For decades, it was an unincorporated part of the county with no local government or emergency services. It was a free, barren, no-man's land. It was a semblance of the Wild West and, we liked it that way! Nowadays, I believed it's been annexed by the Port of Freeport. Bryan Beach is a lot of different things. It's possibly the ugliest beach in the world. Definitely, the ugliest in Texas. At the same time, it can reveal great beauty (mostly when the lights are off). It's a quickly eroding coastline, barely able to drive on or pitch a tent on. Fishing is great. Of course, you might want to catch and release as the river mouth passes a terrifying amount of pesticides, fertilizers, and God knows what else. Rip currents and an abundance of sharks make swimming dangerous. There's also sometimes dangerous people there. It's really a blank canvas. You can make it whatever you want. I've had incredible beach parties there in the past. Huge bonfires, cooking up dinner, camping out, insane amounts of alcohol.... With the right group, you can have the time of your life there. Maybe it's a weird portal to another dimension. Who knows? Bryan Beach is what you make it.

It is a real gem tucked away on the back roads of Brazoria County. The beautiful great room includes a reception area with a fireplace surrounded by ample seating, a piano and a lovely vaulted ceiling. Attached is a Texas style dining room that can easily be dressed up for a formal event or dressed down for more casual. The Lodge also offers guest rooms for extended events, and has a lovely fire pit surrounding by bench seating by the lake closest to the buildings. I am told this cozy retreat books up well in advance and it is easy to see why! I love The Lodge.

We decided on hang gliding for my son's 18th!…read more Easy to find. The airport is just off of I-69 in Wharton. Just plop the airport into your nav and you're there. Upon arriving at 3pm on a Sunday, there were a few hang gliders preparing to fly. We watched them take off, sore, and land. We met "Bart", the flyer that would be flying with my son. Super nice, personable guy! My son is autistic. I think they were a little apprehensive about taking him up. Even still, I appreciate the way they handled it. Cleary communicated their concern and what needed to happen in order to ensure everyone's safety. I felt completely at ease putting my most precious thing in there hands. Watching him take off was awesome! He seemed to really enjoy it! A few negatives... It took 20 to 30 minutes to check out. I don't really understand why. Everyone just seemed to lull about between take offs. And they charge $40 for pictures. The camera takes a snap every 10 seconds I believe so you get a lot of pictures. However the pictures are all very similar. They're given to you on one of those old timey memory cards that look like oversized SIM cards. Not cool. Overall we really enjoyed the experience.

This was my first time out to the West Brazos golf center. A 9-hole course, that's pretty well…read morekept. They were working on parts of the course that nobody was hitting on as we were playing. Tea boxes, fairways, greens were all green. One common issue we saw is that nobody was filling divots, so you did see quite a bit of dirt around tee off. You'd also catch a rash of divots around certain parts of each hole. Well yes, you can say that's a groundskeeper issue, that's also a golfer issue. Fill your holes. We were the first ones to tee off on a Sunday at 8:00. A.m.. it was a beautiful morning. We had a nice leisurely first nine, we ended up playing a second round and it got a bit busier towards noon. It's a smaller course so don't expect PGA quality anything. You will see a lot of cows and pastures alongside the course, just chilling. It's always nice to see wildlife. There will be ducks roaming around on the course, so be careful of our feathered friends. Of the nine holes, at least 7 are par 3. There are a couple that let you get out into driver territory. If you're expecting to work on your long game, this is not the course for you. There are only two holes that put you in driver territory, with a third if you tee up from the long box (blue). This is a great course. If you're looking for chip, fairway, or putting. And the grip on the greens changes considerably between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. the morning dew will get you. The staff were chill. They they kept everything pretty clean in the clubhouse and they worked out on the course throughout the day as well. Plenty of carts. They do have a driving range, but I didn't get a chance to make use of it. It's definitely out there. Not a tourist destination golf course, but if you're in the area or just interested in trying something different, it's worth a go. $45 gets you two rounds.
