I'm curious where the dollars go for maintenance. During the night, the cabin door blew open from the wind (around 2 AM). The boys were dramatic about it, but I thought, "this is an easy/cheap fix." That said, if it's a stormy night, prepare yourself for spotty sleep (especially on the 2" foam pads). PRO TIP: double up the pads if you can. Also, there was no cycle on the heater (just on/off) and it ran all night. I woke up in the middle of the night with my mouth/tongue severely dried out like I was lost/adrift at sea. Kids did enjoy the activities - I think archery won the day(s). Fire-starting was also a hit. The camp guides did a pretty decent job incorporating learning and doing their best to keep kids engaged. Their personalities were spirited/fun and I especially enjoyed their effort with skit night (some drama majors I think). Overall the meals could be improved, some basic cabin upgrades, and perhaps a new Director (ponytailed milk toast dude who had a kind of, "don't have time for you" vibe). read more

Came here for Diabetes camp with ADA American diabetes association. a lot of activities and great staff to help facilitate. Staff have very good attitudes and are upbeat and helpful! Good Sleeping quarters. They have a camp for summer and a camp with heated rooms for winter. Campgrounds are clean. The food prepared was tasty and with a lot of choices. Definitely an awesome place to spend time at !! read more

My children will not be returning to to Camp Sealth. They both attended a week of Classic Camp in 2022 and were sadly disappointed. The website promises "campers will get to experience all activities that are open to their age group" and lists over 15 activities including swimming, archery, outdoor cooking, and multiple types of boating. Both my children reported doing less than half the listed activities. My 12 year old got just one hour of water time the entire week. My 10 year old did only one craft (a collage of pictures cut out of a magazine). Neither of them did any outdoor cooking or boating. They both reported that they did one or two activities each day and spent the remaining time having lots of "cabin time". In addition to a lack of activities, my 12 year old also complained that food ran out at mealtimes and my 10 year old was put in a cabin with mostly 12 and 13 year olds. I'd heard such great things about Camp Sealth and I know it's a Seattle tradition, but I'll be looking at different camps next year. read more

Unfortunately, based on our experience this year, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this camp. Despite our child having a rather mediocre experience last year, we were swayed by their fond memories of the fun they had on the boat ride to and from the camp, leading us to give it another chance. However, the quality of the experience and the competence of the counselors your child is paired with remain subject to chance, and our personal encounter with Camp Sealth has been deeply unsatisfactory. This summer's experience at Camp Sealth was unfortunately overshadowed by negative aspects arising from the conduct of specific counselors and the prevailing clique-like atmosphere they let go unchecked among the campers. It's clear that the camp is grappling with challenges in both attracting and retaining high-quality counseling staff. Given what I suspect is a limited applicant pool, it's evident that factors such as the motivation of individuals to become camp counselors, their initial skill sets, and levels of maturity can't be considered if you can't be selective. I must wonder if the camp would choose to remove or reassign a counselor or turn down a returning counselor if there were concerns about their skill set, maturity, and honesty. My impression is that the camp might not be in a position to address issues with problematic counselors, given the potential shortage of staff resources for corrective measures or reassignments. Additionally, I'm uncertain about the sufficiency of training provided before camps start to impart necessary leadership, expectations, and behavior management skills, as well as guidance on how counselors can appropriately report concerns about their peers' behavior. The oversight of counselors appears to be limited and distant. I am also concerned about the apparent lack of follow-through by administrative staff in implementing their own written policies and statements. Throughout the camp session, there were multiple instances where a counselor demonstrated gaslighting behavior towards campers and engaged in the propagation of gossip and false rumors, encompassing both counselors and campers. Certain counselors exhibited a concerning lack of understanding in conducting themselves appropriately and fulfilling the presumed fundamental responsibilities necessary for fostering a positive team atmosphere. Furthermore, there were occurrences where counselors failed to address instances of unkind behavior exhibited by groups of friends attending camp together, targeting other campers. Regrettably, rather than confronting this hurtful behavior, counselors seemed prone to attributing blame to those who reacted to the cruelty. In light of these significant concerns and the unpredictable nature of counselors assignment, our experiences with the camp personnel have left us deeply dissatisfied and concerned about the overall quality of the summer camp. read more

My little one went and it was pretty much exactly as I'd hoped it would be. Fantastic. The counsellors are the same goofy and `probably seem like gods to the young ones' types that seem to always accept that job, the management/permanent staff are friendly and overworked, and the grounds are in good but 'could use a little love' shape. The check in where you drop them off was super fun- thanks to the costumed crazy ship captain and the 'like a well oiled machine' staff helping out and the return was just as easy. Still, the fun she had wasn't a bit run down, or overworked. She loved it and promptly told me she'd want to go back every year, even though this was her first sleepaway camp experience. We got in through a discounted 'mini week' for new campers, and it was a smart move, because we're sold and will be back every year now, at full price, and happy about it. read more

I do not have kids, technically I have 150 kids. You figure it out. And if I were their parent and thinking about the future which a few actually seem to do, I would be thinking about overnight camp. The summer months are not far away. And only the best overnight camp on the West coast for their little darlings, Camp Sealth. I know I cannot be the only veteran of the camp on here, I am only reminding you of it. The cabins, the horses, the meadow, the camp fires, hikes along the beach, the tippy canoe test, the songs... Oh the memories! Is it too much? Well, it is all still there for the taking. Camp Fire Boys and Girls has done an excellent job keeping up the camp and doing renovations. Keep in mind they also have camp sessions for people with special needs and dietary restrictions. Make your kid a summer camp champ and take a week off for goodness sakes! read more

Went there as a little girl and teen in the 70'sand my daughter went also in the 90's! It is run my Camp Fire Girls - sorry, I cant pull my self around to calling it and Boys. But all of the same traditions that were done when I was there in the 70's was still in place when my oldest daughter went there in the 90's. I have talked to friends who's children have gone there since and it still is the same. I have read articles about how families can rent cabins out throughout the year (less summers) for reunions, or just get always. I would love to do that with both my girls now. That would be such a run now memory lane for all of us!! Beautiful venue, beaches and history. We just returned from Fall Family Camp, and it was a fantastic weekend! Although the facilities are simple (it is a camp, not the Westin), they were clean and welcoming. The property, indoors and out, is well kept, with lots of shelters and trails. The hikes through the forest were enchanting! The camp offered several activities, from arts & crafts, to extreme hikes, to archery. The staff was super-friendly, and especially engaging with the kids. We saw seals playing in the water, and deer wandering the camp. We can't wait to return! read more

Our cabin with 13 children had rat feces all over the kitchen. It took over an hour to clean down. One of the bathroom toilets had black particles all over it. It was wiped down by us each day, something was falling out of vents. The worst part, realizing one of the children's rooms that had a foul smell had a dead mouse in it. Also, saw raccoons climbing into other cabin's windows and into front doors of cabins. read more

If you care about cleanliness or food, find a different facility for your large group! Beautiful location. Convenient to Seattle. Unhappy staff. Low quality food. Facilities are unloved and uncleanly. Our group (of around 100) rented Camp Sealth for a weekend in October. I wonder why in this recession they are unable to hire folks who want to work? This place has bad energy, unhappy staff, and disgusting food. For our $12/person dinner we were served a green salad, very over cooked diced carrots, macaroni doused in processed cheese, and corn dogs. (I kid you not!) Please pass the lettuce & over cooked carrots because I'll pass on the Corn Dog! I would increase my rating if only they would let our group use their commercial kitchen and do our own cooking! The food greatly 'sours' the entire experience . . . Hoping to find a nicer place for our group for next fall! read more

We rented parts of this place for a semi-private festival along with many other people- the staff seemed pretty overwhelmed with only about 80 people on the grounds. Who were mostly in their own tents, hardly used the facilities, this was in October. There was about three people working in an information/office position and all at odd hours, and there was just general unease. Everything was clean and working but the staff kind of seemed reluctant to do their job. The event I'm referring to took place about seven years ago. There is high turn over on summer help on Vashon, but this happened in October. I know it's still in business because every year some kids from Seattle come over and some kids from Vashon go to Waskowitz in the summer. I wouldn't know that anything has changed, but I suppose you can take the date of my last venture however you will. read more

If you love camp then you will love Camp Sealth. The place is magical and really gets you into the camp spirit. It is a great place to send your kids. We just returned from school camp trip at Camp Sealth. The staff were wonderful. Gracious, responsive and engaging. The leader of the camp, Megan, I believe, was super even tempered. We had problems with the plumbing that fed into the Parent coffee station, but you would hardly know that it was going on; coffee flow did not stop. They just set up carafes in front of the existing station while it was being serviced. She seemed not at all bothered by the hassle. Our group leader, Hector must be a kid whisperer. He never seemed bothered by the rowdiness of our group. In fact, he attended to the squeaky wheels with compassion and individual attention all the while feeding them with lots of science and folk lore and outdoor adventure games. I have spent several weekends at Camp Sealth in September and February and have also visited the camp in June and August. The food was fine. It is a great place and there is nothing as wonderful as going to Camp Fire camp in the summer. read more
