meant I needed to find an alternative fast. My dog is a 9 1/2 year old lab who still thinks she's a puppy. She has ACL problems so if she is too active, she starts to limp. She also has hip problems, so if she is too sedentary she stiffens up and limps. Tricky combo, and I was beside myself. I told them all this at Camp Charlie, and they seemed unfazed. Along with her food, I dropped off her morning treats, her evening treats, her joint health supplements, her prescription meds, and her pill pockets. Once again, unfazed. I was gone a week, checking my phone everyday for the dreaded message that never came. I went straight from the airport to pick her up, to find her happy, healthy, not limping, and in no hurry to go home. Well. You can't do better than that. I will take her back here without hesitation next time I need to leave without her. read more

My husband and I have taken our two large dogs to Camp Charlie for boarding (but "camp" is absolutely the correct term) three times now. Jamie gave us a tour of his facilities, and it was inspiring to see how he'd converted the house and surrounding pastures into the perfect home-away-from-home for the dogs. From the kennels to the dog-friendly couches in the living area to the outdoor facilities. And there's also the nearby private park w/ river access, which is great because our dogs are avid swimmers. From meeting them, it's obvious that Jamie and his assistant are dog-lovers. They paid a lot of attention to one of our pups when she had cut the pad of one of her paws (a pre-existing condition), and are always very careful about food and treats. I love that when picking up they're sure to tell us whether the dogs have had breakfast or dinner yet that day, so we know whether they'll need to be fed when we get home. It's small touches like that, which we haven't seen from other places, that really make the difference. We're cautious about the well-being of our dogs, and we have absolutely no hesitation about leaving them at Camp Charlie. All in all, I'm certain our dogs live better at Camp Charlie than they do when they're at home. We'll continue to board our dogs here, no doubt about it. read more

These folks have lost a daycare dog that then got run over. And lthis fall they lost an overnight elderly retriever for 3 days before he found his way back. This is a 2 part business - the kennel / daycare and a membership only off leash park. The off leash park is great. You take your dog yourself and the facility is wonderful. Fields and beach and great dog fun. It isn't cheap but if you can afford it and need a nice place to run your dog, this is great. The kennel and daycare are not adequate. The facility is new and very nice. The staff is inattentive and has high turnover. They may mean well but don't provide the safety and security and attention most people want when they put their dog somewhere in someone elses care. Check your dog in someplace else. read more

Update four years later. It's still the best place ever. As my dog ages they are still the best place for him. We drive forty minutes each way to drop him off, can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

Jamie is arrogant to say the least. I showed up and there was dried poop all over the gravel area where they were doing the meet and greet. I mentioned it to the staff but the woman ignored me. I was told the dogs were never kenneled but they kennel them "in their boarding area" when they think you will be coming. Jamie stated it was because it was too hard with so many dogs to bring yours out. Maybe its because he only has 2 people working at a time and they don't keep your leashes so it would make it harder. When I asked about a dog that had been killed there - Jamie told me it was 7 yrs ago and that he ran out into the road when someone else was picking up their dog. Gee maybe you were careless and shouldn't blame the dog. When asked about one of the low fences, the reply was that is why we have you sign a release. I would skip this place until they figure out what true care for dogs are and that the customer has a right to question and not get flippant answers. read more
