I like the fun and welcoming atmosphere at YMCA Camp Seymour. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel right at home. The counselors are enthusiastic, supportive, and clearly care about creating a safe and memorable experience for every camper. My child came home each day full of stories about the outdoor adventures, new friends, and exciting activities like archery, canoeing, and campfire songs. One of the things I appreciate most is how the camp helps kids grow in independence. Away from their usual routines and screens, campers learn to make decisions for themselves--whether it's choosing a new activity to try, solving small challenges, or managing their time during the day. That sense of ownership builds confidence and resilience. Camp Seymour also does a great job of encouraging goal setting. Each camper is guided to set personal goals--big or small--and work toward achieving them. It might be something like trying the climbing wall for the first time or learning how to paddle a canoe. These goals help kids feel accomplished and proud of what they can do, especially when they step out of their comfort zones and succeed. The camp's values of community, respect, and personal growth really shine through in everything they do. This was my daughter's first year at Camp Seymour. She is 9-years-old. She had THE BEST time ever! I have genuinely never seen her so happy coming back from something. She was excited when we signed up, but a little apprehensive when I dropped her off. I was nervous that she was a bit too young, but this was definitely not the case. She came home wanting to go right back, already talking about next summer, and how she wants to work with her when she is older. The staff are wonderful, they have great food, including a vegetarian option for her (so important), and it's a beautiful place. Definitely recommend! read more

This camp is so expensive! I work a side job the entire summer just to send may kids to this camp. I've got to say that it is so worth it- every single penny! My kids talk about the past summer sessions all year long while looking forward to the upcoming sessions- including the very short winter weekend. I don't even know where to start with the activities they do and how they have time- fishing, kayaking, hiking, sleeping under the stars, campfires, archery all rounded off with a pancake breakfast for the entire family upon pickup where they also have a showcase of a few things they worked on. I went to Camp Seymour as a child and I've gone as a teacher for sixth grade camp for six years. My own children are on their second year is summer camp there. I can't say enough about the quality of the staff, accommodations, activities, and even the options for foods. Also, they are a completely nut-free camp. I have seen staffers jump into action in medical emergencies and I am very impressed. Our family will continue to be a Camp Seymour family for generations. read more

The staff are talented. They are very good interpreters and provide a fun atmosphere for the guests. The cabins are very nice. Clean and provide great lodging for kids, Heron unit. The bunks should have ladders. The activities available are great. Canoeing, archery, climbing wall, science based educational classes on marine and farm animals. They do need to include the local PNW species as that is not the predominant focus, except regarding the marine exhibit. The snakes and lizards from other regions are fun for the kids though. They should consider hiking tours showing the different types of foliage and tree species. Dendrology info would be valuable. A boardwalk should be made to allow for closer view of landscape along coastline. I understand the ecology apprehension of wanting to incorporate this however it would not create any negative effects on the environment, rather it would better reinforce the need for preservation. The message they are teaching the youth is priceless. The way they explain recycling, reuse and waste management is great. They do have another test platform they are incorporating which is to reclaim the black and grey water that is created from both natural and human centered practices. What is very much needed is to market this more so that people can better understand the capabilities of filtering our resources. The topic of a filtering process would not be difficult to discuss with the younger audience. Last but not least is the food. Ugh. If comparing it to what our public schools feed our kids then it is a 5 star restaurant (based on kids feedback). The salad bar is worthy, but you need to work on the food and coffee.
