A small lake, no large motorized boats are allowed, so it is quiet and peaceful. In fact, the greatest disturbances tend to be other campers who insist on playing their music loudly. Thankfully, there is usually a good amount of space between sites, and most people respect the quiet hours. While this campground is a long way away from where I live, it is definitely worth the drive. If you are interested in fall camping, I can't even being to describe how beautiful it is to wake up in the morning to see the lake surrounded by a riot of colors.

Located close to Indian Lake, the Lewey Lake Campground has multiple entrances off of Route 30N with the main campground the furthest south and what I have labeled on the Yelp map. Keep in mind that the address does not come up properly on Google Maps or Bing maps so look at the Yelp placement for more accuracy. We were at the furthest north campsites which are pretty isolated from everyone else. The sites our group stayed at were situated right next to a stream which was great for sleeping. You couldn't hear anyone around you and even with the goings on at our lower campsite we couldn't hear them at all. There only outhouses at this location of the campground but it is a short drive to the main sites that have real bathrooms and showers along with a nice, simple beach. Despite how close it is to Route 30N, I definitely felt isolated in a good way and would highly recommend staying there for people looking for some interesting camping with reasonably convenient location.

My partner and I camped at site 32 last year and it was amazing. It took a while for us to row out…read morethere in our inflatable row boat - probably two hours - but you can rent a canoe at the ranger station which would get you out there in maybe an hour or hour and a half. It's a beautiful little private island with a pit toilet and fire pit with picnic tables. This year we spent one night at site 26, which was a little too close to other rowdier sites, and one night at 39, which was beautiful and secluded. If you're thinking about camping here but don't have a boat, rent a canoe! It's a nice way to get out to the islands and work up a sweat so you're ready to swim by the time you get to your site. Some words of advice: make sure you text anyone you need to while you're in Speculator or Indian Lake because if you need to get a hold of someone while you're camping you have to row back to shore, which could take hours if your site is further up the lake, then drive into town to get service; bring a roll of toilet paper with you if you don't want to use the cheapo single ply the whole time you're there; and lastly, really look at the map to make sure you know what you're getting into in terms of the trek out to your site! 32 is far enough that it feels remote but not so far you can't canoe there. Much further north and you're looking at hours of paddling. All in all a great spot to get away.

Indian Lake Islands Campgrounds entrance is at the southwestern edge of Indian Lake. All of the 55…read morecampsites are only accessible by boat. Some are located on islands, some on the shore along the lake. They're all extremely private but very primitive, a fire ring, picnic table and outhouse . There's also quite a few picnic areas if you're just going for the day. The staff at the campgrounds office are all extremely friendly and helpful, ready to answer any questions you might have. The lake is beautiful, with opportunities to get out and hike up a mountain or to a waterfall. If you're going to camp you need to bring all of your supplies with you, including drinking water. There are shower facilities that you can access at Lewey Lake Campground, just across the road from the Indian Lake access.

Apparently, they have multiple campgrounds with the same and/or very similar names. Best to use Wells address or find the Alpine Inn which is a few miles down the road. Otherwise, a very nice and clean campground. Staff has always been kind with giving directions and helping out. Kids and dogs have fun in the river! A bit far for me to travel from Westchester, but worth it when other campgrounds are booked.

Then with so many State campgrounds reservations only or closed, we were looking at the side of the road. Found this place on the internet. It was dark when we arrived and the office was closed, but the owner could not have been nicer. Note it is cash only, but the site was level and the price for a full hook-up was only $32. Very relaxing and quiet and strong Wi-fi even at the edge of the park. I would plan to stay here again if the opportunity arose.

Situated on Route 30/8 in the Towns of Lake Pleasant and Speculator (gosh I hope I got this right). A community organized open space for all to enjoy a picnic, leg stretch, swim, or in our case escape the harsh lake winds experienced one day while kayaking. No matter the activities, the Park is dedicated to the World War I veteran known as "The Fighting Marine" (Gene Tunney), who after Boxing during the war in France later faced off with the great Jack Dempsey and "The Fighting Marine" took the belt from Dempsey (1926). Then in a rematch Tunney held steadfast to the Belt (1927). Why? His post-war training camp was right here in the Town of Speculator! A Wartime Marine chum encouraged him to set up Camp here in Town. Following the two successful bouts with Dempsey and others, the Camp became known as the "Camp for Would-Be Champions" sporting other titled boxers. With the help of other family members, they are there to help you with anything and arrange wonderful events thruout the season. I'm not too crazy about beer, and what I'd seen from the menu seemed like mostly burgers which I also find boring. Was very happy and surprised on my first visit to find they have creative and delicious cocktails, which are more up my alley when it comes to drinks. Also this first time, I got the truffle pizza, which was *phenomenal*!! Since then, have been back 3 more times, once for a drink and to try the cucumber salad, which also sounded incredible, to also compare to a similar one I make at home. Loved it!!!
